Fleetwood Mac – Gold Dust Woman
Stevie Nicks’ rueful portrayal of a helpless addict digging her grave with a “silver spoon” became autobiographical only in retrospect; at the time she was still only an occasional cocaine user, still intoxicated by “the ritual of it, the little bottle, the fabulous velvet bags… never thinking in a million years it would overtake me.”

And yet, I don't believe it is an anti-cocaine song. Sure, now she says it is, but at the time it was written she explained it in very different terms. Just because there's a silver spoon and some dust don't make it cocaine, Stevie!

Stevie has also said it's about gold-digging women who ignore her and Christine and head straight to the men in the band.

What I loved best was that Blonde on Blonde interview with Courtney where Courtney kept telling Stevie what the meaning of the song was and in the end Stevie just gave up trying to explain and said she didn't remember what the song was about. That was a first. I'd never heard anyone make Stevie so exhausted she couldn't talk anymore before. Courtney was so crazy that even Stevie had to throw down the white flag.
