So, currently I am kind of on a Street Angel fix... Don't ask me why....

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to have a full on discussion on this album. Love it or hate it, good musically, poor musically, all that good stuff.

Personally I love the album. Aside from Timespace, it was the first Stevie album I got, so I guess that is why it has a special place in my heart for this album.

Can't really give you a personal fave at the moment, but I think for Stevie, the chord progression os Street Angel is very unique for her.

So, discuss to your little, or should I say Wild Heart's content.

Much Love,
Ethan

I personally love Street Angel; always have. I hate that people regard it as something that should be burned. I heard someone once say "It never goes in my cd player."

Seriously. I have met fans who say they are embarrassed or ashamed to admit that they enjoy the record or even a few songs on it ;) Pesonally, my favorite time of Stevie, vocally, began with TOSOTM and continued with SA. I love her voice on both those albums. Regarding SA, I LOVE "Kick It", "Maybe Love" and "Listen to the Rain". I enjoy all the other songs, those are simply my faves. Now regarding the Japanese Vesion of SA..."God's Garden" and "Inspiration"....forget it! Those are masterpieces!!!

The highs are very high and the lows are just completely forgettable -- like all of Stevie's work.
I must say I think it's quite a unique album and I like it for that.

ON EDIT: Eep, I don't mean that all of Stevie's work is completely forgettable! *hyperventilating!* I mean that the high-low pattern seems to be present throughout her work. Sorry! :p

Sorry, it's funny because it's so true that a mistake like that would be completely attacked.

After a cut-out of "Behind the Mask" was my 1st FM album, "Street Angel" became my first Stevie record, but the 1st time I listened to it in a shop, I let it stay there, and only picked it up later. It's not a record that jumps at you immediately. It needs some time to sink in. My top three songs from the album would be "Docklands" on #3, "Rose Garden" on #2 and Gretta on #1, with Maybe Love, Blue Denim and Kick It following in no particular order.
I think the record is well produced, and it was a bit hard to understand for me what I first read about on this board here: Stevie removing initial producer Glyn Johns from his initial task. Soundwise, I prefer "Street Angel" over "Trouble in Shangri-La", well maybe with the exception of the sole David Kahne-produced track Love Changes from that album, which is definitely one of her career highlights. The Nicks/Panunzio/bits and pieces of Johns production sounds so much better to me than the John Shanks production of TISL with its electroacoustic guitars and protoolery.

I am a (Sorta New, 2003) FM fan, so I am just finishing up their collection. The only Stevie solo albums I have is BD and TISL. I plan on buying her other albums as soon as I can. With that said, I have heard about four tracks off "Street Angel" on napster and I was surprised. I have always heard bad things about this record but I really liked 3 out of the 4 songs (Rose Garden, Blue Demin and Street Angel) I didn't care much for Destiny on the first listen but I will try to give it another chance. After I get WH and RAL, I'll move on to OSOTM and SA.

Street Angel is so malaigned, even by Stevie herself. I like it for the fact that it is so different from her other albums. The sound of it is much less adorned, and more one dimensional in comparison to her other albums..and that is the appeal for me. It's much more "street" sounding...meaning more straight foward rock.

Perplexingly, the songs she didn't write but chose to record are so average and generic -- Docklands, Maybe Love, Unconditional Love, Inspiration, and God's Garden. Still, I think she did a good cover of Just Like A Woman -- I love hearing her sing the word "amphetamines!"

I was glad to see that Greta was pulled out of the vaults, although the original version/demo had more going for it. My favorites are Blue Denim, Love Is Like A River, Rose Garden and Kick It.

I don't know where my head was at the time, but I managed to miss the tour completely. I have a video of one of her shows, and she sounds great, and her stage set is really cool! She performed four songs from the album -- Blue Demin, Maybe Love, Destiny and Docklands.

Notice how she modifies the lyric in Docklands and never utters the word "laundromat"? lol...too low-ball and far removed from her high lifestyle.

I've said before, but like how she traveled in a bus for this tour, which in some ways gives authenticity to the Street Angel theme. I wish she had played in smaller venues -- essentially getting back down to street level and having a closer connection to her audience. In my head...she opens with Street Angel and then busts into Love Is Like A River.

That would be a very cool and unique way to do it. I really like it.

I'm so glad to see this thread here! I'm a REALLY recent Stevie fan (June/July 06) and The Wild Heart was the first album I got followed by BD/TISL at the same time and a couple weeks ago, Street Angel. I almost bought this one a while back but kept seeing horrible reviews on it so I didn't.

What's wrong with this album? Nothing I can find. My 2 favorites are Blue Denim and Kick it. Partly because of her awesome lyrics and partly cause I just think Mike Campbell adds so much to anything he does with anyone (Too Far From Texas is my fav off TISL :D ).

Honestly, out of the 4 solo albums I have, TISL is my fav and Street Angel is an easy #2...

As with most music I think about the time in my life when it was released...

I was about to move to California with my job after spending my entire life in Colorado. I was very unsure at the what the future had in store... That's what I first think about when I hear SA.

I think the album ROCKS! Not quite all the way through (but which one does?) but for as screwed up as she says she was I think it's great.
Blue Denim rocks, Greta, Just Like a Woman (pulled off the Dylan cover!), Docklands is great. The sound is very different... almost not as produced?

I have been told that I have blue-gray eyes... and they also change colors. I met a woman once that would called me bright eyes after hearing Blue Denim for the first time.

I'm the same way. The name 'Blue Denim' appealed to me just for the sound, then that awesome intro hooked me, but when I heard that she was singing about 'blue-grey eyes that change with the color' that was it for me.

Yes, that intro is soooo catchy. Right now I can't get enough of this album.
