View Full Version : Is This Stevie?

Searching through Google Images, I came accross this photo in a blog. The person who found it says this:

"OK, who is this? Here is what we know:

It's a Polaroid
It's a chick
It's probably NOT Stevie Nicks
I never did the girl in the pic (either)

I hope that narrows it down for you.

If she is important enough to litter the parking lot at Fry's with her visage, she is important enough to go on the internet and show off her eyelids."

At first, I didn't think it was Stevie because of the lips and the arch of the eyebrows, but now, I'm not so sure. What do you guys think?

So...If you think its Stevie...What the hell is she doing in the corner of a cinder block room with a roll of toilet paper behind her. And why would someone take this polaroid of her?

Why is the earth round?

exactly!

yes, this is 100% SYW Stevie...looks like right before showtime based on the outfit and perfect hair and makeup... maybe a hair or makeup person took this at a dress rehearsal or night 1 of the tour so that Stevie could look EXACTLY the same each night! ha! (wish it wasnt true!)

I would have to say yes, too, it is her.
There are too many similarities to her to be someone else.
The jawline is the only thing that looks "not Stevie" to me.

I'm no Stevie expert, but I vote "no". I don't think she has one eyebrow significantly higher than the other, the chin doesn't look right and I think Stevie's nose is "perkier". Also, she may part her hair on either side, but I was thinking she usually parted it on the left.

However, if it is her, I could see maybe a makeup artist doing a shot like this for reference.

It doesn't look like Stevie to me-close, it looks like the person is contorting her face. I do however recognize the roll of toilet paper over her left shoulder-looks like scott tissue!!!! :wavey:

totally stevie. unquestionably so. i saw the photo, and was like, duh. it's from the SYW era - and what it looks like to me is a self-shot polaroid. like she took it to see her eye makeup or something. i wouldn't be too distracted by the background - she could be standing anywhere backstage at a show. backstage areas of arenas are not pretty things.

just my opinion.

dear god people. this is Stevie. even though the picture is fuzzy and not very clear, I am 99.9% certain this is Stevie.

her features are distorted because a) it's fuzzy and b) it's a polaroid.

we don't know what stage of the makeup process this was taken. Stevie's eyebrows could be close to nonexistent for all we know. I know that they are heavily defined on the Live in Boston DVD.

the hair (especially the widow's peak and that funky SYW blonde color), the lips, the eye makeup (see the infamous creasing), the sweater (right down to the stupid pearl buttons)...how could this not be Stevie?

My first response was no, just someone trying to look like her. I guess it is because we have never really seen Stevie with her eyes closed like that.
But I can see how it could be Stevie during the make up session back stage.

Here are a couple of SYW pics I saved from the forum boards during the tour to compare.

Jesus...I totally agree. I am sitting here thinking how it is possible that people do NOT think this is STevie. It is very obviously early SYW tour Stevie, with that hideous unbanged hair and sweater. Her eyebrows look exactly right to me, along with the nose and chin. Apparently it is a photo by her make up artist.

It was more than just her face though. She didn't move.

I was widely known that she hurt her hip/leg right before the tour started. Actually, that tour was just jinxed at the beginning:

1. A heartbreaker essentially killed himself with drugs during the press for the album release.

2. She was going through menopause - where is that "fanning herself" avatar

3. LB/SN DRAMA - both public Ithe interviews) and, and according to eyewitnesses and gossips, private

4. An expensive album that comparatively tanked - I bet the record sales did not even pay for the rental on the Bel Air mansion it was recorded in for a year.

I will say this though - she came back like gangbusters on the second and third legs!!! Remember the Madison, Atlanta, and Detroit shows - all those twirls

Drugs?

From Wikipedia:

Epstein died of drug overdose. Investigators were told Epstein had been using heroin. Howie was driven to St. Vincent Hospital by his girlfriend, who described him as "under distress."

Epstein was taking antibiotics for an illness, and he had recently suffered from flu, stomach problems and an abscess on his leg, friends said.

"Apparently he passed out in the bathroom, and (his girlfriend) drove him to the hospital," Madrid said.

on February 23, 2003 at the age of 47. Reportedly he was extremely despondent over the death of his 16 year-old German Shepherd a few days earlier. In recent interviews, Tom Petty admitted that Epstein's behavior had become unpredictable: "He was just degenerating on us to the point where we thought keeping Howie in the band was actually doing him more harm than getting rid of him. His personal problems were vast and serious."

"We tried everything we could to reach him but it got to the point where his ability to do gigs was diminishing." Finally, Petty took the decision to recall Ron Blair to the Heartbreakers. He said, "Eventually, we realized that we were just contributing to the problem. When you're living a life where you really don't have any responsibilities, it's easy for evil forces to take over."

"I'm devastated," said Carlene Carter, the stepdaughter of country singer Johnny Cash and daughter of June Carter Cash. "I loved him very much. My kids thought of Howie as their father."

Petty wrote the following in an article for Rolling Stone in response to Howie's death: "…there’s a great sadness, because Howie was never not a Heartbreaker. He just got to where he couldn’t do it anymore. …It’s like you got a tree dying in the backyard. And you’re kind of used to the idea that it’s dying. But you look out there one day and they cut it down. And you just can’t imagine that beautiful tree isn’t there anymore."

She did seem to be feeling much better in Madison. But we both clearly knew that something wasn't right that evening when the band and crew came into the hotel. You could just feel it. Plus they were coming off that MTV showcase trip to New York. Ever the trooper, she seemed to just deal with it. But after all these years I guess she has learned to adjust. And then the next night was the one where Lindsey had guitar issues during Say Goodbye, wasn't it? Then there was the Don't Let Me Down Again thing where the tempo got screwed up. It was great to hear that song live again but it just wasn't that tight. :o

Detroit was awesome because you got her to come over to us on Lindsey's side and do the big twirl and the funny face. The show was really good too. I can't believe she went up to her room at 3 AM and then got on a plane the next morning. After a few drinky poos no less! I was absolutely fried that day. I think I came straight from the airport and went to bed. And I was drinking water.

2. She was going through menopause - where is that "fanning herself" avatar :laugh:http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g161/danax6/steviehotflashnyc930.03.gif

I will say this though - she came back like gangbusters on the second and third legs!!! Remember the Madison, Atlanta, and Detroit shows - all those twirls :eek:It was like a switch had been flipped somewhere in late August/early September right before the second leg. She came back a whole new person.

Fry's is an Electronic store and there are a few of them scattered around here. (Los Angeles)

Here's the blog where I found it:

http://www.messengerpuppet.com/blog/SurrealLife

There is also a grocery store chain called Fry's in the Phoenix area. I still have one of their stupid sale cards back from my 2001 trip to AZ for the AHI show.

No, that was the 2000 show which I did not get to go to.

A sales card is when you have to show a card in order to get any of the 'sale' items for the 'sale' price. We have them in just about all of the markets here in RI and even CVS which is a drugstore has them. No card, no sale for you!

It's quite a macabre picture and my first impression was that it's Celine Dion on her deathbed
But i guess it is Stevie, considering the cardigan...then again look at this :

The nose still doesn't look right to me :distress: I agree that a picture with the eyes closed is harder to identify, particularly since Stevie's eyes are very distinctive.

After seeing Elise in Vegas, I call her "Mini Stevie"....she looks just like her from afar. Up close, not so much. I thought it was hilarious how many random fans thought she was really Stevie though.

BTW...another highlight from AHI 2000 was Lindsey being there. He was incredible. Acoustic Gypsy was the best thing that had happened since the Enchanted tour! I cannot understand why they have never done that again. :( His whole speech, about his family coming to Arizona and then coming to visit Stevie's parents....so sweet.

I didn't buy the 'oh, we're BFFs' at all, and I think that it was all cleverly arranged to garner more attention, because you're right, you don't hear anything about them at all anymore.

But it's not fair to put all the blame on Sheryl and say she didn't do anything after that. She released an album, she toured, just like Stevie did. They both just went their separate ways after the TISL era.

I think they were friends and still are. I think their friendship was just way more visible then because the working aspect was in the public light. We really never hear about Stevie's friends outside of her work do we? So, for all we know, they could have dinner or lunch on a regular basis. It is not like the press is following either one of them to any significant degree. So, unless they went to The Ivy in LA or some other place to be seen, it is likely it would go unnoticed.

They were all over each other's stuff, and then their names aren't linked to each other for years in a row. And there's Stevie telling Jim in 2005 that they hadn't seen each other in quite some time and that Stevie emailed her but hadn't gotten a reply. She acted somewhat condescending towards Sheryl's 'bicycle world' involvement.

You seem to know little or nothing about Stevie and FM from any relevant historical perspective. This site (www.fleetwoodmac.net) has a wealth of information on it. A little research likely would allow you to become more informed. Also, a good of "stevie nicks" and then "fleetwood mac" on youtube likely would also inform you of interviews as the like.

Yeh the lips and eyebrows are throwing me off ~ I've never seen Stevie's eyebrows this skinny and arched and Stevie's lips are much more beautiful~ though the eye makeup is dead on~ and Stevie does have a heart shaped chin that sometimes looks like that in photos~ but why the hell would she be getting her picture taken by a makeup artist in what looks like her coming out of a bathroom stall!!!! Its so off guard it seems like it wasn't on purpose and they caught her w/ her eyes closed~ but I'm still not sure as to say I definetly think its her!

I did also think Stevie's friendship with Sheryl was genuine, but agree with Vanessa that it may have appeared to be more than it was, but I still think it was there and still is. I did notice and think to myself that it seemed that Sheryl and Stevie's personalities wouldn't really allow them to be BFFs really. I think like Vanessa said, they both helped each other in various ways as is routine in showbiz when 2 stars need that little something extra. but I, in no way, think Sheryl took advantage of Stevie or the situation.

not every backstage dressing room is full of lace and velvet. this isn't necessarily a bathroom. I think people got that impression because it was said that was toilet paper when, in fact, it's the industrial-type paper towels you see in the background. you should see what some dressing rooms I have to use look like. but, I'll spare you.

I understand that now because its been clarified. Jim could have just as easily been the name of someone who posts on here and had the opportunity to ask Stevie about it.

I have no issue when someone tries to point me in the right direction, I have a problem when someone I barley know claims that I have no knowledge on something that I know a great deal about. Its just unbelievable to me.

Yikes indeed. Can you imagine people on this board calling in? "Why'd you and Rupert Hine break it off?" "Why don't you do Sister Honey live?" "When are you going to release If You Were My Love?" :laugh:Heh, I can already tell you what she'd answer:

"Why'd you and Rupert Hine break it off?"
Every time he walked in it felt like the room was on fire. But then something happened that made it impossible for us to ever be together.

"Why don't you do Sister Honey live?"
Which one is that?

"When are you going to release If You Were My Love?"
Someone stole my demos and that really pisses me off, because if they had just asked, I would have given them, no questions asked. But now the entire world has already heard these songs and I feel strongly about people hearing my songs before they are finished. The whole thing is very disenchanting. I'm sorry, what was the question again?

"When was the most recent time you and Lindsey were intimate?"
Lindsey and I will always have that love/hate relationship. We don't socialize outside of work, but our entire history comes back to bite us on the ass when we get together. When we are on stage together we get to be in love, and that's really sweet. I wouldn't let him touch me with a ten-foot pole off stage.

"I just have to ask, did you ever bang Waddy?"
Waddy is the man of my dreams, the love of my life. He once told me that if anyone falls in love, it will be one of us.

Heh, I can already tell you what she'd answer:

"Why'd you and Rupert Hine break it off?"
Every time he walked in it felt like the room was on fire. But then something happened that made it impossible for us to ever be together.

"Why don't you do Sister Honey live?"
Which one is that?

"When are you going to release If You Were My Love?"
Someone stole my demos and that really pisses me off, because if they had just asked, I would have given them, no questions asked. But now the entire world has already heard these songs and I feel strongly about people hearing my songs before they are finished. The whole thing is very disenchanting. I'm sorry, what was the question again?

Anyway you could post the boot? I'd really love that.

As for Sheryl, I cannot STAND her now. I hated that she basically rode Stevie for a year and then wrote her off when she got her spot in Stevie's limelight. Skank.

I'm sorry, I just don't have the time to do that right now. :sorry: Maybe someone else does, or maybe I can get to it when I have a free evening, but I don't want to make a promise I can't keep.

And Sheryl rode Stevie? Sheryl was a HUGE star in her own right by 2001, she did not need Stevie to help her out. If anything, Sheryl helped Stevie. Yes, Stevie's a legend to most of us, but her solo career was still practically non-existent at that point & she was considered a has-been, if not a joke, by much of the general public, despite the success of The Dance.

Now, right after The Dance when Enchanted came out, things started to change. But a really huge turning point in the public's perception of Stevie happened during the TISL era - hanging out with/playing with/recording with Sheryl was a huge help for her commercially, and for getting her back onto the general public's radar. Sheryl was the one talking her up on awards shows & in interviews, calling her a legend & and inspiration. It made her relevant to a new generation of fans.

Now as far as their friendship - I think they are friends who are no longer that close. I do think their friendship in the TISL era was real, but I do think they grew apart a bit (esp. during Sheryl's relationship with Lance.) How could they not? They weren't working together & spending as much time together as they had been, and Sheryl got herself a man. :D Now she got herself a baby, so less time to hang w/ Stevie. it is what it is, people's lives change. I don't think there was any big blow out or anything, or that it means they were pretending to be friends in the first place.

not every backstage dressing room is full of lace and velvet. this isn't necessarily a bathroom. I think people got that impression because it was said that was toilet paper when, in fact, it's the industrial-type paper towels you see in the background. you should see what some dressing rooms I have to use look like. but, I'll spare you.

NOW THATS WHAT IM SAYIN'! I believe the REAL debate here is really NOT whether or not it is Stevie, but whether or not it is in fact toilet paper. and it is not.
.......I may have to start a new thread with a Poll.

Thats incredible. What were your other highlights?

I pressed the rose that they gave me at the door when I came in. I still have it.
I could see her mom and Aunt Carmal sitting off stage to the right. They looked so cute.
The place went wild when she introduced Lindsey. It was quite a moment.
I just about flipped when I realized she was going to sing with Sheryl on some of my favorite Sheryl songs.
The Henley part of the show wasn't really a big deal for me but I do think it was the first time I witnessed them singing Leather and Lace live together.
I came away from the show a a real fan of Chris Isaak. Solitary Man was great. Chris Isaak was funny as hell.
It was the first time I had seen her perform with Waddy in a long, long time. I was very excited about that.

If it wasn't for Sheryl, TISL might not have gotten made and the tour... :distress:
For some reason, Stevie's confidence in her career at the point was really faltering. I think Sheryl was a big source of support for her then. Things could be very different now if it weren't for that friendship.

Just because I don't know who this "Jim" is

He's talking about Jim Ladd, the consummate Stevie interviewer. They go back probably 30 years or more.

Obviously you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I can assure you I've seen every YouTube video you have, heard every album, song, bootleg, read every article, talked about every topic you have. Just because I don't know who this "Jim" is doesn't mean I know little about Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac.

So how about you investigate your remarks before you make them, (just a suggestion of course.)

I doubt you have heard ever song, considering your policy about listening to any unreleased music. For those uninformed, Liam wants to tell Stevie that he has never, ever listened to an unreleased track...he only listens to live BOOTS. Any demos or unreleased songs are off limits.

Also, if you do not know who Jim is, you have obviously never listened to all Stevie's interviews either.

Posting the AHI 2000 boot would be tough, considering it is a dvd. Trading is always good.

Is he expecting her to give him a medal?

Sadly I cannot find his exact thoughts on the matter to post. They were on Seven Wonders, which has bit the dust. If I remember correctly, he said he thought it would be a "neat story" to tell La Nicks one day. That he never listened to anything unreleased. You know my thoughts on the matter. Stevie could give two shits. :wavey:

BTW...I agree that Stevie and Sheryl's friendship was played up a bit. Of course I think they got along and enjoyed each other's company. However, they have not done one thing together since TISL. Stevie has not appeared at any of SC's benefit concerts etc. Methinks they went their separate ways. Stevie basically confirmed this in her interview with JIM anyway. (She emailed a "hello" to SC and had not heard back...hardly sounds like they are lunching every week to me)

Can't argue with that. And even if I don't meet Stevie, I get satisfaction knowing that I'm doing something that she would appreciate.

Once again, I explained that the way "Jim" was put out there it could've just as easily been someone who posts here and had the opportunity to ask Stevie the question.

I hate trading. Too much money, to big a hassle.

Sorry to break in and not read all 11 pages of this thread...but I vote Celine Dion....she'd be diva enough to litter the parking lot with her visage.... or someone trying to channel Celine...

No way...this is defintely Stevie. I think someone was lucky enough to stumble across a random polaroid of Stevie backstage before one of her shows in a Frye's parking lot. Most likely taken as a visual reference for her make-up artist.

Oh, and the 2000 AHI show (which, sadly, is the only one I have attended), was SO amazing. Difficult Kind with Sheryl was one of my favorite moments of the night, along with acoustic Gypsy with Lindsey. I have this show on video, so there is a video out there somewhere.

You don't mean you think this photograph IS of Celine Dion, do you?
Last time I looked, Celine had a large nose, and didn't even remotely
resemble Stevie Nicks (or this photo), so I am assuming you mean
