I was on my way to the record store yesterday and a song by an artist called Brandi Carlile came on KFOG, a radio station out here.I had never heard her before but right away I thought awesome voice so when I got to the store I bought her new CD "The Story" and listened to it .I was enjoying it quite a bit when a song came on that really caught my attention .It sounded like early 1980s Stevie Nicks .It could have been on BD or TWH just everything about it including the great vocal really jumped out at me as being so Nicksian .The song is called "Losing Heart ".Anyone have any other songs/artists that they feel that way about?

Not really, although I occasionally hear someone that reminds me of her for a second. But now I want to get the girl you are talking about, for sure. :p

Okay, good. I'm kinda pissed off that her name is "Brandi" with an i, but if she has a great Nicksian voice, she can be named Assface for all I care. :wavey:

 It's really on that one song "Losing Heart' that she totally channels La Nicks on other songs she sounds different but very gifted no doubt.

haha, I was trying to make you laugh. Still sounds like a good album. You know, "worth getting" and all that.
Edit: I just saw Jaz's "what songs are on my thingy or whatever" in his sig, and he had one by her.

No songs come to mind but for years I've thought that at her best (like in '70s Rhiannon performances) Stevie is something of a cross between Janis Joplin and Loreena McKennit.

Brandi is AWESOME!! I went to two of her shows and have both her cd's. If you ever get a chance to see her live it's well worth it. Tickets were only 18 bucks! :]

I love Brandi Carlile, but I never once thought The Story sounded Stevie-ish. With her playing her own guitar live on stage and the way she sings reminds me more of Melissa Etheridge. Stevie is kind of in her own league, all by herself. I can't think of anyone that I would compare her to.

The first time I heard of this woman is when her video was played at the end of a Grey's Anatomy episode this past season. It appears her songs were played more than once on Grey's. She is really good in my opinion. Haven't heard "Losing Heart" yet but am interested to hear a Nicksian resemblance.

The song The Story doesn't sound like Stevie to me either but track 8 on the album sounds to me like it could have come right off of The Wild Heart maybe it's just me:shrug: but great find nonetheless I went out and bought her first CD as well.

How about Fajita Roundup with Lucy Lawless?
I had to throw that one out there.

I agree with Vanessa, but, in any event, this woman is amazing. I'm just getting into her and this song is why...

There's a Coldplay song on XandY where the intro sounds like a Stevie song. I can't think of what it's called, but it's a good album.

I didn't even really think of La Nicks until the song "Losing Heart" 8 songs in where the influence was very obvious to me.The girl has an awesome ability to switch keys on a dime. I really hope her career esculates ..We need a great young woman rock star who really has the goods.

After a lot of thinking, I've come to the conclusion that there is NO One in this Universe who even comes close in my opinion to Stevie. And I think the reason why is that there may be a little part of something that slightly reminds me of her in someone, but then there will be something major that just blows it, like they'll throw out a Sarah Mcglachlan howl or I'll hear something, than see the real being on T.V with a Melissa Etheridge like masculinity thrown in or something~ Something always ruins it! Like this girl in the video thats been posted is great~ I like her and she has a little scratchy thing going on with her voice but she's kinda grundgy with her jeans. And any woman who's actually playing the guitar like they're on a mission ( she IS good) but this is just not Stevie to me~ a person like Stevie needs to have a little more femininity, and littleness, and cuteness, and in a magic way! Stevie's a hard one to follow! She 's just too unique voice ~wise, lyric~wise,
dress style~wise, and performance~wise.
"Once in a billion years~ a lady like her rises"~
Jenni
If I had to choose cause I'd be shot or something~
Sometimes Natalie Merchant reminds me of Stevie performance wise cause she can be bewitching~ and mysterious and passionate, and the lead singer of the band The Sundays always had a cute sheepish little voice like a young Stevie~ but she's got this English accent thing going on! Its always Something!

^^^um...reminds, not totally exactly mimics. That ~ as we all realize ~ is impossible. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When~did~Stevie~say~"billion years"?~I~don't~recall~that~lyric.
The girl has an awesome ability to switch keys on a dime.
That is the quality in her voice that initial struck me as something she and Stevie have (had?) in common. Actually, Stevie can still do it, just within a way smaller range. This lady still has all her pipes, a la old Stevie.

Probably the song "Caroline" by Concrete Blonde. Johnette Napolitano is as haunting as Stevie is, especially in her lyrics and voice.
Gotta love the "hauntedness"!

I'd have to say These Dreams right off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others, but it's so her and it was offered to her.
