Noticed this in the August 9 edition of the Australian Sun Herald newspaper:

Dear Hit,
I went to see Stevie Nicks in concert in Melbourne a little while ago and absolutely loved it. It was filmed and was going to be released on DVD. Do you know the release date because it has been some time since the concert?
Grahame

The concert was recorded for sound only. The cameras were used for the in-house screens only. Stevie loved the sound so much that night two live songs - Landslide and Edge Of Seventeen - appear on her new compilation album Crystal Visions - Ed

I guess this definitely puts paid to the idea of a dvd release. A shame but just as I expected.

Well maybe she will release another DVD...I mean the last one was in 1986...I think we all need to email Warner :)

I pretty much new it wasn't filmed the night the concert happened... No reports of cameras filming (in the traditional sense when a concert is being filmed)... and with the takes at the end of the first two songs without changing back into what she was wearing at the begining of the show - well that right there indicates it was for audio purposes...

Missed opportunity... But you never know, the other tracks might show up sometime.

Hey Eric!!!

I think she should do a live compilation-from over the years-on different tours with different musicians-That's the only thing that she doesn't have in her solo career. I can only wish...................:(

Another missed opportunity, indeed. The irony of all this is that the concert DVD was promoted in newspaper articles and more specifically the promo posters! At least, we have the fan video.

I think that would be cool as well...but we all know that every show is recorded...I don't know why she just doesn't put them out. It isn't like she ever messes her words up. She is so routine how could she?

hi all...well i have the bootleg of that show done very professionally and i must say i'm kind of glad stevie didn't record it...i'm referring to the closed eyes thru a lot of the show...i believe i brought this up b4 when someone said it looked like stevie was stoned...not...the lighting was too bright and maybe she wasn't on top of her game but def no drugs...i think she def has the material to put out a completely live cd and this might be what she was referring to earlier on this year...take care...pat

It would be great to have a big double disc cd of Stevie live, represented throughout her entire solo career. But what a daunting task, especially given all the different incarnations of bands she's had. A lot her staple concert songs have been given different treatments and arrangements from different musicians in different periods of time. It would be tough to choose the best rendition of each song.

It's too bad her management team is so insular.... and so unimaginative. Lots of bands sometimes like to engage and involve the fans (through website poles and such) to help determine the choices. That is a smart move, because more often than not, the fans are more knowledgable about an artists' career history than the artists themselves!

Why anyone would want that show on DVD is a mystery to me. It was byfar one of her worst Gold Dust shows. She barely moved.

She was totally stoned.

I would like to know how her lighting could suddenly be too bright, when she brings her own damn lighting to every show! Along with the same lighting crew. Her spotlights do not change, so that is not why her eyes were so damn heavy.

She was plowed. It could not be more obvious when watching the Melbourne boot. My husband had one of the screen caps from that show, as his desktop wallpaper for awhile. He has no interest in Stevie, and when I asked him why he was using her photo he said "Because she is looks pretty hot. Pretty hot and pretty baked".

Mamma Nicks loves her wack weedus!

I did not think the concert was too bad per se. I just think she totally underutilized the symphony, which was a tragedy. I mean - hello would it have killed her to sing At Last or put the symphony squarely into B&B?

I actually think this was around the time Stevie trialled botox and this may explain her slightly peculiar appearance at certain intervals during the show. Even some newspaper reviews at the time referred to her "enhanced, ageless" visage. She has since spoken negatively about her botox experience so who knows?

oh how right you are. ITA.

if I had a penny for every missed opportunity, I'd be a gazillionaire. with the right management, etc. Stevie's career, post-The Dance, could have been off the map.

I kinda thought this Melbourne show was a little subpar as well. a better idea would have been to release a DVD compiling her best performances from her initial Caesar's Palace stint.

I think the concert was good vocally, especially during Beautiful Child, Edge, and Rock and Roll. As for Stevie "just standing there," is that really a surprise? That's kind of Stevie's thing to stand more or less at the mic and sing. She does her usual shtick during Gold Dust and Stand Back. Were you expecting Beyonce?

As for looking stoned, I doubt she was given everything she's said about performing onstage under the influence again. It should be noted that the stage was a lot of brighter because of the MSO. There were clearly more lights to cover all those bodies. Her eyes look most closed when they are performing with her, so I tend to think the "stoned" appearance had to do with the lighting.

Many of the video segments are on youtube - so, if you are curious, check them out and judge for yourself. Personally, I think her eye makeup was way too heavy for that lighting and she looks old and tired. Anyone who has been onstage knows lighting is everything.

It is quite thick!

It happens to her at times. I remember one of the GD tour concerts I went to and it looked like they drew her brows on the crown of her head  Seriously, she is aging, albeit gravefully, and there is only so much that make up can do to hide that. Who knows, maybe her regular make up person couldn't make it down under and someone new did it.

In any event and no matter what they say, that video was shot for way more than sound purposes. For goodness sake it is segmented and edited with close ups

Nope. See post #5 in this thread by the maintainer of the site on which those clips were uploaded. Anyway, always found it particularly odd the tickets mentioned filming for a DVD release.

I do not believe them. I base my conclusion on the very good quality of these videos. I could be wrong, but I doubt it :D

Why would they have put graphic announcements for each song? That takes editing as does the multiple camera shots - and costs money for something that was just for sound

Just to clarify, this is a fan-recorded video. I added the titles myself. The fan who shot the video was indeed in the nosebleeds and filmed from that view until they started to show the concert on the monitors above. At that point, the filmer pointed his camera at the monitors. It appears to be a pro-shot video because of the filter that the guy used, but it's actually a fan bootleg from beginning to end.

Stevie Nicks Australian Tour Announced
Featuring concerts with the MSO and John Farham!
Stevie Nicks, one of the most enduring, influential and loved female artists in rock'n'roll history, is bringing her solo concert tour 'Gold Dust' to Australia in February next year.
Nicks and her red-hot nine-piece band led by guitar virtuoso Waddy Watchel will perform her greatest hits from Fleetwood Mac and her incredible solo career. And in addition, the tour will feature some very special concerts.
The first is at Rod Laver Arena on February 18 where Nicks will be accompanied by the wonderful Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in a magical night to be filmed for a DVD. The marriage of Nicks' songs with full orchestral backing promises to be an incredible experience. She is thrilled to be working with the world-renowned MSO and has five days of rehearsals planned to ensure the concert – and the resulting DVD – will be one of the highlights of her illustrious career.
And in what is set to be a highlight of the summer concert calendar, Stevie's concerts in Brisbane and Perth will be double headers featuring Australia's most popular performer John Farnham! The two musical legends jumped at the chance to share a bill, Nicks having recently played with Eagle Don Henley in the US, as Farnham did with Tom Jones earlier this year. They will continue to New Zealand for three further shows together.
And to complete a very special 'Gold Dust' tour, American songstress Vanessa Carlton will be the special guest for all shows.
Nicks will be in Melbourne for a week from Monday October 31 to launch the tour and to attend the Melbourne Cup Carnival as a guest of promoter Andrew McManus. She was last in Australia out front of Fleetwood Mac on their February 2004 Australian tour.
Anyone who saw those shows can affirm Nicks was simply extraordinary, unquestionably still a vital and mesmerizing performer. Or as one US critic so aptly put it recently: "At a time when the women of pop music are too often stripper wannabes lip-synching to a song someone else wrote, Nicks' classy and commanding presence felt like a revelation".
The 'Gold Dust' tour had its beginnings earlier this year when Nicks received as invitation from friend Eagle Don Henley for a series of ten double-header shows. Nicks had such a good time, she decided to continue on her own playing a further 23 concerts through the US summer. And the US critics raved….
"One of the most magical rock shows in a long time" (Hollywood Reporter)
"Nicks gave fans what they came for and also showed why she is one of rock's great female icons, willing to both revel in her past and show she is a spirited contemporary singer." (Cincinatti Post)
"Truth be told, Nicks could have simply come out to the microphone, raised her arms and spun into her signature twirl and the crowd would have been satisfied. She offered so much more. Nicks is as strong vocally as ever and her recent reunion with Fleetwood Mac has seemed to reinvigorate her passion for performing." (The Republican)
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in January 1975. With her sultry good looks and gypsy-like appearance, she helped create 1977's classic multi-Grammy award-winning "Rumours," penning songs such as 'Rhiannon', 'Dreams' and 'Landslide' amongst others. The band went on to sell well over 50 million albums.
In 1981 she released her first solo album 'Bella Donna' which achieved five-times platinum status. Several successful solo albums followed yielding hits like 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around' (with Tom Petty), 'Stand Back', 'Talk to Me', 'Edge of Seventeen', 'White Wing Dove', 'If Anyone Falls', 'I Can't Wait', 'Every Day' and 'Leather and Lace' (with Don Henley).
Fleetwood Mac reformed for 2004's 'Say You Will' album and world tour to phenomenal success, including a triumphant Australian tour seen by more than120,00 people. Nicks' last solo album 2001's 'Trouble In Shangri-La' featured friends Sheryl Crow, Macy Gray, Sarah McLachlan and Natalie Maines, whoseband The Dixie Chicks went on to have a huge hit with a cover of 'Landslide'. She retains a large army of devoted fans of all ages.
Like Nicks, John Farnham is one of the most awarded and popular artists of his generation, with a spectacular career spanning almost four decades. During that time, his live performances have always thrilled audiences, whether it is solo or sharing the stage with artists such as Olivia Newton-John and most recently, Tom Jones.
Farnham listened to more than 150 Australian songs before recording "I Remember When I Was Young: Songs From The Great Australian Songbook", and has brought new life to timeless tracks like Ross Wilson's 'Come Back Again', James Reyne's 'Reckless', Richard Clapton's 'Girls On The Avenue' and more. It is a wonderfully memorable album, which Farnham can't wait to perform live.
Continuing on from the US tour, Nicks is proud to introduce young performer Vanessa Carlton on the 'Gold Dust' tour in Australia. A then 19-year old Carlton enjoyed a multi-platinum debut album 'Be Not Nobody' and a #1 US and #1 Australian smash with 'A Thousand Miles'. Her gorgeous vocals also featured on the Counting Crows #1 hit "Big Yellow Taxi".
The classically trained musician is highly regarded for her riveting performances solo on the piano. This will be her first visit to Australia.
Don't miss the extraordinary Stevie Nicks on this very special Australian tour.
