It's that time of year. What do you consider the best films and performances of 2006? Mine are below, although I still haven't seen Notes on a Scandal, so Dame Judi Dench might be added later.

I didn't separate supporting from lead roles.

All in all, a pretty good year for movies, I think.

Movies:

Half Nelson
Last King of Scotland
Le Petit Lieutenant
Quinceanera
Dreamgirls

Performances:

Entire cast of Little Miss Sunshine

Male:

Ryan Gosling, Half Nelson
Forrest Whittaker, Last King of Scotland
Jesse Garcia, Quinceanera
Joseph Cross, Running With Scissors
Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls

Female:

Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls
Annette Bening, Running With Scissors
Jill Clayburgh, Running With Scissors
Phyllis Somerville, Little Children
Shareeka Epps, Half Nelson
Rinko Kikuchi, Babel
Helen Mirren, Queen

Well I'm not sure as my future-sight is broken....in December of 2007, I'll let ya know what I thought of the year's films :p

I'm assuming you meant best of 2006.....

Sadly I didn't see nearly as many movies as I'd hoped to....but there are still many I want to see....

Well since 2007 hasn't happened yet - I don't know.

But for 2006... Blood Diamond was excellent as a film and acted, The Departed was another excellent movie. Flags of our Fathers should get some recognition, it was well done. Haven't seen Clints other flick.

Want to see: Last King of Scotland

Okay, where is my brain? I meant 2006. :o

I don't know how to edit the thread title?

^ I don't either. :sorry: Try to edit your original post & see if it lets you do the title too.

I haven't seen too many current movies this past year. Well, none that thrilled me too much anyway. I will agree on Little Miss Sunshine though.

I'd have to say "Shut Up & Sing" :D It's the only movie, I've ever been to, that the entire audience stood up at the end and applauded

Ah darn..now my horribly bad attempt at humor doesn't work :p

So there's no way for non-mods to change thread titles?

I liked The Departed very much but I thought Di Caprio was brilliant in Blood Diamond.

I've also seen a film called Infamous which is another movie about Truman Capote and his book In cold Blood. It is actually better than last years Capote.

As for female performances, Helen Mirren as the Queen can't be beaten.

How could I have forgotten Helen? Off to edit yet again.

I liked the Departed very much but it didn't quite make my list of top favorites.

Nah, I thought the flub was funny...of course I'll be writing 2006 on everything until, at least, June

I've been thinking about it and I think the only movies I've seen in theaters this years are:

The Devil Wears Prada - I would have probably liked it better had I not read the book days before seeing it. The woman Meryl Streep plays is so much more Devilish in the book - I had very high hopes for Meryl but don't think she pulled it off

World Trade Center - Great film, but I pretty much bawled through the whole thing.

For Your Consideration - I love Christopher Guest and crew - so that was my favorite of the three...

I dont know....I have a button at the top of the thread where I have options for moderating it (Thread Tools). I guess you all don't.

I can't tell about "bests" since I haven't gone to movies often, but

Devil wears Prada was very cool, I liked a lot.

And.. it may be ridiculous, but it was full of entertainment: Snakes on a plane. I really enjoy it. If you want to have fun, action, with no critic eye, this is the movie.

I've not seen WTC yet, but I guess it's very good (and Blood Diamond as I read).

United 93 (was it 2006 or 2005?) was very interesting and touchy, too.

And I'm looking for Almodovar's VOLVER. They said it is very very good too.

Hmmmmm lets see

Little Miss Sunshine - This movie was awesome in every way possible, yet again, anything Steve Carell touches is awesome.

The Descent - Probably the best horror flick of the year.....

Superman - I'm sure this one will get nominated for something, even though I thought it sucked hard.

BORAT- This movie was absolutely hilarious. Even though they are in a sea of lawsuits at the moment, it still was a very FUNNY movie.

Employee of the Month - Jessica Simpson was just phenomenal in this movie. She should be awarded actress of the year. :p (this movie was terrible)

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE is this years SIDEWAYS. It's a great film.

Both Jill Claiborne and Annette Benning were amazing in RUNNING WITH SCISSORS. But I think Helen Mirren was even better in THE QUEEN.

The buzz is that, hands down, Forest Whitaker has the Oscar cinched up for his amazing role in THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND. (I have yet to see the film)

DREAMGIRLS kicked ass and was hugely entertaining.

And while I normally don't go for big action films, I was completely taken with the new James Bond film, CASINO ROYALE. I thought it was fabulous!!

I need to update my "best of" and add Notes Of A Scandal to best movie. Oh my god, what a ride. And this woman on the right is a must for Best Actress. All hail Dame Judi Dench!

I never get to theaters, so I will wait to they come out on DVD to see most of these.

I really want to see Half Nelson, Sherrbaby, Little Children and Little Miss Sunshine!

I liked Superman, I really did and Devil...both were enjoyable.
