I'm having a spot of trouble.

I can't seem to find CDs featuring the originally released studio versions of

Someone's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonite
World In Harmony
The Purple Dancer

Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi there,

"World In Harmony" and "Purple Dancer" are a bit tricky.. I guess you have to look for vinyl to get those (or somebody could make you a bootleg).
I have the original single version of "Someone's..." on a 3CD box set called "Fleetwood Mac - The Blues Years" (blue cover with an albatross pictured). I suppose it could be found elsewhere too.. Of course, the full length version is on "Vaudeville Years", but I'm sure you already knew that.

I'm not sure that any of those have been released on CD. The "full-length" version of "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonite" is on the Vaudeville Years set, but it's not the original B-side (it's identical except it's got an additional 20 seconds tacked on at the end). "World In Harmony" and "The Purple Dancer" were both on a mid-'70s German LP called "The Best of Fleetwood Mac" but I don't believe that was ever released on CD:

Forgot about the "Blues Years" set, Dansven! A quick check shows that GEMM has a copy available, but it ain't cheap:

EDIT: ....never mind...my post was going to be redundancy at it's most obvious. THere weren't any replies when I first started to post, but got sidetracked and the other two said exactly what I was going to say, in the meantime.

You could buy two very good versions of "The Purple Dancer" (one live-in-studio and the other live) from the Madison Blues box set.

I noticed it was on there. I wasn't sure which version it was. I take it the live-in-studio isn't what was on the B-side of Dragonfly.

I have also found that there's an edition of The Original on Amazon with Head Kicked In as an extra track. But as I'm already wanting to get the BH remaster with One Sunny Day and Without You I don't really fancy buying two versions of the same album.

That's the same version that is on Vaudville Years

I have both World In Harmony and Purple Dancer as mp3s.. give me a little while to get my act together and I'll post them. They are straight from the vinyl singles, so quality is good but not CD quality. I'm 99.9% sure that neither have shown up on CD, although there are the fine alternative versions on Vaudeville Years / Show-Biz Blues (WIH) and Madison Blues (PD) :)

You are correct. The live-in-studio version of PD is not the same as the B-side...but it's virtually identical, and just as impressive. The live one is also interesting and well sung and played.

There's also the version of "The Purple Dancer" on the 2/71 bootleg of the Swing Auditorium show in San Bernardino, the first show the band did after Jeremy Spencer left. Christine McVie sings Jeremy's vocal parts on that version. This recording has been available for download in the past, don't know whether it still is:

And FWIW, my favorite version of "World In Harmony" is the live one from the Tea Party Club in Boston in 2/70 that somehow didn't make it onto the remastered Live In Boston discs from Snapper. I posted about that a few months ago, and I'm sure there are still plenty of those older Tea Party live discs available that have that version on them:

I totally agree with you on this. I think this version is better than the studio one.

Contrary to the above post, I've managed to get them onto my computer and played both in iTunes. I was surprised WIH was an instrumental but I have to admit that I expected TPD to be dreamy and hippyish like Dragonfly.

Many thanks once again. Dare I ask if you've got Head Kicked In?

I think WIH is one of Mac's nicer instrumentals.. I heard that Danny wrote the main part and Peter contributed the solo. And funny you say that because when I bought the Dragonfly single (solely to hear TPD), I expected TPD to be a swirly, dreamy thing that could've fitted on "Future Games" but instead there's this "Kiln House" type affair with the two separate vocals. Interesting song though :)

And I do have Head Kicked In.. it might be a day or two, but I'll post it unless someone else does.

"Purple Dancer" is very much one of those "transitional" songs that would've fit on either Kiln House or Future Games. It kind of gave us a peek at where Fleetwood Mac was headed. And, actually, now that I think about it, was "Dragonfly", as well.

Head Kicked In?

"Somebody's Gonna Get (Their Head Kicked In Tonite)", credited to "Earl Vince & The Valiants", the B-side to the UK "Man Of The World" single.

It's a hilarious Jeremy 50s pastiche - think "Punk Elvis".

It's available as a bonus track on the current release of The Original Fleetwood Mac compilation.

It was covered by a US punk band called The Revillos. I know nothing about this band other than they covered this song.

My first time doing something like this...so here's hoping it works.

(If it doesn't, then we are both S.O.L. and it's back to the drawing board.)

I loved this song! Do more Jeremy/Elvis impersonation songs exist? Would someone be so kind to name them and tell me how to find them?

I am reading the Leah Furman book on FM and she refers to Jeremy's impersonations of Elvis and ? (a name that escapes me right now.)

There are a few where he does a great Elvis, especially some of the live sets like the Madison Blues 2CD box. There's also a fun version of "Don't Be Cruel" on Show-Biz Blues :)

He also did Buddy Holly songs, and stuff by Fabian - "Tiger" is on one of the Live in Boston CDs, I believe that's a Fabian song. Maybe Jeremy could post here and tell us what else he remembers doing on the Elvis front!

Not necessarily Elvis, but certainly some great loving rock'n'roll pastiches.

There's Mighty Cold which is on the current Original Fleetwood Mac CD, and You Made A Hit from the Jeremy Spencer album, and was also one of the two JS album tracks on the CD that came with Mick's photo book (both incorrectly credited as unreleased FM tracks).

There'll be plenty of others that more experienced folk know about like the ones bretonbanquet mention.

The b-side version of "...Kicked In..." was released on CD in the late '80s on "Fleetwood Mac: The Collection" from Castle Records. IMO, that CD has the best CD mix of "Man Of The World," too. It (actually the cassette tape) was my intro to the Blue Horizon and Immediate stuff.
