So I got this idea. I would love to have a thread where we all just discuss our thoughts on a sinle song. EVERYTHING about the song. We disect it and analyze and talk about every little detail. What we love, what we hate and all of that good stuff.
I hope you all like this idea, because I think it would be cool to get a general rule of opinion on certain songs, you know what I mean? Just figure out what the majority of Stevie Fans think. Just thought that this would be really cool and I hope you all agree.
So anyway, in this, the first part of the series, we will be discussing the song "Love Is" from Stevie's TISL.
Quite frankly I think this is such a beautiful song and I LUUUUURRRRVE it!!!! It is beautiful. I think that the lyrics are so expressive and they get to me EVERY-TIME I listen to it.

Paula does threads like this, discussing certain Stevie and Mac songs, I don't think she's done Love Is though.
I think Love Is is beautiful, very Stevie, although I wonder if it was originally intended to be a duet. The first verse just feels like a call and response.
I love the production on it, but I think there's a really nice sparser, piano version floating around.

Yeah, I have the piano version somewhere, but I don't think it is on my computer.

Probably the best way would be to search under Paula's profile - her username is skcin and search for threads started by her.
I don't think she did any of the TISL songs though.
And they're worth reading, there's more interesting stuff in those threads!

All TOSOTM album it seems (sorry I got bored linking to them!) and others too
Probably some of the older ones would be worth redoing though, as I didn't realise some of them were so old!

Now back to Love Is. I really love the lyrics to the first verse. The conversational vibe to me is just so beautiful.

I hope so, and NOOO not because I want a popular thread, but because I wasnt to have some meaningful discussions on Stevie's song. I love Stevie and love her songs, and talking about them is great.

I prefer the mid-90s piano demo to the one on TISL, but love it either way :)

I loved this song the first time that I heard it. When I bought TISL when it first came out, it was my favorite song on the album and still is. But I've recently heard the demo version and I love that even more!!!! I love the few extra lines that are in the demo 'knowing that it must be to you like your angels arms'. Absolutely beautiful!!! **I wonder who she's talking about there** But anyway, I think that this is one of my favorite songs that she's written.

Do a thread title search for "like or dislike" in the Stevie forum, they'll all pop up. There's a thread for every song from every solo Stevie album except TISL - just never got around to it. Never did any of the soundtrack or Timespace tunes either.
And I like "Love Is."

Let's get into the meaningful discussion, then. So far it's kind of just "I love it, it's pretty". Which is good, but I get the sense you want to discuss in depth. Which is what we did in Paula's threads.
I think I've given my "Love Is" story before, but for the benefit of the thread. TISL came out when my partner was dying of cancer and some of the songs have a very special connection to me. "Love Is" grabbed me immediately and I came to realize it was because, to me, the song is about reaching a place of intensive love for someone that transcends an actual relationship. Knowing that you can let go of someone and still love them and that nothing will end the purity of the love. I also feel like the song captures the concept of unconditional love, even if the lyrics don't specifically speak to that.
This is one of those songs when Stevie's delivery really capture the emotions she's trying to convey. I "feel" her pain, her love, and her acceptance as she takes us through the song's journey.
The song borders on being overly saccharin, but she stops short. That's what makes it such a stunning performance, in my opinion.
This song is 5 stars and a beautiful album closer.

I like to sing Bonnie Raitt's 1991 classic "I Can't Make You Love Me" to "Love Is". It works, you'll go home and try it.

It's funny...I just put TISL back in my car and started listening to it again and on my way home from work, I just this song on auto replay. I just love this song.....I love that back and forth talking that is going on in this song...you can sense the sadness, yet knowing it's over and done feeling in this song...she's loved and loss......Could this be another Mick song from long ago? She/He doesn't want anyone to find out or tell. I love the haunting back ground vocals by Sarah. I listen to TISL and get so upset they didn't do more with this album.

How weird. I never noticed this thread until now, and I happened to be playing Love Is.
I love this song. A lot. It's deff one of the best on TISL. And it always makes me sad, every time. I guess that's the mark of a effective song.

Really? You missed this week old thread? Thank God it was brought back, then, or you never would have seen it. And that would have been tragic.

Eeep ... don't like this one at all! One of the really low points on TISL ~ the highs are dizzying but the lows (this and That Made Me Stronger being prime examples imho) are desperate. It just bores me, personally -- the ethereal atmosphere and production certainly deserve merit of their own but the lyrics and melody seem to me to be completely out of sync with one another.
Just my €0.02!
