Ok, as I mentioned in a previous post a while back, I've been working on a little project...I'm making my own Stevie box set... "Sea Of Love" ... of course mine is going to be about a million discs long and includes solo/FM & collabs...anyway, it's in a couple of 'parts', the first being all the FM album tracks (Stevie's, I mean - I call it "Silhouette Of A Dream") The second part, "The Edge Of It" includes all of Stevie's non album tracks, some demos, alt versions, remixes, edits, live stuff, etc... that's what I'm working on now...anyway, just thought I'd share some of it with you kind folks...of course, alot of it is commercially available, so I can't share that stuff, but as I go along (I'm doing it more or less chronologically ... of course, the demos may be a bit skewed, but they are approx. where they belong...) So, without further adieu...here's the first batch of postings...hope you enjoy!
I've Loved And I've Lost (from an '81 ('87?) interview, but I thought it a good way to start the set, anyway, being as Stevie claims it is the first song she ever wrote..)

Well I was very curious about this 1981 version of 'I've Loved and I've Lost' so I bit the bullet and downloaded the file. After following all the prompts from Sendspace, downloading whatever spyware they favor, and running that silly 'Dell Jukebox' thing, it turns out that this is the same 'I've Loved..' that most of us have heard from a 1987 (not 1981) 'Tango In The Night' promo. This spot didn't even have Lindsey on it, it was really a promo for the 'Shake The Cage' tour IIRC and an intro to Rick and Billy. Whatever.
You can really tell it's not from 1981 just by her voice. Her speaking voice is much MUCH deeper than the speaking voice she affected in 1981, and you can 'hear' that mysterious, stuffy nasal click which is now apparent when you listen to such modern-day songs like 'Destiny Rules'. I think, this promo spot also featured a complete demo of a song called 'Are You Mine?' with Stevie and Billy, with Sharon and possibly Lori on ladies' vocal. I would break out my old interview cassettes to verify this, but all are lost...

wow! I'm sorry you had to go through all that! My bad about the date...that is the date I had for it ... I thought that Billy and Stevie Are You Mine was an outtake from the RAL sessions (I think i remember hearing or reading that they had done it long before his tenure with FM)

Right you are, wildheart. A version of 'Are You Mine' was recorded during sessions for RAL with Billy Burnette. I don't recall it publicly coming to light though, until the promo for the 'Tango' tour which aired on (Westwood One? Timothy White's Rock Stars?). It's Billy-ness aside, Stevie does a lovely vocal full of RAL/Tango sessions-era vulnerability and vibrato (think along the lines of 'I Sing For The Things' or 'When I See You Again').

Pete, I believe it's from an on-air interview for MTV Stevie did with Mark Goodman in 1983. It was recorded in August, during the month break in the tour. They played parts of the Landover gig from early July (usually those things are filmed for marketing, just like this).

I'll listen to it again when I get home from office. I'm so sure that it's from one of the '87 promos, because I had listened to that interview quite a few times that year. Unless....unless the interview I had from '87 was spliced with '83 MTV stuff and edited and padded in some way to make it seem like it was all part of the same. That could be! (Oh, I hate being tricked and manipulated by the media)

I definitely remember the Timothy White's Rock Stars on radio, which is where we heard "Are You Mine" with Stevie & Billy (the only other "Are You Mine" I knew was the ad hoc performance of it for Jim Ladd back in 1983) as well as the wonderful little "Everywhere" demo. In fact, we could stand to hear the whole demo instead of just the clip, you stupid Timothy White. (RIP)

Mediafire seems to be the safest, and they keep the files active. It's so discouraging to see so many expired links in this forum. I'm curious why so many of you chose to use those other sites instead of Mediafire.

Just out of curiosity, is it just the way it downloaded or is "I've Loved and I've Lost" full of static? This particular clip was used in a radio show interview. The clip I have (which is the same as the one posted only it's just her singing) I edited out of a radio show. Don't ask which one, I have over 100 different radio shows on LP and CD from 1976 on, so I have no clue which one I pulled it from. LOL!!

Which is what I was maintaining, too. Only, the radio show I heard was from '87. Taped it myself, too. The sequence where she sings part of 'I've Loved...' does seem a bit more static-y, even in my long ago memories of '87 I'm thinking that I can still 'hear' it back then. So maybe the '83 MTV stuff with Mark Goodman (which David mentioned) was indeed snipped and layered into the '87 program and pawned off as whole. Because old '83 cable-tv stuff IS static-y, they must have used cheap video tape back then, or something. Just look at any youtube stuff from MTV from that period.

Hmm...it's not the best quality, but it wasn't full of static ... I'm not sure why that happened? I will dl it and see how it comes?
I've never had a problem with sendspace before, and i like the way it uploads quickly...that's why I use it...I have had trouble with mediafire in the past, and I hate rapid share, and i'm not crazy about yousendit...

Yeah, I've just been collecting Stevie since around the time of Tusk...at one point when cds first came out, I sent all my vinyl stuff (I mean demos, remixes etc) out to this guy I had found in Goldmine and he converted it all for me...and then, with the advent of the internet, of course, like everyone else here, I've added to it...I just finally, a couple of months ago, decided to get everything in some semblance of order, so that's what I've been working on, and thought I'd share some of the stuff... glad you like it!

It's so very nice of you to share, Michael. I haven't downloaded any of these yet. I guess the mention of spyware scared me off. Was that just a joke, or does that site actually put spyware in the files? How is the sound quality of your copy of Three Birds Of Rhiannon? The audio on that demo is usually not very good and I already have a copy, so I'm wondering if it would be worth downloading again if your copy is better. Maybe someone who has already downloaded it can give their opinion. Thanks again for your generosity!!
For anyone who has problems with MediaFire, there are some tricks to using it. I might be able to help out if you tell me what problems you are having with it.

Blackroses, I don't know if they were joking or not, but I have downloaded a bunch of stuff from sendspace and never experienced any spyware problems or anything. I never have to install anything to download them either. You should be fine using it. Although, having said that, I am not exactly a computing genius, so I can only say that, from my personal experience, downloading from sendspace is safe. And, just while I'm here, often when I'm uploading to mediafire, it finishes, but instead of doing the verifying thing, it comes up with an error message. Do you have any ideas on how I can fix this? It's extremely frustrating.

Hi Blackroses...First of all, you're welcome...I enjoy sharing when I have the time to do it..secondly, I've not had any problems with spyware from up or downloading from sendspace, at all...
As to 3 Birds...I find the sound is pretty good for a boot from that time period...I mean it's not pristine, but it's 'ipodable' (in my opinion) ... That's sort of how I test them...if I can play it and have it sound ok alongside released songs and such, I'm happy...I am by far not a tech wiz or anything like that, so it's really just if there isn't an over abundance of static, echo or distortion, the sound is decent, and the costumes are ok, I can dance to it :D ... Hope that answers some of your questions!

Thanks for the info. I feel a little better about the spyware issue now. :D As for MediaFire, I can understand why you'd be frustrated after spending so much time uploading only to have it error out at the end. I'm not sure what the verifying error is. Most of the problems I and others have experienced are at the beginning stages of a large file upload. Do you remember what the error says? Does it happen all the time, or only on certain uploads? The verifying process is somewhat slow anyway. What operating system and anti-virus/firewalls do you have? Are you on dial-up? I will try to figure out what is causing this if you can give me a little more information.

That's good :). It would suck to miss out on all these awesome downloads.
With the mediafire problem, I think it usually just says something along the lines 'there was an error in verifying this file'. It isn't very detailed, and it isn't just one file that it has a problem with, it's all files I have tried recently. The first couple of times I used it it worked really well, and then after a while, it began to come up with error every so often, and then all the time. I think the firewall I have is Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security. I'm not on dial-up, I'm on broadband, which I think what DSL is called here. Thank you for taking the time to reply, and hopefully you can help me out with this!

Thank you for taking the time to reply, and hopefully you can help me out with this! You're very welcome. There are some strange conflicts with the site and some PC security softwares, but it usually occurs at the beginning of an upload and prevents it from starting, then shows an error page like the one you described. I had problems when I was using different security software than I'm using now. The only way around it is to pause protection momentarily until the file starts to upload, then immediately enable protection again. It just needs to get started, and after that it continues to upload fine with firewall/protection on. This is not an ideal method, since it's a bit risky, but it usually works, and it's only momentary. However, I can't see any reason why this would occur after the file is already uploaded, which makes me think something else is going on. Are you uploading into an account? If so, have you checked to make sure the file did not somehow go through?...probably a stupid question, since I'm sure you have. I'll keep working on this and hopefully come up with a solution for you.

Finding these kinds of culprits can be so difficult. If you try it, make sure you know how to do it quickly, then as soon as verification starts, enable your protection immediately again. I'm not familiar with your security software, but you should be able to do this by right clicking on the Trend Micro icon in your system tray, then left clicking "disable" or "pause" in the menu. Enable it again the same way.
I would recommend first trying to disable individual settings. If you have privacy protection, try just disabling that alone first by going into the settings window, then see what happens. Just make sure after you're done uploading that you enable your privacy again. Good luck. ;)
