This past weekend Shane, Ashley, and I all made a sojourn to Las Vegas to see Stevie Nicks play. We left for Sin City on Friday morning to try and catch Stevie's performance that night @ 10:00 PM. After leaving the City of Angels in the mid-morning we finally arrived in Vegas at about 4:30 PM. Unfortunately, it took us about another hour to eventually find our hotel~ the Renaissance. Once we actually found the hotel though an overwhelming feeling of relief spread through myself and I could hardly wait to stretch my 'cricket legs' out as I'd been couped up in a back seat for far too long.
The hotel was really nice although a bit far from the Las Vegas Strip for my tastes. It didn't matter though as I was surrounded by great company and the room had an all glass shower that I immediately swooned over. After a brief rest we decided to head out to get our action ON.....
Our first stop was a Mexican restaurant that a was a tad too expensive for the quality of food they were offering and had an annoying host that kept trying to get us to sing for our drinks. They did have f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c Margaritas though! Once we'd finished our meals we trekked over to the Caesar's Palace Forum where Ms. Nicks was performing. The venue was filled with all types: rednecks (there was a rodeo in town), "the gays", aging hippies, Stevie wanna-be's, and us. Our seats were box seats which made me a very happy lad indeed....plenty of leg room and comfy seats. The only sucky thing was this crap lady sat in the row below our box immediately in front of my seat and her hair managed to obscure my view throughout the show. Stevie put on a magical performance and I'm an absolute convert now (So look for me to start wearing flowing skirts, lots of shawls, and to carry a tambourine at any given moment).
After the show we meandered about the casinos until about 3 AM with Shane losing steam minute by minute. Our last stop was the new 'Wynn' hotel and it is fucking AWESOME. Trees and waterfalls abound! The hotel's decorations were very classy and the land it occupies is absolutely cavernous. We actually got lost trying to escape it's clutches!
Saturday saw us hitting the mall, getting mixed drinks on the strip, visiting white tigers, and hanging out with the birds at the Flamingo's habitat. At nightfall we went to the quasi-famouse Peppermill restaurant that features fake cherry blossoms inside the facility and waitresses wearing evening gowns. Camp chic all the way! After eating we walked to the Venetian and hung out there playing nickel slots until we got bored (i.e. kept losing) and headed back to the Riviera where we had parked prior to dining.
As we were nearing the Riviera we walked past a closed shop where a guy was walking around with a hand gun exposed. All three of us have speculated that he was robbing the establishment but we really don't know. What I do know is that to me.... gun = run..... and that's exactly what we did. We hauled our butts to the car quicker than you could say "Cher impersonator".
With that last bit of adventure our time in Vegas was over. We eventually made it back to Los Angeles on Sunday around 5-ish in the evening. I am now feeling blue that our trip is over but am in more of a festive mood as every single casino was decked out in Christmas decorations with Christmas music BLARING at every turn!! Now I just need to get thru my 31st birthday.........................
You can see some of my pictures here if you're at all curious (although I've already posted some as myspace icons):
