Hey everybody, so I am so very excited to see Stevie next Thursday night at her PBS Soundstage taping!!

I am holding a contest - I don't have many disposable Stevie souveniers that you guys don't already have when it comes to prizes (Vintage Rolling Stones magazines, live cds, bootleg dvds, etc.) so I think I'll offer a phone call to the winner following the show (would be the next day as I'm traveling to make the show) if they'd like. I can also share some pictures/videos that I have taken in my other two experiences in 1st row for Stevie this past summer (Detroit & London), if they'd like. I will be posting a review on here for everybody, though.

The contest is simple (yet challenging):

Post what Stevie's setlist will be for her Soundstage taping as well as who her "friends" will be onstage. If there is a tie, I'll go by the order of the setlist.

This should be fun to read :-) I do encourage comments about other's postings, too :-)

This will be so much fun to guess the same old songs, and same old friends she drags out....can't wait to read everyone's comments!!!

We all know about Stevie's famous "Stevie Nicks & Friends" shows (AHI shows for gosh sakes!)....I'm not guessing a setlist/friends list as I can't call myself ;-) however I will provide my personal analysis on what may go down....

I'm guessing she'll at least bring out Mick considering they are hooking up soon for their show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. I would not be surprised if Mick came out for Sara, considering she played that at Rosemont Theatre.

Perhaps Lindsey will be there considering Stevie was there for his Soundstage performance a few years ago? The thing is this is a Stevie solo performance celebrating her solo career - so I'm having a tough time believing she will roll out multiple Fleetwood Mac guests....although Christine would be amazing! But there is absolutely no way she'll be there, too many other guests that make sense for this "solo career" celebration (Crystal Visions).

I would guess either Vanessa Carlton (who has a new song with Stevie) or Sheryl Crow (Sorcerer) will be there. I think it would be really cool if Lindsey came out to play Sorcerer with Stevie considering they performed it in the Buckingham Nicks days :-)

Then I would guess that Mr. Tom Petty may very well be there despite the whirlwind around him with the new DVD. Considering she played with him for free at several of his shows last year, I would expect he'd return the favor by doing either Stop Dragging My Heart Around and I Need to Know with her.

I'm pretty sure Henley will not be there as The Eagles & Dixie Chicks are tied up out in Los Angeles right now for a few shows....although the night she has Soundstage they are not playing....

I just can't see Chris Issak being at Soundstage. Many people have guessed him but I say "no way." She didn't incorporate him into any songs this past tour besides a once or twice performance of Rock & Roll. But even Vanessa Carlton helped out in London on Rock & Roll....as did Kid Rock in Detroit. But I don't think she'll be doing Rock & Roll at Soundstage (although she played it at the "test show" in Rosemont). If she does play it, she'll definitely bring out somebody to help her.

Well, Stevie's set will probably be the one from Friday night. Maybe we should guess what her friends will be playing.

My prediction is as follows:

-The setlist will be the same as Rosemont, minus one song. My hunch is that "How Still My Love" will be dropped.

-Vanessa Carlton's "The One" will be added.

-Guests will be: Mick Fleetwood, Dave Matthews, Vanessa Carlton and one more. I am tempted to say Tom Petty, but he's a bit of a jerk when it comes to helping Stevie out. :sorry: I mean, she's there for him at the drop of a hat, but he doesn't seem too keen on returning the favor for her projects. It's most definitely not Lindsey! Sheryl Crow seems to be out of the picture as well. It's none of the Eagles. Billy Corgan is on tour. Courtney Love is too much of a car wreck. I was thinking maybe Robert Plant... but he's probably rehearsing with Led Zeppelin. Therefore, my guess is Chris Isaak.

I would guess Dave Matthews.... Maybe thats why she sang Crash Into Me last night! OMG I would die..... 2 of my idols on stage... O Jesus

This is exciting!! I will predict that she is going to do the same set list as the Rosemont show, and the Guest's will be: Mick, Vanessa Carlton, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews, and Lindsey. I'm not sold 100% on the Lindsey idea, as from what I gather, they haven't been the closest lately, but I'm going with my gut feelings. I think she may change up the order of the songs a bit, but I do feel they will be the same songs, basically! That is going to ROCK! I'll send you my phone number for the call! LOLOLOLOL :p:p

I don't think there will be any 'special guests' at all; I think she considers the people on the stage her 'friends,' as she has been speaking of them as friends who have been with her through much of her professional life (Waddy, Carlos, Sharon, Lori, etc). Maybe there's a slim chance Vanessa will do one solo with her since the PR campaign is on for that new album. People at the show last night have said she wanted to test the songs on them. I think we will see those songs on the DVD, minus CRASH, as some people said she was shaky on it. I think maybe she'll DO IT for the show, but cut it out on the released tape.

It was my understanding that last Friday's show will be replicated for Soundstage. There were no guests on Friday. But, who knows, after all this is billed ".... & Friends". I'll have to wait and see. Only 2 more days!!!

I have a hunch that Stevie's Friends will consist of Dave Matthews, Vanessa Carlton, The Fray, Keyshia Cole, & Gervase de Peyer.

My guess is friends will include Smilin' Joe Dirt, Wayne Newton & whatever is left of Right Said Fred.
Soundstage will mark a crucial point for Stevie's career when she unveils the theme song for the new Geico Caveman sitcom.

:wavey:

All joking aside, I don't think any people will show...I think Stevie really wants this to be about Stevie, and that's not a negative, just my thought on where she is at right now. She's had enough of other people's spotlight for a time, and I think she'll want this to be her catalog. ALTHOUGH, I do think she'll add this Crash song, that imo is just absurd.

Meant to add as well congrats on being able to go, and I do sincerley hope we don't have to win to know what went down. :xoxo:

I'll go way out on a limb and predict guest star Bette Midler, as Bette would probably love for MizStevie to appear at her Hoolaween thing again this year; and even if Stevie doesn't appear for Bette, she has donated her Rhiannon print so maybe Bette will be ever so grateful and fly to Chicago.
I think Bette and Stevie are privately supporting each others attempts to get nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Fall of Fame and have gotten friendly. As Stevie has her band together and rehearsed right now, it might make the Hoolaween gig even a bit more likely, and Bette has been in rehearsals already for her Vegas shows early next year so she'd probably enjoy the exposure on Soundstage which would be airing on tv early next year.
The song? Oh, the encore of 'Rock and Roll' followed by a duet of 'The Rose' to close the show rather than 'Beauty and The Beast' which after all, can be seen on the RedRocks dvd.
Vanessa Carlton could likely show up, and have 'The One' be a part of the dvd, bringing the grand total of songs to 18 or 19, which would help sell the thing.
Mick Fleetwood seems a good bet(te) for showing up, but i'm not at ALL feeling Henley, Bucky or Petty...

As nice as that would be, I highly doubt it. Sheryl Crow is the scheduled performer for Hulaween this year...which would piss me right off if I shelled out a minimum of $625 to be there. Then again there is a costume contest being judged by Michael Kors. :blob2:

FYI - Grainger Studios told me on the phone today that the special guest will be Vanessa Carlton - the lady was "unaware" of any other special guests.

Also, the show is not necessarily general admission. The place holds 388....She said that indeed more than 300 tickets were issued to Stevie's friends and family. All of those tickets are reserve. Citibank card holders will be vying for the unreserved spots, which will not be in the first rows (at minimum)

Still excited :-)

I'll get back to y'all when I get back (sometime this weekend)

So, you're saying that more than 300 tickets are being used by Stevie's friends and family? And only roughly 88 tickets were given out to Citi card holders and through other promotions? I find that very hard to believe since I've seen a handful of people on here say they have tickets and I personally know of four people who are going. It just seems odd, that's all I'm saying. And I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "the unreserved spots will not be in the first rows (at minimum)." What does the (at minimum) part mean?

i just got my weekly wxrt vip email and in the programming features section it said:
"NEW RELEASES THURSDAY (10/25): Highlights include ROBERT PLANT and ALLISON KRAUSS talking about their new CD on Lin Brehmer’s morning show"
(i had no idea they were doing an album together...interesting?)

could this mean that robert plant is in town??? and could possibly be a special guest? maybe i'm reading this totally wrong, it could just be a phone interview.

All(s) I know is that Karen better have that espresso machine CRANKING during the taping cos I want Stevie to be well caffeinated for this performance. Double shots between every song, mf-er! Nicotine gum and black coffee during make-up and hair and espresso shots between songs, with a redbull and vodka on stage (in a 'Solo' brand cup with ice and a straw). She can deal with the comedown anyway she wants, I just want fiery sequences...know what I"m saying, FIERY SEQUENCES!!!

I'm guessing that Vanessa Carlton may be one that Stevie will have there if anyone~
Maybe Dave Mathews as well, cause he's in town in Chicago or coming shortly to play there soon as well~ and she did sing the song 'Crash' the other night as to "practice" it for tonight~ so its possible that it'll be a duet~
If anyone else maybe Mick but Sara was a request not planned so maybe not~
It'd be nice if Tom P. or Lindsey were there seeing as she did for them but I don't think that will happen for some reason~
So maybe just Vanessa and Dave
Same setlist but with Crash and the One added~ Maybe How Still dropped and Enchanted as well (Don't think Sara will be on cause it was a request the other night)

According to this interview published today, Vanessa just left Stevie in Chicago... They were Rehearsing??

http://www.livedaily.com/news/13041.html

What was it like to tour with Stevie Nicks. She must have given you some amazing advice.

She is my mentor. I actually just left her today. We were in Chicago rehearsing. She is an extraordinary woman. She's such a good person. I know she's Stevie Nicks and she's so magical on so many levels and larger than life. But she's this earthy, amazing person at the end of the day. She's such a good woman. I look up to her. Touring with her was just the best. Being near Stevie is such a gift. She keeps giving to me. She was a big part of this record. She sequenced the album. She sang on the record. She was there right from the beginning, when I didn't have a new deal yet and I didn't have the record written. She helped me through every step. Every stage of this record, Stevie was involved and there by my side. Stevie was encouraging me to move forward and take the next step. As scary as it is, you have to take the next step.

michelej1
10-25-2007, 04:15 PM
So, I guess one surprise guest is definitely pinned down. I wonder what they will perform together.

Vanessa said:

She sequenced the album.

This makes me laugh. Stevie takes credit for sequencing Rumours too. She should start hiring out her sequencing services.

Good sequencing is less important in the digital world, but still vital to a live stage show.

Thinking of the SYW = Dud thread. RTTG and Silver Girl back to back is the worst mistake in history. I believe it may have resulted in at least 3 deaths. There would have been more casualties on vinyl. Now that we have compact discs and ipods, the world is a little safer. I didn't skip over songs when I listened with a turntable. I was too doggone lazy. I don't skip over songs often today either. I like to preserve an album's integrity, by listening to it as a whole, when possible.

Oh my god! If she doesn't do B&TB, I'll probably kill myself! You can't even compare the "current" B&TB performance to Red Rocks. That song is the only one that I'm REALLY looking forward to on a professionally shot dvd. I'm still pissed she didn't put it on "Crystal Visions". She absolutely blew that song out of the water on the last couple of tours!

The only song from the CV tour I really dislike. I can't stand anything about it. The backdrop, the anoying candles, I don;t enjoy her version of the song. I liked her recent HAEWAFY way better then BATB. The songs I NEED to be on DVD are Fall From Grace, Sorcere, the new GDW and above all us HOW STILL MY LOVE.

I loved the song until Stevie rigged it for Vegas. The film, her costume, the candelabra. Her upswept hair, topped with the frou frou bow, the dress. It makes me want to die. If only I were a child too blind to see.

I'm not sure she'll do it like that for Soundstage. That's supposed to present the artist in a more impromptu light, right? So, maybe she'll just do an unadorned performance of it for the taping.

"Beauty And The Beast" is supposed to be a grand, melodramatic kind of song -- after all, it was inspired directly by Cocteau's highly stylized and ultra-romantic film -- so I think the way she's presenting it right now is perfect.

I suppose anything's possible, but I highly doubt that there will be many -- if any -- changes from what she played last week. The Rosemont performance was basically a dress rehearsal for tonight.

If anything, Vanessa might join her for "The One," which would most likely be in addition to the rest of the songs, rather than a replacement for something. Other than that, I think the setlist is, well, set.

Of course, whether or not they'll all make it to the actual PBS broadcast is another story.

Yeah, I like that too, for the most part. For instance, I loved the colorful shawl for Sara, the hair, the movie clips from past performances that made me cry, and the way she circled herself over to Lindsey's microphone. I eat that up, but that Beauty and the Beast thing lessened the song for me after all these years. That's kind of sad. Nowadays, I no longer want BATB or HAEWAFY.

You'll probably get your wish though. Stevie licensed the film and she's going to get her money's worth, although she will doubtless have to pay more to use it in a DVD than she does during a live performance. Maybe that will keep it from being included once the dvd is released. I hope. I hope.

My theory is, that she's going to add all the stuff she's played for almost every tour. I'm seeing Outside the Rain, Stop Draggin', for sure being put back in. I don't think she added them at Rosemont because she didn't want to change the setlist too drastically, and just wanted to play Crash and Sara live one time to get the feel.

Or did it take the song out of the context of Stevie's own loves and relationships, and cast it in more of a fairy-tale light?

'La Belle et la Bete' has been one of my favorite films since I saw it on PBS when I was young, so the connection between it and Stevie's song has always been really special to me. I'm a dork that way (and in many other ways).

Actually, now that you mention it, the licensing will probably prevent us from seeing any of Cocteau's film in the concert DVD. Other than maybe some dark flashes at the bottom of the screen behind her as she's singing (which is about all you can see of the "Gypsy" video during the 'Live In Boston' DVD, too). :(

I like the way it's presented too.... If she can't use the footage of the film, what would KILL, would be if she could manage an orchestra, even a tiny one, to back her on it... That would be cool. Otherwise, I don't see her doing the song at all if she can't have all the bells and whistles to go along with it... To me it might be a let down, maybe not vocally, but visually.

If that doesn't normally bother you, what was it about this particular presentation that detracted from the song for you? Did it seem too over-the-top? Or did it take the song out of the context of Stevie's own loves and relationships, and cast it in more of a fairy-tale light?

When I saw her for the first time in Vegas, me and my Aunt both agreed that the movie in the backround was a little bit much, and really did detract from the song. I love them both, but together its a little overwhelming.

:([/QUOTE]

What? Stevie couldn't license her own video? Liam no understand.

My guess is that it would still play behind her during the actual performance, but it would be filmed by the Soundstage crew in such a way that we won't actually see much or any of it on the DVD.

I've only seen some bootlegs and, of course, the visual focus and point of view always moves to Stevie.

Thanks for pointing that out, Liam. :)

I only meant that with the camera angles and the way it's edited, you can barely tell what's happening on those screens behind her.

Well, I wouldn't mind taking it out of the context of Stevie's own love and relationships, but I do not think the period or era depicted in the video fit well with the song and also I found the dated film technique distracting. The movie frames moved at a jerky pace to begin with, but with the choppy editing the problem worsened for me. It didn't flow with the arc of the song, especially when Stevie reaches the most emotional ("I've cha-aa -- nged, changed") parts. I'd prefer to see visual images more sweeping and smooth. One may have inspired the other, but the song is not the soundtrack I would pick for that movie and the movie is not the video I would pick for the song. They didn't seem to be in synch, thematically or motion wise.

Also, while I could take the video on its own terms, when coupled with Stevie's outfit it was all too much. Either dress differently or drop the video. One or the other. After seeing it the first time, I closed my eyes and just listened to her sing at the other performances I attended, because I found the visuals conflicting for attention laughable -- and not in a good way.

I might be interested in a music video where Stevie actually played the role of the beauty, re-enacting the movie scene. To me that could make the song and the video one, part of each other. As it is, for me, the movie scenes and the performer at the mic do not match. Michele

No, "Weeds"!!!!! That is my favorite show ever. And over the past couple of seasons they've featured different musicians performing the theme song "Little Boxes." I could totally see Stevie doing this!

I would loooove to hear Stevie doing Little Boxes.

I went up to see Stevie in London, Ontario this past summer....at the show Vanessa opened up and performed "The One" solo w/o Stevie. There may be a clip of it somewhere.

Hey guys, I can't really find a clear cut winner - not that this contest was very serious as it was more or less just for fun. There were a couple people that said there would be no guests and a couple that mentioned Vanessa Carlton.

I think Carol7Lynn had Vanessa & Mick. She's probably the winner as at least she had Vanessa whereas some didn't guess Vanessa.

How about this: I'll try to post a review this weekend....I have been contributing random details on here and other websites but I'll try to get one for everyone :-)
