During a very recent trip, I picked up a couple of things for light reading. Lo & behold, two Stevie mentions discovered in one hour.

In former pro player Bill Scanlon's book, Bad News for McEnroe, the author relates thie following story on p. 44:

"In early 1981, I played Mac [John McEnroe] in Los Angeles at the L.A. Tennis Club. My guest for the semifinal night match was Irving Azoff, megamusic manager of the Eagles and various other superstars. I was staying at Irving's home in Beverly Hills with his wife, Shelli, and their toddlers, Jennifer and Allison. The Azoffs and I had spent great times together as they traveled with me to tournaments in Maui, Las Vegas, and New York City.

"McEnroe and I were, to put it nicely, less than civil to each other at that time and Irving loved to stir up the rivalry. No stranger to conflict, he would goad me on and encourage me to have fun with the battle. Our match in Los Angeles would make Irving very proud.

" During one of the changeovers, Mac and I reached the net-post at the same time, heads down and walking purposefully. Neither of us gave ground, and we collided almost head-on right in front of the umpire's chair. The crowd howled, and above it all I could hear Irving shrieking with laughter.

"I didn't win that match, but later that night when we went to a recording studio for Stevie Nicks's recording session, Irving must have told the story a dozen times, each more exaggerated than the last."

Also, in the current issue of Tennis magazine, there is a lengthy article on the Huggy Bears Invitational. It mentions that Stevie was a performer there in recent years, and there is a pic of her clutching Don Henley's arm from behind.

Ahhh, Stevie Nicks, sports icon. She's not just for Australian horse races anymore. :D ;)
