So, I don;t own this album, but have a lot of the pre rumours stuff, and I really like Bob Welch's work, so I was wondering if you all thought I should put this on my Christmas list???? What is it like?

Much Love,
Ethan

Don't let the nearly nude image of Mick on the cover scare you.

Let it scare you, but don't let it stop you buying the album :D

It's a great album. Despite there being nothing of the quality of "Hypnotized" on here, I personally think Bob was at his best - "Angel" is a fantastic piece, as is "Coming Home". Christine's songs are all great too - you really see the progression towards her BN-era stuff. And those horns on the title track :p

Basically if you like MTM then you'll like HAHTF, even though they're quite different. What takenbythesky said about the "murkier" sound is spot on - Bob's songs are meaner, if you know what I mean. Why the hell haven't you got it already??!!

  Actually, bop doesn't care for Bob Welch. His favorite members of FM are Christine and Stevie. Because he's a womanizer!!!

Although he does have Mick's sense of humor and style.

I've never seen bop wearing balls. Does he? Outside of the bedroom, I mean?

You should definitely get Heroes. It's the best Welch-era album, in my opinion. "Angel" and "Prove Your Love" are two of my all time favorite songs.

And can someone please explain the whole Bop thing to me?

Bop is love. It all started here (http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=30041), but Carrie and Michelle took it to new heights.

ahem.... back to Heroes....

Heroes is argueably my favorite FM album...... it's "And Then There were Four" You can hear the musicianship of McVie and Welch on this album as they put together a string of dark, jazzy and interesting comp's... This album is anything but Vanilla...

I agree that the musicianship is solid, and the songs--on paper--are great. Everythng should have worked. But there's a weird lack of energy on many of the songs. "Prove Your Love" is an amazing tune and, in any other context, Christine would have hit that vocal right out of the park. But here, she sounds a bit listless and muddled in the mix. She's almost drowned out by drums, horns, and an arp string ensemble on "Come a Little Bit Closer" and, in terms of mixing, she isn't put up front enough on another killer tune, "Bad Loser." She sounds terrific on the title track, but then we have to conted with the cheesey horn track.

Welch's "Bermuda Triangle" and "Angel" are intriguing, but they're miles better on any number of live recordings.

I get annyoed with Heroes because it clearly had the potential to be an amazing, lively record. But most of the band's decisions (right down the cover art) were a series of misfires.

Its probably my favourite Bob Welch track - and "Come A Little Bit Closer" is probably my favourite Christine track as well...

I think you should buy it even though the cover is very ugly and weird lol. Heroes, Bare Trees and MTM are my favorite albums during the 1971-1974 line-ups. I always said MTM came first but I have been listening to Heroes lately and it is moving up there. All of Christine songs are great I esp adore "Prove Your Love" (her voice sounds so beautiful on this song) and "Bad Loser." Bob is great and my favorite tracks from him are "Angel" "Safe Harbour" and "She's Changing Me."

From Mick's opening snare snap of the title track to the major 7th chord ending "Safe Harbour" the album is a listening pleasure. "Silver Heels" took me a while to get into overall, but the "...if I could sing like Paul McCartney, get funky like Etta James..." line captured me from first listen. John McVie's bass playing is phenomenal throughout.
