Circle Dance (w/ Vanessa)
"CIRCLE DANCE!!!"
In another thread earlier this evening, talking about the possiblity of having a professionally-filmed video of the current "Beauty And The Beast" performances, I had also typed out a lament that we'd never get a professionally-filmed "Circle Dance," but omitted it so my post wouldn't be too lengthy.
I'm glad Stevie was reading my mind. ;)
Thanks for the info, Daniel! :xoxo:

well, you guys, it was spectacular.
there will be the gleaming faces of several ledgies all over that dvd...we were seated second row and spent the last half of the show at the stage. stevie is so stunning that close! apparently we were all photogenic enough to be close ;) we overheard some guy asking to be moved closer and he was shot down with, "those seats are very television conscious, we have to be very selective of who sits there." ha! sexy bitches only.
rhiannon was the killer of the night....she looked FABULOUS. top hot, thin scarf around the next, some fancy new bling, wind blowing the chiffon....god damn she was working the chiffon. think of that picture of her adjusting the top hat in front of the big make-up mirror from a 70's issue of people mag (i have no energy to find it right now)....that was the look...just stunning.
vanessa carlton was cute...no big deal though. i think at one point stevie patted her on the butt as she walked off...funny stuff.
i can't wait to hear how the final sound comes out! whew...i'm exhausted.

Okay... Those songs with the orchestra.. THAT'S what I want to see!! I was wondering last night if she'd use an orchestra for Beauty & The Beast... This sounds so cool... I hope we get every last bit of this setlist on the dvd...
So what did the stage look like? Did she have her usual backdrop playing in the background?
And Circle Dance? I think she does that song really well... I'm looking forward to that too.

Thank you Daniel and Megan! It's great to hear there's a killer Rhiannon. The Orchestra, Circle Dance, an improved Crash Into Me, plus Sara makes this a great new DVD for Stevie. For those that were there, how was How Still My Love? Was Stevie very talkative? Anything special about the wardrobe the band wore or the back up singers? and, finally, was Stevie talkative through the show? Did you spot anyone in the audience?

I'll answer a few questions while I wait to get off the plane - the stage was amazing with huge screens with huge pics of stevie and really cool graphics there were a couple new pics
Hsml was very sexy stevie did a long slow strut at the end twirling the gold shawl
We said several times she was dropping of like it was hot she was feeling sexy last night
Stevie was extremely talkative and hilarious - when the hair and makeup guys would come out she'd go TSS TSS with her two fingers kinds like back off - everytime the hair dude would try to comb her hair she'd back up - very funny
Her funny saying throughout the night was to the tent as she'd walk off for a ward change
rhiannon948

like jaz said, HSML was hot...i love the twirly traipse down the center of the stage. the camera got way up in her face once she had made it to the back of the stage, so that should be supa-fly for dvd.
she also did a lot of this "knee knocking" move - i don't really get that, but the "hike up your skirt shimmy" made up for it
stevie was indeed talkative, but she did say that "none of this is going to make it dvd otherwise the show would be like 5 hours long."
no famous "friends or family" were spotted in the audience as far as we could tell.
Snort. I could say something here, but I'll let Carrie do the honors.
I don't know why... but I'm thinking the same thing! LOLOLOL:lol::lol:
^ditto...stevie and vanessa had their hands all over each other during the hugs as she walked off stage. there were also some pretty intense stares during "the one." hot ;)

Thanks for the reviews. Sometimes at concerts I'm writing notes with a pen and paper during a show, so I can remember everything. It may look silly at the time, but I know how important it will be later. You guys knew that everyone would be waiting for your report online.
I wish everything would make it to the DVD, even the songs I don't want to see (Rock and Roll) and the takes they don't use should be available as extras. Of course, that will never happen, although focused fans would pay double for the opportunity to have that stuff.
I'm just thrilled to know that in a few months I'll be able to have a crystal clear copy of this stuff, with perfect audio. Something to salivate about.

If its anything like the Lindsey one I attended, it'll take about 3 years to show up. I was told that Lindsey was very particular about the songs and taping, In fact, Lindsey did some songs three( 3) times.

Michele, I doubt a few months. Peter Frampton was filmed last year and is just now showing up on PBS (over a year ago). It'll probably be late 2008 or 2009 before we see this. If I am wrong and it shows up in a few months (meaning 3 or less), I'll buy you the DVD

yeah, it was pretty crappy, but the models kindly got out of the way once we starting moving closer towards the front. but they were clearly out of place...one had an annoyed look on her face and was asking, "how long is this going to last?" another was wearing this ridiculous, skin-tight magenta/fuscia body suit with a black belt around her waist. they were originally seated in the center, but got moved....thank god.
it's aggravating....there are sooo many fans that would have killed to be there i'm sure. but i can understand wanting to keep the all too common mulleted stevie fan off camera  who knew that looks were important for tv?
apparently, this is how all of the soundstage shows work - there are a group of models contracted for the season and it there job to show up and look pretty and act enthused for artists they have never heard of. cam said that in talking to one of them, she found out that the model had to look up who stevie was, she had never heard of her :(

I read through the Ledge from time to time but rarely post - but I have to say there were some amazing fans in Chicago last night. I flew in from Seattle and met some wonderful people waiting for hours outside the studio. The reviews written here are great - Rhiannon touched me deeply (tried not to sob) but the other part of the show that I found breathtaking was the COMPLETE SILENCE during Landslide (no screams during "snow . . . covered") and Beauty and the Beast. Without the "I love you's" or any other screaming brought an amazing intensity to those songs. Silence is powerful!

I still get chills when I think about it. When music is playing loudly for hours the silence demands your attention. The richness of her voice came through without distraction. It's just something I've never experienced after almost 40 shows since '83.

Thanks Megan, I am one of those who wanted to go, the green ogre and one eye that I have :), BUT this pisses me off more than ever. They probably had 20 models who took spots that WE (Ledgies etc) could have had. Worse yet, they apparently turned over 100 people away. Now my blood pressure is way way up. Is that what music has become and TV too???

This is probably the reason why tons of fans weren't invited. All that extraneous noise -- like the fan who screamed out "Silver Springs!" right before the song started at The Dance taping -- has to be edited out later. Less work for the editors, later on.

Well, I'll try to answer a few questions and post some of my comments as well. The show was awesome. Fantastic. Really, there are no words to describe. I was with Rhiannon948, Jazzy and Michelle2677. We were all so happy and excited to be there we almost shed a little tear once we were seated and realized how lucky we were. I mean, I was so happy just to be there. Let alone get seated in the third row, RIGHT IN FRONT OF STEVIE. They seemed to be very particular in where they sat people. They told us how to sit: girl, guy, girl, girl. As the show got closer, they moved us up a row. I was on the aisle and they pushed the chairs together, which kind of closed off the first and second rows from the rest. I ended up sitting next to one of the models. I played dumb because I had heard she was a model, but I wanted to see what she had to say.
At first, she told me that she was on a email list with Soundstage and I asked her some info so that I could get in on the action. Then she admitted that she was booked through her agency as a model and was booked for the whole season through Soundstage - so I don't think it was a Stevie thing, despite someone's comment about Lindsey not doing that. Anyway, she told me that she didn't know who Stevie was but looked her up the day before. She told me she was enjoying the show and really liked her. She was kind of tall and was blocking my view at first and I asked her if I could sneak in front of her and she said sure. I then went up to the stage after about the fourth song and that's where I stayed the whole night. Right in front of Stevie. The other models seemed a little bitchy but she was really nice and let all four of us up. So, we must have met the the criteria for being pretty enough!
We should be on the DVD for sure. I can't wait to see it. Stevie still did the Edgewalk, which I'm surprised about, but it was cool and relaxed.
As far as Edgewalk's previous post that 300 of the seats were reserved for friends and family, I did not see anyone recognizable in the audience. They seemed like fans to me (except the models) so I'm not sure that was the case. I also didn't hear anything about the overbooking, so I'm not sure about that. They had a lot of seats marked "reserved" when we got there, but they began filling them in and we actually sat in seats that were marked "reserved". A lot of the crowd seemed older and somewhat subdued. Not us, we followed the "rules" and screamed, danced, clapped, and sang our asses off. By the end of four hours, my feet were ready to fall off from the heels I was wearing.
The show itself was fantastic. Stevie was stunning. So hot. The Rhiannon outfit was to die for. HSML was very hot. Crash was pretty sensual. I loved it. There were no cameras, phones, or recording devices allowed and they were strict about it. Everyone had to pass through a metal detector and if you had any of that stuff on you, they took it and held it until after the show. So, I doubt there will be any photos or boots released. It was kind of nice to be able to just enjoy the show without having to worry about anything else. And the dvd will be great quality, better than any boot. We'll just have to wait a long while to get it!
So, it was an unforgettable evening and I experienced it with some great friends and had the best time ever! :xoxo:

right. but we all kind of agreed we were slightly relieved that we didn't have to worry about taking pics and all that. every once in awhile it's kinda nice just to relax and actually enjoy the show.

did you happen to be with the girl who got the guitar pick from waddy? she was from pittsburgh, i think.
about stevie singing and the notes she hit. It was VERY difficult to hear her tbh. I mean, there were areas that we could hear her, and you could tell certain things sounded so good. but from where we were it was hard. She did not take dreams up, or sorcerer, which I was a little disappointed about. :( but hey. such is life. Rhiannon was the highlight of my night tbh. she put everything she had into that performance and as megan said....she looked stunning. i mean...there are no words.
best.night.ever.

The taping itself was 4 hours with all the breaks for setup, makeup, and wardrobe changes. Stevie's performance hovered around the 2 hour mark, judging from the set list.

Oh no I thought Circle Dance was dead. Wow 4 covers in one set list. :p
Anyway it sounds like she was at the top of her game. I for one am pumped that I am going to get a pro-shot version of If Anyone Falls, it has always been one of my favorites. Some questions....
1. Did she do anything different to the end of Rhiannon? She has been fooling around with it at the last few shows shes done.
2. Did she have some sort of shawl on for Rhiannon or was it the wings?
3. Anything red for Sara?
4. Did the whole band accompany Stevie and Vanessa on "The One"?

Thank you for the extra details and answers Jazz and rhiannon! Welcome SeattleMark, and thank you for your words too. I am SO glad there will not be annoying drunk "I LOVE YOU STEVIE" garbage on the DVD. I'm glad this will be a pristine show (despite the "models"). I'm thrilled for those of you that got to go and seriously represent! I'm glad there were "no VIP friends" there. I'd hate to lose any of the songs she did to cover someone else's ego.

Her performance was definitely longer than 2 hours. Her outfit and set changes did not take up two hours. I would say she played for at least 3 hours, closer to 3 hr. 15 min.

I'll wait for the broadcast and/or DVD...Who cares to hang around in a crowd that features models who may not even have any clue as to who is even playing up on the stage.
When you think about it, doesnt that make it sound as if those powers in charge may assume that Stevie fans are an ugly lot and need to sweeten the visual with the use of models?

Once again, these models were not hired only for the Stevie show. This girl specifically told me that she was hired to attend the ENTIRE 5th season of the Soundstage taping. She was hired by Soundstage, it had nothing to do with Stevie or Stevie's fans. She is going to see Matchbox 20 next, then Earth, Wind and Fire and she couldn't remember who after that. But, it's a good bet that if you watch the Soundstage episodes on TV for season 5, you will see these same people in the front few rows.
Also, she had a friend who was there in a hideous pink outfit. That girl brought her boyfriend, who was tall. They moved them from the second row off to the side so for asthetics purposes (either that or because her outfit was too ugly) and she got pissed and left the show because she didn't want to sit on the side.
The girl I talked to was not dumb, she was very nice and was nice to let us four up front since she admittedly was not a big fan. However, she was still complimentary and said Stevie was amazing, it was a great show and she had a good time. There were a few other bitchy ones that didn't look like they were having fun, but...
Overall, I agree that they should have given the seats to fans. That sucks. But, I wanted to stress that it was not only for the Stevie show, it is apparently something that Soundstage does for all it's shows.

I was there - 2nd row, quite frankly right in front of her microphone :-) I'll post a review later but I'm really tired after the trip back. I talked to Daniel (who runs stevie-nicks.info) last night on the phone so he posted some info about the show on his site.
Undoubtedly the best moment was when Stevie did the Edge Walk. The two models in front row had me come up to first row after realizing that Stevie was shaking hands. They backed up so I had plenty of space to greet Stevie. Although it wasn't my first Edge Walk I still told Stevie "I love you very much. Thank you very much for doing this." She replied "Thank you, I love you too." When she went to shake my hand I put my other hand on top of her two for a better connection. Best part of it, there was a cameraman right smack in my face when I had my exchange with Stevie :-) The girls and my friend who I was with all said that Stevie spent more time with me than anybody else so I'm really hoping I'll be the posterboy on the edgewalk part of Eof17 :-)
The taping was tremendous. Stevie was as witty as usual....when the make-up artists would come on stage Stevie would fake bite and snarl at them. Her and Vanessa had tremendous synergy on stage. They did Circle Dance and The One together twice each. Then Vanessa came out for Rock & Roll. Stevie was obviously having a field day with Vanessa's revealing top. They were pretty goofy together ;-)
And yes, Stevie really had a thrilling look on her face when she sang "hike up your skirt and show me the world." She had that cute Stevie smile on her face ;-)
It was a great, great night....no doubt about it :-)

^EdgeWalk, were you in the second row in a blue shirt? With a girl in an orange shirt? I think that I was right near you. I was at the stage in a black camisole. Overall, I agree that they should have given the seats to fans. That sucks. But, I wanted to stress that it was not only for the Stevie show, it is apparently something that Soundstage does for all it's shows.[/QUOTE]
They did NOt do it at Lindsey's show three years ago. I was there. It was all true blue Stevie and Lindsey fans, since it was sponsored by WTTW and you could buy the tickets. Same thing, had to wait and show ID, BUT there were no models there. I was in front row, blue shirt to the very left of Lindsey (not the guy in blue in the middle). You can see Patty, ME and several true Liddy Buck and Stevie fans and we were not crowded out by Models. This is making me even more crazy than I thought possible to think that a "model" got my seat??

It was a great, great night....no doubt about it :-)
Glad you had a great time, Edge! Thanks for giving us the heads up on the models. When (and if) we see that DVD, I'll be looking in that front row, going "hmm, model or fan?"

^EdgeWalk, were you in the second row in a blue shirt? With a girl in an orange shirt? I think that I was right near you. I was at the stage in a black camisole. If this was you, the girls that let you through to shake hands weren't models, they were actually fans. I was talking with them and they were really nice.:)
Hi, glad to hear you were at the show, too :-)
No, I was in a brown dress shirt. The girl I was with was blonde, shorter, and wearing a light brown dress with boots. I was like 3 people over from her mic on the rightside. But the two girls who let me up were models. We started talking to them and the other models in the front row (on the rightside of the stage) before the show - each said that an email went out to modeling agencies asking if any young models like Stevie Nicks and/or Fleetwood Mac. haha. The two girls that gave me their spots during the Edge Walk were from Chicago though, they were very nice, down-to-earth, and of course pretty ;-) haha

Her performance was definitely longer than 2 hours. Her outfit and set changes did not take up two hours. I would say she played for at least 3 hours, closer to 3 hr. 15 min.
I was going by actual playing time based on the set, which looks like a length Mac would play. But obviously I wasn't there, so I'll take your word for it. ;)

Honestly, I can understand to a degree why those tv people would want people up front that are easy on the eyes, as ridiculous as that sounds, but what really bugs me is that none of those people are fans. Not that you need a room full of Stevie Nicks crazies, surely that wouldn't come across well on tv either, but were those dummies supposed to clap and cheer at the appropriate times also? It's a bit contradictory to ask people to stand up and cheer loudly when you have a bunch of people there that don't even know who Stevie Nicks is.
And it makes it more surprising to me that Stevie did the Edge walk. Old habits die hard I guess.

Were you on the right side of the stage facing the stage or if you were on the stage? I was directly in front of Stevie's mic and the models were to my left. Which would be right side if I was on the stage.

I was on Stevie's right....which means the audience's left side of the stage :-) like 3 people over from the microphone stand in 2nd row
You know how 1st row had a gap of like 4 seats in the middle so there were 4 "2nd row" seats that actually were 1st? I was one of those seats :-)

You were right by us! I was in the aisle seat in the second row. When they closed the gap and put the seats together in the second row, I was sitting right next to the african american model. You must have been close to her then. In the beginning, she was standing in front of me and she was so tall that I was having a hard time seeing. I asked her if I could get in front of her and she said sure. So, that's how I ended up at the stage all night!

Yes, everyone was given the "rules". Stand up, clap, yell, scream, cheer, dance, and sing along. Umm, they couldn't sing along because they didn't even know her. I heard one of them ask another who had done this "job" before how long it usually takes. The girl told her about two hours and she said "Oh, that's not too bad, then". I was like WTF? I would have loved to sit there all night!
On Edit: I was very surprised that she did the Walk. Crazy. A few people up front obviously had no idea what was going on. I guess she wanted that to be a part of the dvd? I was shocked.

Yes, thats a great move, put the tall people (models??) in front so the true Stevie fans can't see the short girl performing. Nice move Joe Thomas and Producers???? Sorry, I gotta get off of this thread..................

This is probably the reason why tons of fans weren't invited. All that extraneous noise -- like the fan who screamed out "Silver Springs!" right before the song started at The Dance taping -- has to be edited out later. Less work for the editors, later on.
i feel like there were plenty of fans there, they just chose to show some discretion and let landslide be a special moment....believe me, every bone in my body was silently screaming during the entire show, but i did not want to be the one idiot that yelped...it just didn't feel right. there was something in the air that felt different from a regular concert, this was particularly intimate.
also, the model thing might be getting blown out of proportion. they were scattered around the front areas, but by no means were they the entire front row. the chicks in front of us were stevie fans, not as crazy as us though. they gave us blank stares when we mentioned the ledge  they were a weird bunch, attractive-ish, 40s, loaded, and couldn't really tell us/remember how they got tickets.

Yeah, from what I could tell, there were only about five models there out of the whole crowd. There was another, but she left. So, it was only a few, it was mostly fans.

So NOW who is complaining about not getting the Australian DVD released? I think we can all agree that doing this was so much better than settling for the orchestral show, squinty eyes and all. Just goes to show you that Mama does have our best interests in mind.
At the same time, it occurred to me that this would be yet another release of rehashed old material. I know I'm dreaming, but I would sooo love to see this packaged with a new collection of songs. After all, it's not too uncommon for artists these days to include a bonus DVD with their new albums in the interest of spurring sales of actual units vs. illegal downloading, e.g., Rufus Wainwright "Want 2," Sheryl Crow "Wildflower," Indigo Girls "All that We Let In," etc. Since Stevie herself has lamented about the futility of releasing new music when it's being downloaded illegally, perhaps this is part of her marketing strategy? Or am I giving Mama too much credit?

while i'm confident that she'll get input on how the final product looks, i would not expect for this to be released under anything but the 'soundstage' name. this is their proprietary deal that would come out w/ a big fat "PBS" on it, not packaged with the latest stevie release (as wonderful as that would be, but that would just mean waiting even longer for the dvd)

Well, I don't think that is necessarily true. FM's "Live in Boston" certainly did not get released under the "Soundstage" moniker, even though it was included in the PBS series. I think it is pretty much up to the deal that Stevie struck with PBS. I would be very, very surprised if Stevie gave up even a single nanogram of control; she probably has retained full rights to release this any way she pleases, much like FM.

That's probably the case, rather then put out a new album... There's no return now-a-days on putting out new music unless you are at the top of the charts. The artist basically foots the bill when putting an album out with advances from the record.co., which the record co. needs to recoup via sales, and if the sales aren't there.. the artist still owes back the cashola... So with PBS.. They cover the cost of production distribution etc... Not sure how Stevie is paid for this, if its all up front, or if it's strickly based on what the product moves if and when it's released - she gets a slice of that.

This has Citibank written all over it. I can see it now, " Soundstage on PBS sponsored by Citibank." Or funding for this PBS program was generously provided by donations from Citibank. Here's the deal. Soundstage provided the facilities according to the girl I spoke with (Grainger Studios was opened with a large bequest from WW Grainger founder, an industrial supply company). Anyway, Citibank, a part of Citigroup , probably would have funded the rest, the rental time, the musicians etc and then Stevie's time etc too. Stevie probably gets a cut (not all of it since Citigroup has a stake too and they are not a charity the last time I looked). I 've seen similar contracts. Example, Citi says we'll give you $ 5 million (this is a guess) and we'll sponsor the Soundstage. WTTW gets a small spliff for use of Grainger Studios(thus the reason they did not sell tickets) and then this will be marketed by PBS using their resources and they get their cut. Remember, no one is in this to be a nice guy. Its all about the $$, despite the fact that we would think otherwise. Citi would have an advertising stake in this, otherwise what was the point???? A lot of the tell tale signs will be the liner notes and the PBS show (credits ) if ever seen or issued. Just out of curiousity, did any of you SIGN a release of your image when you went there, was it posted or was it on a ticket stub for entrance? Just wondering???
Note that XRT had a stake in this too as a promotional tool. Not much from what I gather on the # of tickets they had.
Who really knows, this is the best guess I had. Without seeing the contracts, your guess is as good as mine.

A rocking Rhiannon with Stevie working the chiffon and wind machine... This is gonna really be the highlight on the DVD. I bet the DVD release might be tied into the whole Rhiannon movie project thing if it ever happens within the next year or so. Top hat and scarf... WOW :]
A smokin' hot HSML and a Crash Into Me that I will, I am sure finally fall in love with... WOW
Orchestra on BATB equals WOW. Or was it orchestra on GDW? Either way, it is going to be great.
Damn, I wish I could have seen those interactions between Stevie and the hair/make up people. You know it would be a real treat to see stuff like that on a DVD as extras.

My friend and I were at the show last night. As pointed out by everyone in this thread so far, Stevie gave her audience 110%. I really loved how chatty she was. She was making me laugh so hard with some of the things she was saying. When Vanessa and Stevie finished "The One" and Vanessa was leaving the stage, the director informed them that they needed to do the song again. Vanessa came back and said that she didn't care about re-doing the song because that means it would be longer before she would have to go back to the little black tent - waiting area for the performers. Stevie laughed a lot and when they were done the second time, Stevie tells Vanessa "go to tent" in a whispering voice. From then on, everytime Stevie would make a wardrobe or set change, she would point to the exit and whisper in the microphone "Go to tent" and there she'd go. One time she came back from her change and was out of breath. She said that she is sorry for leaving us but she wants to create a magical experience and that requires her to change her outfit. She said that she is rushing around in the back trying to get changed fast so she can come back to us quickly. I took it like she was apologizing for the delays and really felt bad that she was making us wait. She then took her arm and lowered it in front of her face as if she was centering herself in a zen-like fashion. Then they went into the next song.
Vanessa and Stevie say that they crack each other up all the time and yet state that they are not even that funny. LOL. They said that if they were just hanging out that they could easily break into singing Whitney Houston. Huh! Funny! Stevie really wanted to talk about why Bonnie Raitt wrote "Circle Dance". Her father was in musical theater and was always on the road when she was little and feels like she missed out on a good relationship with him. Stevie said that Bonnie felt even when he was home she didn't feel like he was "there" that he was always thinking about getting back to the road. Stevie says that entertainers get bored at home and want to go back to the road. She said that she is bored at home and doesn't know what to do.
At the end of Edge, she looked over at the director and said that if he wants her to re-do this, she'll kill him - or something to that effect. That song takes a lot out of her I imagine. Waddy spoke and said that they needed to re-do the beginning of Edge, so he re-did his guitar part without Stevie.
I just wanted to point out some of the fun comments made during this show.

Hmmm....that's odd that you got your picture taken with Stevie just minutes before the show started, considering that all cameras (cell phone cameras, digitals, etc.) were taken into coat check right at the front door before you even check in with the guest list people. Not calling you a liar. I'm just confused how you got a picture taken as the guy at the metal detector checked/looked at every cell phone to make sure it wasn't a camera. I tried walking through with my cell phone as I didn't want it being lost in coat check but he still took it at the metal detectors as it had the lens. I was bummed but did indeed get it back after the show.

What was the "something sweet" that Stevie told you? What was the "something" that your friend told Stevie? How did the "opportunity" come about??

My friend and I were given the opportunity to take a photo with Stevie and Waddy just minutes before the show started. Stevie was already in her Stand Back outfit and looked absolutely gorgeous and thin. She was nervous but talked to us momentarily. I was soo nervous to finally meet Stevie that all I got out was "Thank You for everything" and something else that wasn't very meaningful LOL. Kind of cheesy I know but we were rushed and everyone was nervous. She held my hands and said something sweet to me but that was it. My friend was given the chance to tell Stevie something that she has been wanting to tell her for a long time. I am glad we had the chance, even if it wasn't the most ideal situation - rushed.

Brett was saying that Stevie mentioned something to the effect that Soundstage would be her last taping and that Vanessa Carlton and younger female singer/songwriters would be the future, and that someday Stevie wouldn't be around anymore. Can someone elaborate on this? Did you get the feeling that she was serious that this would be her last taping of any televised concert?

Yes, it definitely seems that she specifically said this would be her last taping. She mentioned how hard it is to prepare but wanted to do this after such a successful tour. I sort of thought that she meant this would be the last solo taping, period (dvd or tv).
It was seriously really sad though when she said that she would not be around "forever."
She said this right before she called out Vanessa Carlton to perform The One. Stevie said that Vanessa was her favorite current day singer/songwriter. She said that her songwriting skills were brilliant. Then Stevie pleaded with the crowd to support Vanessa and the young singer/songwriters of today for the future. Then this is when Stevie reminded everybody that she would not be around forever. When a few of us (including myself) made noises at that Stevie quickly said something like "I'm not saying this to be depressing but it's the truth."
You know I should say that I really noticed Stevie put emphasis on "I'm getting older, too" during Landslide. I know that she has put emphasis on this over the past few years but she turned her back to the crowd, leaned her head back, and really belted this part out in the last part of Landslide.

Looking through this thread it doesn't seemed anybody mentioned the DVD release time. The mc before the show said that this performance would air on PBS sometime in early 2007 (many have said January or February) then he said the DVD will come out next year. He did not say mid or late year, though. So hopefully it does come out within the next year (I wish it came out today! I really want to see how many times they caught me dancing/going wild....haha)

With the whole Crystal Visions Tour, and the way she thanked everyone for sticking with her all these years - and the fact that she said it at every show, made me think many times, christ! this almost sounds like here LAST tour ever! But then, the fact that the tour was in support of a greatest hits collection in celebration of everything she's done with FM and solo - and the fact that they are so scripted with their speaches at the shows, it caused me to doubt it... But, you never know... She may pull a Christine and NOT say it's her last tour or whatever, and just STOP!

The backdrop was incredible. During the long piano intro before the piano intro to Rhiannon, there was a short film of a woman playing piano with a little girl also. Very moving. The last image showed the girl with a close up of her eyes that suddenly took on the shape of a cat's eyes. Verrrrry haunting. Verrrry cool. Stevie's so awesome. She was incredibly intense during Edge of 17. You sorcerer's and sorceress's are gonna love this show. I can't wait to see it!

You know Stevie really put emphasis on a few words last night more than other shows during the CV tour.....
"I'm getting older, too" - the last part in Landslide....she really put emphasis on this by tilting her head back and belting this out....more than usual. Like she really, really meant it :-/ I'm still a little upset that she told the "truth" when it came to her not being around forever :-/
But then when she said "timeless" in both BATB and Sorcerer it helped erase the quote from her about not being around one day....she had a certain twinkle/smirk in her eye during BATB (she's already looking phenomenal during this song but when says that she really knows it)....did you notice this?

If she did that newer ending for GDW where she's going, "You can't save me now. You can't free me now. You can't see me now. You just can't do it . . . " That's really nice too. In fact, I like that ending almost as much as I like her, "it's only me that's talking to you, in the still of the night. . . . How still my love or should I say, hold still, hold still, my love . . ."
Very teasing and beautiful stuff.
I'll be glad to get an official tape of that. The Vegas arrangements she did for GDW, HSML and Sorcerer were quite fresh and dynamic. I'll be so satisfied to have them captured.

Yes, she did do the "newer" version of Gold Dust Woman. Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.....you can't save me now. Remarkable, I love how she shadows Waddy at the end, too.
She also did the "ooooooh" part tremendously at the end of SB :-)

When CV came out, I was surprised how many people said that they heard
EO17 lyrics that they'd never known about before. She's been doing that for years.
People surprise me. Yet, although I've been online a long time and a fan of FM's even longer, I'd never used the internet for the group until the SYW publicity started in 2003. I'd post on an X-Files analysis group, but never even tried to get any FM info online, for many years. Which is a real bummer, because if I'd been connnected, I'm sure I would have learned about The Dance taping beforehand and been able to attend both shows. I saw many Dance tour shows (but not as many as I would have seen if I'd known Christine was leaving), but I would give anything to have seen the actual DVD performances live. Logging on opens up a whole new world.

A VIP reception with a "meet and greet" was held before the show. They were running very late, therefore we only got to see her minutes before we were seated and she went out on stage. I was purposely vague regarding my very brief conversation with Stevie because the focus of my post was to provide additional commentary that hadn't been discussed yet about the show itself. Secondly, my friend's conversation with Stevie is personal and it is not my place to post about it on the internet.
The picture with Stevie and Waddy was taken professionally and has not yet been sent to me. As for cell phones themselves, we went through a different entrance and were allowed to keep ours as long as we promised to turn them off and not to take photos during the show. I adhered to that and did not take any photos of Stevie, but I was bad and did take a pic of the "Stevie Nicks" lights during intermission.

I totally understand the vagueness. I'm just curious though as to how you got the VIP tickets. Citi originally had something posted about VIP tickets and when I asked about them, they told me it was a mistake on their website and they didn't actually have any of those tickets. So, I was just curious as to where they came from. You can PM me if you prefer. I won't post your response if you want to keep it quiet.:)

Ok back to the show...
I think jimmy asked about the ending of rhiannon- she rocked the ending and took it up near the end
I also noticed the "wild eyes" a la stand back on snl
I'll do a proper review as soon as I can buy everyone should know, setlist and costumes and all that aside, la nicks pulled from her toenails to give everything, vocally and physically, she had. The best concert, IMO, in 10 or more yrs
Also she looked SO thin - the camera really does not do her justice - she looked gorgeous and svelte - and I loved the wavy hair
Oh boots were on all night and they were the real deal no halfass boots
WAIT,WAIT,WAIT. ......There was WAVY HAIR!?

Put this in perspective. She just lost her dad. She is nearing 60. Everyone around her is in the late 50s or 60s (isnt Waddy 60??) and all the old rockers from the 60s and 70s are dying out or no longer touring. I think the reality is really starting to hit her (menopause, dad, niece is now 16) etc etc.

Yes Newzchspy, according to The Penguin, Waddy was born in May 24, 1947. Stevie has called him her "Gemini Twin" as their birthdays are celebrated around the same time. (Stevie's is May 26, 1948)

I'm so happy for those of you who were able to go to this special event. I have a Citicard and would have definitely looked into getting tickets if I didn't live so far away (San Diego). Hopefully it won't take forever for the DVD to come out. I would think they would want it out sooner than later, as to "strick while the iron is hot" (the "iron" being the Crystal Visions release and tour).
Tiffany - you lucky dog. I've been backstage TWICE with you before, where we weren't able to actually meet Stevie for one reason or another. Now you've been able to. Sigh... maybe it'll happen for me someday. Can you send some lucky pixie dust my way or something? :p
Touring again in May 2008? Hmm. Lindsey keeps talking about the Mac touring in 2008, Stevie says she won't unless Christine is there, (although I think Mick and Lindsey would be able to convince her otherwise). It'll be exciting to see what will happen.

I didn't get the impression she was calling it quits either. I think she was just trying to promote Vanessa and the younger female artists that are out there...they are the future, etc.
Oh yes -- the new diamond encrusted moons were spectacular. I noticed that Sharon and Jana also had them on, but Lori was wearing a old school gold one. I think Vanessa's was actually silver unless I couldn't tell from the lighting.

Hi Arlene! That was the FM show around 4th of July weekend in Dallas in 2003. A bunch of us were staying at the Crescent Court and met at the bar before the show. I asked you to take Gerald who was here from The Netherlands to his hotel at some ungodly hour. Remember the parking garage? :o
Hey!! OMG.. are you serious??? Yes, that WAS the show, during the 4th of July weekend! Yes, we all met up at the Crescent Court hotel at the bar! OMG, it was you who asked me to take Gerald to his hotel? LOLOLOL.. He was SOOOO sweet, and I remember getting lost going to his hotel with my friend, and I think - to be honest, it was only like 10 minutes away.. (The EASY WAY) and it took us like an hour and a half - and my friend and I laughed the entire way back, that was SOOOOO funny! It was like 3am, if I remember.. LOLOL - What a "trip" that parking garage was! LOLOLOLOLOL.. That was the funnest show ever! I had several friends, later on tell me that they too were at that show, and Barb (Timeless Barb) had told me she was going to be there, so we were on the lookout for her all night, and couldn't find her! What a BLAST that show was!! It's Such a small world! LOL:laugh::wavey:- It's GREAT to see you here!!

btw, some of you know how much I love Imogen Heap. Thursday Stevie said something to the effect of "as Imogen Heap says, give me an hour and I'll give you your dreams" - I almost died. I can't remember which song she was introducing. I think Dreams. that's my favorite lyric from my favorite song, Shh. I didn't even know Stevie knew/liked/listened to Imogen.
anyway, I'm still working on my formal review. coming soon!

^^ That shit had better be on the DVD! See, that's the thing that kills me about Stevie. I get fed up with the clothes, setlist, same same same-itis, etc. Then she says something like that and I get all starry eyed again.
Damn it woman! Pick a side! Either be a cool old rock chick or throw in the towel.

Me too :-)
I was at the stage. And I will always treasure my GA laminate :-) I'm hoping that when the camera was right smack in my face for what the two ladies next to me called "Stevie's longest greeting" during the Edge Walk will be shown on the television show/dvd :-)
Glad you finally got to touch her hand! I know from experience that everything moves in slow motion when Stevie's shaking hands. Seems like she holds your hand & looks into your eyes for an eternity. In reality, it's like 5 seconds. :p I have my hand shake on video, which I treasure. Hopefully you'll make it onto the DVD.

Forgot one other thing, forgive me if someone covered this:
Stevie said she asked someone to slightly turn up the fan but now it's going whoosh so could they turn it down again. When no one came out right away she said, I guess I'll just do it myself, it's OK I was a waitress, I can do anything. This is absolutely not an accurate quote but it went something like that. PS I was there with my good friend Robin, she was the "guitar pick" girl. Again, we had such fun with our new friends in line, waiting to get in. Hope you all had a great time!

My God. Thank you so much, all of you who were there, for all the thoughts and recaps and experiences. Magnificent.
You guys know, you guys that went - serious opportunity of a lifetime. Very Srs.
I'm so happy for you, it sounds spectacular, I am delighted with all of your reports (except the guy who is really mad about the models. I see his point, and it sucks nard, but like Serrart said, this is America. Just be more attractive next time. Tooootally kidding. Totally.)
Keep the reports and impressions coming, because I know it will be different when it is edited.
I'm kinda grooving on the sexy Vanessa Carleton semi lesbi hints. What's up with that? We know Stevie likes the Cancers, but was it actually sexy? Nevermind, I just love it. I'm glad so many people I know went, I'm so fricking happy for you.
And to hear that Stevie kicked it out, Extra Style, warms my cockles. Like Jazzy said sometime before - complain about her setlist, but when she kicks it out on those songs, nothing is equal, nothing can match it.
I was also glad to hear that some different songs made it into the setlist, I hope they survive editing.
Damn it woman! Pick a side! Either be a cool old rock chick or throw in the towel.
Aw, Shmike. Why does she have to pick a side? Isn't she already a cool old rock chick, despite if she mentions Imogene or not? Is that really the true measure of her worth at this point? I would f*cking hope not. Cause, as far as I have calculated, she's accomplished a hellavuh lot. Like, more than anyone.
Can't you suspend expectations, to see what actually comes? And instead of judging according to your expectation, can't you judge what actually happened? Impartially?
Can't she be like the rest of us, amazingly stellar at some points, and just regular at others? Except that her stellar is way more stellar than we ever are, and her "just regular" points are probably still more stellar than most of us will ever be?
I resist defining and judging Stevie, to some degree, a large degree. Why bother? She will delight you or she won't, but to go in with weird expectations, at this late date, with the knowledge at hand...well...well...WELL, I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD!!!
We all basically know by now her limitations at this point. Which don't preclude her from giving a kick ass, chill inspiring, silence provoking, awe enducing, fan girl squealing, awesome performance. Is it the same as before? No. Is it what I just said? Lots of times.
I? I get a massive thrill out of her performing her songs well. I was ECSTATIC to hear from y'all attendees that Rhiannon was Beyond. I was ecstatic her whole last tour because it was evident that her voice was the best it had been in years.
If you think about other, past, things, you aren't truly seeing Stevie as she is now. We all want a setlist change, but in the meantime (as in that will probably never happen), it is still worthwhile to see Stevie AS SHE IS NOW. Which is what I mean about expectations. Adjust them. If you want to enjoy her performances, and still see all the goodness that is available. Conversely, you can see her performances and be thinking of something else, your judgement, your pre conceived notions of what it should be, and so by looking for what you imagine, you will miss the beauty that is actually evident before you. And if you can't find beauty in her performances now, that is fine. I understand. Then don't. But to compare her to what you want, and judge her solely about that - well - you're kind of making stuff up.
You have expectations not related to the actual person as she exists now. You are gladly setting yourself up for disappointment, disappointment you know will come, and which you seem to revel in.
It's like...if someone expected me to be just as good at Softball or Volleyball as I was when I was 19 - that will never happen. It will never be true again. It won't be repeated. Not my fault, just what happens.
That's how Stevie is. Except she was great at her thing for way longer. She's f*cking 60. C'mon.
peace out.

That's how Stevie is. Except she was great at her thing for way longer. She's f*cking 60. C'mon. She gave us, like, 15 years of prime vocals. Then 15 more years of pretty great, inimitable vocals. And she did coke and smoked and was in 2 bands touring the whole time. And recording. Plus she was in a band before that, touring with them (BN) and recording.
My god, that her voice lasted so long is incredible. That she gave us so much awesome live performance is incredible. That girl never, ever, ever, ever, stopped working. And she managed to work in some drug habits and still keep going. And she wasn't just recording, she was touring her ass off. With her band, with FM, with Tom Petty, with whoever. She was singing her ass off most days of most years. Like, 30 years of singing your ass off, live, and recording as well. The ass we love. Plus doing publicity. Lots of publicity. 30 years of it. Media up the wazoo.
Honestly, given all those facts, for people to judge her, in some ways, makes me cringe. It's fine if you don't like her, but...could anyone have done more than she did? I haven't met, seen, heard of, or come in contact with anyone who has done so much. With such a high level of proficiency. The way she used her voice, I feel like, I would be hoarse with it about 15 years ago. But she wasn't.
So, it's fine to armchair judge, but imagine doing all that she did. Imagine.
peace out.

Oh i'd love to have seen that... now that is powerful. ... now i have to sift through what 10 more pages looking for any photo's.... or anything

Aw, Shmike. Why does she have to pick a side? Isn't she already a cool old rock chick, despite if she mentions Imogene or not? Is that really the true measure of her worth at this point? I would f*cking hope not.
Of course that's not the measure of her worth. It was just a pleasant surprise to know that she likes a singer/songwriter from a newer generation that doesn't suck. (Sorry VC fans)
Cause, as far as I have calculated, she's accomplished a hellavuh lot. Like, more than anyone.
I just bought eight Dolly Parton albums on ebay. Seven of which were made between the years of 1978 and 1980. Not to mention acting, Oscar nominated song writing, acting and having a theme park named after her...she's been making albums and touring constantly since then as well. I can name more if you want :D
Can't she be like the rest of us, amazingly stellar at some points, and just regular at others? Except that her stellar is way more stellar than we ever are, and her "just regular" points are probably still more stellar than most of us will ever be?
If people paid hundreds of dollars and flew across the country to see me in public, I would hope I'd be way more stellar than the average person. She can act however she wants offstage. As a matter of fact I have become far more interested in her off-stage life than the stage persona. Her work with the troops and interviews move me way more than the music these days. Most of the time anyway.
Can't you suspend expectations, to see what actually comes? And instead of judging according to your expectation, can't you judge what actually happened? Impartially?

Who said anything about this? Would I still want the DVD (badly, tbh) if I was convinced she gave lousy performances?

Adjust my expectations? Do you even know what they are?
Making stuff up? Reveling in my disappointment? What goes through your head woman? Honestly...

Whatsawhythehuh? You assume too much. You also might be a little biased if in your eyes no one...like...ever came close to Stevie's level of greatness. Let's call it "glitter factor". She'd like that. She would also be the first to name those who have done far more in their careers compared to hers. Careers the length of hers are becoming way more common in the music industry, and others in her age group are putting out out some of their best music in years. Annie Lennox, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Debbie Harry, Lindsey Buckingham, Patty Griffin, EMMYLOU and even dear Dolly (who has a new one out in March of '08) are a few examples. What kills me the most is that I know she has the talent (not a sign of lowered expectaaayyyshuns) and I know she could release an amazing album if she threw herself into it. We have gotten great tours and interviews of our girl in the past several years but...we all know she's capable of more. We've seen it come out here and there lately, so it wouldn't be "imaginitive" to expect a little of that glitter factor to find it's way to a recording studio.
Also, I do my judging from a chaise lounge, thank you very much!
