Reading through the comments on some of the Stevie videos on YouTube, I'm shocked to find that there are certain people who prefer 1987-1994 Stevie over Buckingham/Nicks-1986 Stevie. I mean, what the hell? Maybe it's the droning, dispassionate singing, the ridiculous costumes, or the lack of stage presence that really thrills these people. How anyone could listen to a TimeSpace bootleg and say "Wow, she really kicks ass in this performance, unlike the Bella Donna tour, where she was a total mess!" There's one guy who honestly thinks that Klonopin enhanced her stage presence, and that she looked better wearing giant inflated shoulder pads than her old stage clothes! Am I just not delusional enough?

I´m big fan of 87-91 era! Stevie had the greatest voice during tours in these years. I like it thanx to new guys in Fleetwood Mac too.
Stevie had super hairstyle and interesting dresses. I really like it!
Tango in the Night Concert video is my favourite, The Chain and Stand Back from it is incredible the best what I ever heard. On TOSOTM album are great song like Rooms on Fire, Alice or Whole Lotta Trouble (really coll video!). BTM tour I like too, but it´s damage that doesn´t exist any quality video from it. And Timespace? I know that Stevie was little bit outside, but some performances were great (I mean Stand Back on Arsenio hall, I have many records from this tour and I have to say that my favourite Edge of seventeen is from Whiskey show in 1991).
My opinion is that in early years Stevie didn´t have mature voice, but I receive that most of people like these times more. And now? Last years Stevie did many tours, but very simple and little bit boring.
So now, get down to me:D.

well, for one, some people prefer her voice in that era. Especially SA. I have to admit, it's not my all-time favorite voice of hers, but it sounds pretty dang good. During the street angel tour, I think she realized her writing wasn't up to speed, but she gave it everything she had while she was on stage. As far as RAL and OSOTM, idk. I like both of those albums, and some people might like the low-key stevie, vs. the rip it up and tear it down stevie. I think it also might have to do with what era you came to love stevie. It sounds silly but I think that influences people's opinions of what era they love stevie. Either those people were just old enough at that time to really begin picking their own music and tastes, something in that era caught their eye....or...ear. So if they loved her then, they love her that way now :) sorry if that didn't make sense.
as far as the clothing. Blah. I hated all that crap, but some people are stuck in the 80's  :sorry: True story. And i'm not defending her about her clothing choices, because most of it I didn't like, BUT. I believe she started picking that type of clothing to hide her weight. She didn't feel comfortable wearing the little flowy, strappy ballerina dresses dripped in chiffon anymore. Add that to the 80's and you have major fashion no-nos.

I don't necessarily prefer the Klonopin era, but there are certainly some gems that came from the time period. I hate that even Stevie completely writes off Street Angel, because I think to this day it is a very solid album. I loved the more straight-forward electric guitar-rock feel that Street Angel had following the lofty airy fairyness of Other Side Of The Mirror. All the reviewers talked about how Trouble In Shangri La was the album that Stevie stripped off her shawls and hokey witchiness for, and put forth a straight forward high quality album. But to me Street Angel fits that description more. I mean, how can anyone not like Blue Denim, Love Is Like a River, Kick It, and Listen To The Rain? The title song is haunting, and Greta is a really fun whimiscal song. Granted the album does have it's share of stinkers (Jane most notably), but ALL of Stevie's albums have those. I think Street Angel is one of her stronger albums, especially when compared to Rock A Little.
I love Other Side of the Mirror for very different reasons. When you need escapism, that's your album. You can get lost in the day dreaminess fantasy of it. I just have to be in the mood for this album though, because most of the time it's a little too out there for me.
All this being said, I think most of Stevie's contributions to Fleetwood Mac during this era are just plain lacking. I *LOVE* Freedom from Behind The Mask, but I could pretty much leave everything else behind from Tango and Behind The Mask. Her live performances with the Mac from this time period are especially lacking. She's just not there... she's robotically phoning herself in. I think the one thing that I can say about songs like When I See You Again and The Second Time, is that they are true pieces of art. Why? They capture the destitute nature of Stevie's condition and frame of mind during some very rock bottom moments in her life. Are they pleasant and fun to listen to? No, but they aren't about pleasant and fun circumstances, they're about heartbreak, despair, and hitting absolute rock bottom. They capture that perfectly in my opinion, and that's why I feel those two songs in particular are some of Stevie's greatest artistic triumphs (and yes I'm serious!).

Yes I totally agree. The other side of the mirror and Tango showed
a very sad time in Stevie's life. Very personal, not that all of her songs did not show her personal side, during this period, she talked about Betty Ford
(welcome to the room sara) and When I see you again I think is about
her and Lindsay. There is a little of the best of in all her albums.
All of bella donna, some of wild heart. RAL I liked a lot, the other side of
the mirror some of that and the same goes for TISG. The clothes I didn't
like. Yes it was because Stevie was hiding her weight. The Klonipin years,
she didn't even know when she was on stage...Maybe she put on a good
show, but I don't think she knew where she was (same with touring
for Tango). :sorry:
Stevie may be a bit boring now. I think she is touring too much.
Change things a little. She needs to have fun up there on the stage
(or Waddy has to change somethings). But she is 59. I would not want
her running around trying to act 30 and looking stupid.
I became a big fan when I saw her hbo white winged tour around 1979 or
1980. Her music blew me away. I am a huge fan...
and I still like her now. I did my thing back in the days But I like our
Stevie straight and older.
I hope she records a new CD. That would be great.
Just my thoughts....:wavey:

A LOT of fans loved her back then, & wrote "concert reviews" in fanzines all during the Behind the Mask tour or the Timespace tour, saying Stevie was the best they'd ever seen, &c. I rolled my eyes more then than I ever have in my life. Many people have changed their tune more recently (which happens naturally anyway).

because people have different tastes. that's how.
I love every Stevie "era" for different reasons. it's hard to pick a preference, but the RAL era is definitely a front-runner. OSOTM had great songs, imo, and great costumes and big, wild, crazy hair...SA had amazing vocals. so, I totally get why some people prefer it.

David I don't think Ive ever said that I prefer that era to other eras. Stevie was so dead on the OSOTM tour. But I loved the VERSIONS of songs that came from that period. It was a new band and all new versions plus 5 new songs and new costumes. I don't have the energy to get into it.

The Street Angel tour was most assuredly post -klonopin she was out of rehab for at least 6 months before it even started.I love the 1976-`1983 Stevie best and I was actually going to see her then ..OSOTM is a 3/4 of a good album ..SA pretty much blows though.

*** Fundamentally, a lot of what we like depends on when "we" got into Stevie. I imagine that most "older" folks and some "younger" ones prefer the 1973-1983 Stevie ( "hey, it was our era dude" ) versus the OSTM or SA Stevie. I've talked to many who like the post-Dance (1997) Stevie and SYW (with FM) and TISL. I really believe it depends on when you got into her. I like older cars that seem to have character, rather than the cookie cutters they now make that all look the same.
I got into her when my brother took me to see the opening tour for Rumours at the Spectrum in Philly, so for me, the 1970s and early 80s Stevie (BD) were the best. I like the deep cuts of Stevie, not just SB, Edge of and Landslide. We're all different and thats what makes it nice.

OSOTM is a 3/4 of a good album ..SA pretty much blows though.I can only stomach three songs on OSOTM. Four on a good day. Street Angel isn't great either, but I can handle it better than Mirror.

And burn OSOTM.
Ha! I wouldn't exactly say 'burn it' because I know that would hurt alot of fans feelings, so I'll say "let's mis-place OSOTM somewhere".
I love this thread, because I have been so confused by why some fans actually prefer or admire the vacant Stevie that was present for the Tango, OSOTM, BTM, and Timespace tours. I'm glad to read people's different opinions about this sad era...
BTW, I don't count the Tango sessions as part of this era. Her voice was still very old-school Stevie on those tracks. What she brought on stage for the actual tour after Lindsey departed is quite another story..

I would have to say that my favorite Stevie era[s] are between Tusk and Wild Heart PURELY based on vocals. I love her vocal on the song 'Twisted' from 1996 also, and her Dance voice was amazing.
Her voice was still developing IMO in the 70s [just listen to the difference on BuckinghamNicks to Rumours even...], and her RAL vocals on certain songs leave a lot to be desired .
Her BEST Tango song, is WISYA. I mean WTTR...S and 7W are ok, but I really love the vocal on WISYA.
Rooms on Fire is a FANTASTIC song, but there is just something about it that I feel could be better. [I do not have the whole OSOTM album/CD yet, so I may respond more when I aquire it.]
Street Angel, it is kindof blah. It is good, but Def. Not BD/WH amazing.
I like her preformances from the Mirage tour the best. I dont know why, I just do.
I really can't pick where my favorite songs of hers are. I have some amazing demos from each and every era [some of which I like A LOT better than the album tracks, take the 'angry' Smile at You. Its MILES better than the SYW version, and I wish that they would have put that on Mirage instead of Lindseys Can't Go Back (this coming from an Extreme Buckingham fan)] and then you get albums like Wild Heart, which have amazing songs, SB, BATB, WH, and Nightbird. but then theres Gate and Garden [and others.], which kindof ruins it for me. I've decided though, that my all time favorite album of Stevie songs, is Say You Will [minus Illume, and instead of that SAY, the demo from 81]. For some reason, those songs just seem so amazing, especially compared to RAL. [Im kindof hating on RAL. my favorite song on there, is Imperial Hotel. just some food for thought.] I think Bella Donna is truely amazing, but then again, so is Rumours, and her Tusk songs.
So my tastes really vary. I just have to be in a certian mood for everything. the only songs of hers i can always listen to no matter what are
WISYA
Twisted
Beautiful Child
Think About It
After the Glitter Fades
Gypsy [the extended version]
Thats Alright
Everybody Finds Out
Destiny Rules
Goodbye Baby
Thrown Down
and of course Stand Back
I can see how someone may prefer the klonopin era, just it is not my personal favorite
and I think the Mirage era really kicks ass. TBT. both Stevie and Mac wise. I [I]love it!

That's my favorite on it, too. It's kind of interesting because it's a veiled (or not so veiled) reference to the old Sunset Marquis on Hollywood Boulevard, where Stevie's friend & Benmont & his friend used to rendezvous clandestinely. And sure enough Benmont's B3 palms really make the song. Stevie told those guys to make it "sound Petty."
