Iraq war's most ridiculous profiteer arrested
B25506 / Thu, 25 Oct 2007 15:15:40 / Iraq
The harder they come. Newsday reports that David L. Brooks, the war profiteer who made tens of millions of dollars selling bulletproof vests to the military, including 23,000 that were later recalled, was arrested by the feds yesterday. Most of you will remember Brooks as the guy who threw a $10 million bat mitzvah for his daughter, complete with musical guests 50 Cent, Aerosmith, Don Henley, Stevie Nicks and, wait for it, Kenny G.

The Institute for Policy Studies’ Sarah Anderson, who helped expose Brooks’ absurd payouts, sent me this note earlier today, “Like Al Capone, Brooks downfall will likely be his financial shenanigans rather than the possibility that troops were endangered because of his company’s shoddy vests.”

Here's another article, w/ pics in case anyone didn't see 'em the first time...

War profiteer faces prison for Mitzvahpalooza

The former CEO of the leading supplier of body armor to U.S. soldiers in Iraq has been charged with looting the company to bankroll a lavish lifestyle that included a $10 million bat mitzvah for his daughter. You remember the "mitzvahpalooza"-- that's the private party that featured performances by sellout superstars including Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, 50 Cent, Ciara, Tom Petty, Steven Tyler & Joe Perry of Aerosmith and (strolling near the buffet, searching for the brown note) Kenny G-- "private," that is, until Tabloid Baby made it public when we ran exclusive and timeless photos of the event two years ago.

Now the real-life Daddy Warbucks may pay big time for the Rainbow Room rockfest. Long Islander David Brooks faces 21 counts, including securities fraud, insider trading, tax evasion and obstruction of justice. He could go to jail for life. And these rock 'n' roll and hip hop stars must go through life knowing these pictures are in their closets.

Along with the Poison and Bon Jovi covers on Timespace the Bat Mitzvah has to rank as the nadir of La Nick's career..this just bumps it up a notch.

These revelations can't help but bring up the irony in La Nicks's campaign to hand out IPODS and visit injured US. troops and accepting big bucks from this slimeball .where is diss when you need him? on edit it might be an appropriate response for all the artists that took money from this creep for the Bat Mitzvah to donate their pay to a fund for injured soldiers or innocent Iraqi citizens that were injured in the war.

Ah well. All's fair in love and war. And yes, that thing was the nadir of both Stevie and Petty's career. Why in the hell were they there?

Agreed. Excellent idea.

As for playing the Bat Mitzvah, very weird. But then again, think of all those private corporate parties Stevie has played since her last solo album.

I'm trying to picture Stevie & Tom dancing the hora or even Eten Bamidbar. Maybe they went to the service itself, before the party. Maybe Stevie had an aliya.

Didn't Stevie donate her earnings to the Red Cross or something? I remember reading something about that, I can't remember where tho....

It was Henley. They thought it was a Bat Mitzvah not knowing the guy stole the money for it. But still, it's crap. Donating the money is in order, I concur.

Didn't Petty play a set before Stevie and Henley? Or am I thinking about some other warmonger's daughter's Bat Mitzvah?:laugh:

Not sure, just going by what the article said and my somewhat shoddy memory. I can't imagine Petty doing this though.
