I was listening to the Little Steven(s?) show on the local classic rock radio station tonight and heard some woman singing "Sorcerer." The chorus was the same, but I noticed that the verses had some different lyrics here and there. I can't really "date" it at all -- not sure if it's relatively new or older. I want to say that I've heard before where someone else (Sandy Stewart maybe?) recorded it years ago, so maybe this is the version I heard. Does that sound right at all, or am I confusing it with some other demo that was recorded first by another artist then released years later by Stevie?

Anyway, it was interesting and came as a surprise to hear it on the radio. Not a bad cover at all either. Anyone know who this might have been?

Thanks,

Brad

Marilyn Martin sang Sorcerer and it was on the Streets of Fire soundtrack from 1984.

And, La Nicks is singing background vocals on it. You can hear her mostly at the end.

I LOVE that version, and that is still one of my favourite "haunting" Stevie vocals of all time!

I agree. Stevie seems to give some of her best vocals when she's not singing lead. like on the Cat Dancer album.

Oh, I know, I love those cuts too.
I love her vocals on Marilyn's "Sorcerer" better than even on her own version, LOL. And I ADORE the vocals on "I Pretend" off "Cat Dancer", OMFG...flawless!

I always loved that cover. It had a lot of that early '80s Wild Heartish power, mostly from Stevie & her demoniacal song. It was sort of a bummer that they made it all Jim Steinmanlike with all that crashing anthemic noise, but Stevie's witchy backups come totally through & make you strain close to the speaker to hear every bit. I don't think Marilyn, who played Stevie's concerts on the West Coast, ever went back to Joe Walsh after that. She struck out on her own, with not much luck.

Ah, there we go. Thanks a lot for the info, everyone! And I thought I heard Stevie in the background towards the end. I might have to look this up on Itunes and see if it's around.

Thanks again!

I still LOVE the Seperate Lives vocal Marilyn did with Phil Collins!
