Over and above the fact that Stevie doesn't really change up her setlists too drastically from tour to tour, I really wouldn't expect anything out of the usual in Vegas -- she's going to stick very closely to radio favorites/greatest hits type songs.
Thanks for sharing the setlist play-by-play with us. :xoxo:

I don't think that's necessarily true.
or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying. I think most people in Vegas actually love Stevie.
but what would get you excited? what is it that everyone wants? she's not going to pull out Storms or TTM, etc. it is what it is.

I have never seen How Still My Love in concert, so I guess that would be the bone (for me anyway). :] :D :wavey:
Well, I guess we have to consider the audience too. It was made up mostly (I am assuming) people from the industry that the benefit was to promote.
Hopefully, with the FL shows and beyond, we will get a new juicy bone to sink our teeth into and chew on and savor. (weird metaphor on my part), but you get my point.
Now anxiously waiting on photos/vids/audio from tonight. (crossing fingers and saying pretty please to anyone that got lucky enough to record this).

People are always disappointed with Stevie's setlist- that's just the way it's always been. The odds that she'll change anything up for her Florida shows are slim to none. I am in the camp that doesn't care *what* she plays- I'm always just thrilled to see her.

I am sticking to my theory that Waddy is a key factor in why the set list never changes. Whenever he plays with her its the same old shit. OSOTM, Street Angel, and Enchanted tours all ghad incredible set lists. Then he came back in 01 and it was like "What?!?!". Also, I think Waddy and Carlos' guitars sound awful together when they are overlapping.

Wow, I can't believe the set list hasn't changed :distress: What the f**k is a matter with her? I can kinda see why, with it being Vegas, and just rich drunk gamblers in the audience, and she probably figures why do anything obscure (is that right word?) for them (as someone already mentioned). Hopefully she'll change it up for the rest of the dates.

Oh my god, I am too hungover and exhausted to post much today. I think some ledgies were able to get photos, and maybe some video. The security was very tight around cameras.
Quick highlights for me:
--Meeting and hanging out with great people! :D What fun. More on that later, I'm sure.
--Finally, after 31 years of being a devoted fan, I have shaken Stevie's hand. I scored on the Edge walk. Had to deal with obnoxious drunk people and basically shoved my hand in hers the minute it was free. I feel complete.
--Having drinks next to many of the band after the show. Waddy, Lori, Al, Taku, Jimmy, Brett. Some ledgies talked to them and will undoubtedly be reporting. I just told Lori the show was wonderful and thanked her. And I said "excuse me" to Waddy when I bumped into him.
--Stevie's vocals were spot on. And she wore knee-high boots. And there were a few fun new things like a slightly different ending to Landslide and a very extended ending to GDW. BATB was out of this world.
The setlist is a bore though. I came in with very low expectations fortunately.
That's all I have energy for.:wavey:

I have no problem with the greatest hits. I just wish she would drop the non-hits I'd also prefer a different encore than Rock and Roll.
Really, it was thrilling to see her and I had a fantastic time. But the setlist thing is a disappointment for me.

No. He's tried to get her to do different songs. I saw your comment elsewhere about getting rid of Waddy. Are you out of your mind? Waddy rocks that band and like she said, drives it like a Porsche. His guitar licks are as unmistakable as Lindsey's. It's not his fault she wants to stick to the safe stuff. Waddy fucking rocks. Hard. Who do you propose she replace him with? Kenny G?
With respect to the OSOTM and Timespace sets, the Timespace set is very similar to the one she performs now. And while there may have been some variety in the OSOTM set, Stevie's performance was lacking. She was so zonked on klonopin that she stood at the microphone and sang in a strange monotone. I actually felt bad for her when I saw her on that tour. But hey, if that's your cup of tea, who am I to keep you down?
Also in regards to your response about my comment of the return of Fall From Grace (it did disappear for a while there) well that's what I get for trying to say something positive about the set. Whomever made the comment that the set is what it is was right on. As long as you go in with the expectation that she's not going to surprise you with any different songs and you're just happy to see her then I guess there's no reason for disappointment.

Waddy is not my cup of tea. I don't like the way he plays guitar at all. The Edge intro is a complete bore to me. Stevie has had the exact the same set for the past two years. Its getting very disappointing. I try to tell myself everytime to not expect anything, but theres always that little bit of hope that she may surprise us with Rooms on Fire or even Talk to Me. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing her everytime, but I don't understand why they can't rehearse at least ONE new song for the fans. Landslide, IMO, is completely unneccesary for a solo set. With that long GDW extension, she could have done at least 2 obscure songs.

Despite having the same old set list, Stevie was on fire last night. She looked and sounded fantastic.
On a side note- I totally had my own Paula-like leg warmer moment. During the Edge walk I was too close to the stage so she went over my head (got an eyeful of the Two Birds of Rhiannon). Her boots were close by though, so I copped a good feel of the velvet wonders whilst screaming "I touched her boots". :o

I just got back to Boston from Vegas. I had a blast!! :D It was so much fun to meet so many Ledgies (and hopefully even convince some to stop lurking and start talking ;) ). I was able to take a few pics with my camera phone, but as Ryan mentioned security was extremely tight (I've never seen a security guard as afraid as the one in front of us before Edge.) They aren't great, but I'll try to post them tomorrow.
I'll leave the reviews to those who are better at them. Everyone knows the set list. It was a treat for me....my first time hearing How Still My Love and If Anyone Falls live....and Lori being on stage. Stevie was amazing. Looked great, sounded great....I loved that she sang the "Storytellers" version of Edge...with the extra lyrics.
As Stevie said during the show, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" But a few things I learned:
-FM/Stevie fans are the most fun, loving fans I know.
-
-Don't count on ROF ever being in the set again.
-Although tequila is my friend, he doesn't get along with everyone.
-Apparently...only Catholics wear penguins
-You don't have to wear shoes to walk through Caesar's Palace...or at least while walking between bars.
-Neil looks 45, but he's only 25 :xoxo:
-I heart Ledgies

I don't understand the thing about the concert being for charity so why would the setlist change. If the argument is that the show was for charity and that means a lot of casual or non-fans, then there is still no compelling reason to do Enchanted, Outside The Rain, Fall From Grace, Rock And Roll because they wouldn't know those songs anyway. So why not replace a couple of those for something new and different?

Me too, and I loved it last night. You can tell she really loves singing this one. She doesn't hit the high notes, but puts tons of energy into it.

I couldn't agree more. Waddy rocks the world in my book. I almost shit my pants when he returned to her band. So much energy. I seem to recall an interview where Stevie mentioned that they had considered playing Bella Donna on the TISL Tour and mutually decided against it because it would be too complicated to perform every night. So it seems like they make setlist decisions together. I think it's safe to "blame" both of them if you have any setlist issues. Wasn't it Waddy who convinced her she should be opening her shows with a hit and got her to trade out OTR/Dreams for SDMHA? I personally missed the traditional opener (though I do think the recent choice of Enchanted is good too).

Well, I was sad you weren't there. :(
...And I still disagree with you guys about the benefit thing. If this was a typical "benefit" setlist, then it wouldn't have included HSML and IAF. No, this was the Caesar's "Dreams" setlist, with Rock And Roll replacing INTK. This is going to be the same setlist they will do in March.
Yeah I agree with this...... if they switched up too many songs then they would have to re-do the background images for the new songs, etc. That would be cool but I highly doubt it would happen..... and again if Taku is going back out with Lindsey and then playing at Stevies shows in March then he wouldn't be able to rehearse anything new right??

Exactly. In fact, Stevie said that they basically met to do the soundcheck, so there were no rehearsals. Like I said, went in with low expectations for a different setlist, so the disappointment wasn't deep. Still, I'm always hoping for a surprise or two.

I wonder why there weren't any rehearsals though. As far as we know, they haven't been up to much, except Brett and Taku, but that tour ended a few weeks ago. From what ive read, all it really takes its a few days to learn a new song on stage. And if its a song like Rooms on Fire, it shouldnt take that long because shes done it many times before. Hell, it was even done in 99 a few times. I don't think this has to do with time management, or rehearsals or whatever, I just think they don't really WANT to change anything and that upsets me.:distress:

I think you're right about SDMHA. What in the world is so complicated about Bella Donna? You know she offered him buckets of money to go out touring again. From what I understand, he had a pretty comfortable life and lots of work in LA.

Ditto to this. I've been thinking all day about all the fun. It was a fantastic group of people.
Some other random comments:
--Stevie spun so many times during Stand Back that I lost count.
--At the end of her extended GDW ending, she danced around Waddy and did a pose with him to close the song. Maybe she did that last year, but I don't remember.
--She was very gracious when introducing her band and talked a lot about how they had always been there for them. It was very genuine and moving.
--She doesn't play the tambo very much anymore, does she. Just a few bangs during Enchanted and Rock And Roll.
--She did the great ending to SDMHA that she did with TP this summer....yelling "around.....around....around....around".
--She did a lot of the back to the audience thing, which I love. Always have, always will.
--I really noticed her hesitance to let loose when she was so worried about keeping her hat on (it kept slipping) during Rock And Roll. Why not just take it off?
--HSML is sexy. And the fans who came running down for Edge during the middle of it were too damn early and pissed me off as I had to spend so much of the song fighting for my place.
--I need to be more assertive in turning down a kamikaze shot. :D
--Thank you Kim for keeping me from making a fool of myself in front of Stevie's band in the bar.

Thanks for giving me a good laugh again. I had a great time meeting everyone and now I expect Neal to be at some more Bay Area shows so he can hang out with the gang.
Did Alex end up staying until Sun or did he go home Sat?
As for Rooms on Fire, I think Waddy mentioned to Neal that it was too personal for Stevie to sing.
Well, whose story is it? Why is it a sore subject (and with whom) that she won't do Rooms on Fire? Argh...c'mon, you can't make comments like that and then refuse to elaborate!
Well, if she's referring to what I think she's referring to, here's the story.
I was too scared to approach Waddy, so I tried talking to Al. He was totally nice entertained all my stupid fan-boy questions that I'm sure he's sick of answering. He may have been so pleasant because he'd just been complimented on his hair by Curtis... Anyways, I asked if he missed performing 'ROF' and he just said "oh wow, that was a long time ago". I said then it's time to bring it back. He said "talk to that man/guy" and pointed at Waddy. Still being scared to approach, I asked Anita to do it for me. So she did.
Luckily Waddy was really cool too. He took a picture with me and I proceeded to kiss ass for a few mins before asking about 'ROF'. He shook his head and ran his hand across his throat. I asked why and he said some songs are a "sore subject" for her, and she still gets the final say regardless of his opinions. I kissed ass a little more... "Really?! That's too bad Waddy because I think you could do some amazing arrangements of some of those songs..." :woohoo: He seemed genuinely appreciative of the comments, shook my hand and said good night. I decided to let it go then turned around to tell everyone what he'd just said.

Hi. This is my post on the show highlights:
Enchanted: Nothing too too new or different with this song. She looked radiant when she walked out. She had her shorter skirt on, as others have stated. I love that damn jacket. The boots were fab! Vocally, she was right on. I could tell she was going to get into it....
SDMHA: Ok. Usually, this is one of my least favorites. This time, she rocked it. The extra raspy yells at the end were to die for. No washing machine/jazzercise dance this time....it was less rehearsed dancing...and more off the wall jirations.
OTR/Dreams: NEVER EVER does these two songs get old. OTR was prolly the best I've heard from her live. It was raw and emotional (I'm guessing she was wasted or high). Dreams was fantastic as well.
Rhiannon: Very good. She let Darryl play extra in the beginning, while she just stood there, conducting. If I recall correctly, she even said something like "I could stand here and listen to him all day".....and then she started the song. Little different lyrics in the piano verse. The rocking section was not that bad. Amber, she even held her head like she does in your icon. I.about.died.
Sorcerer: Perfection.
Stand Back: No keyboards. Something must have been malfunctioning or something. Still, her vocals on this kicked major ass. She twirled like a bitch.....IN BOOTS, EVEN. She was hitting some high notes and ad libbing more than usual during the ending. Very nice.
Landslide: No dedication. The backdrop video was altered as well.....maybe due to the extra long ending ala Stormy Weather. She was missing some words here and there in the song, too. "Snow covered......*pause*....The landslide...." No "hills" hahah.
GDW: Best.ever. It was sexy, hot....she was playing major biotch during this song. She was copping 'tude. I'm pretty sure she was ad libbing differently during this song as well. She came out in leather gloves and a tan colored shaw.
IAF: Yay. It was sped up a bit. She told a hilarious story about her neck and how it can't bend....and that she was totally jealous that Lori got to be picked up and twirled around by Brad in the video....all because her head can't bend and stay bent. I think she said she was decapitated in a former life? Maybe?
Band intros: Very long this time. She seemed very sweet while introducing everyone. It was a little emotional.
FFG: I admit. This time around it had more ump to it. I still get pissed she doesnt try "the note" The best part of the song is the lighting effects they do. I love that!
HSML: Edited. Yay.
Edge: Isn't this song always perfect? Yes. Yes it is. I think her white duster was slimmed down as well....didn't look as full as it usually does. I can't believe she did the walk in boots...crazy lady......and yes, I touched her...and she touched me....:D
RNR: Lots of dancin'
Beauty/Beast: Never gets old. It was hot.
I'll be back sometime for the pre and post show follies.....Me tired.

Wow, thanks Curtie. I love it when she Pulls it Out, Spanks it, Shakes It, Throws It Down on the Bed, and Has Her Way With It. :blob1:
now, tell me - this rhiannon hair hold - was it because she was moving so as to make her bangs flop into her eyes (ie, somewhat vigorously) and she had to push them back, or was it a more sedate hair grab? :p But really.
Also, why did you say "HSML - Edited. Yay."? - that was a huge highlight for me in Vegas. On a night when we also suspected she had taken a few shots of 'quil(y)a. I love when Stevie is sassy, I would have liked to see that GDW.

SHOW REVIEW: Prince
Nothing Compares 2 Prince: Singer throws out most of the Vegas rules during his new free-form show at the Rio
By MIKE WEATHERFORD
REVIEW-JOURNAL
Prince has thrown out the Vegas playbook, and isn't it about time?
Think about what most Las Vegas entertainment is, versus what it could be. Las Vegas is an all-night town, but ticketed shows start at 7:30 p.m. and last about 90 minutes. Big stars such as Elton John take the money and play by dated rules, serving up the same short and tidy sets night after night.
So it seems like something out of a Vegas movie when your pricey ticket at least buys you nearly three late-night hours within sweating distance of a legend -- particularly one who still has so much to offer.
Granted, this whole Prince-in-Vegas thing is a little bit disorienting. Behind its anything goes facade, Las Vegas is an obsessive-compulsive neat-freak that disdains the wild card. So here comes the Purple One, cutting a quick deal with the Rio and hitting the ground running. He gives the old Club Rio a quick makeover and promises to play here every Friday and Saturday night for ... three months? As long as he feels like?
Ask him. Or have fun trying.
Catching up to last Saturday's show, the idea was to see if things had settled into any kind of routine since the opening of the 3121 club-and-restaurant operation on Nov. 10.
Fat chance. The set list had familiar reference points, but the opening weekend's minimalist band approach went out the window with the arrival of a surprise guest star: R&B saxophone great Maceo Parker, along with two more horn players and a keyboardist who have toured with both performers.
(Parker returns on Wednesday and Nov. 20, co-billed with Larry Graham & Graham Central Station. Graham toured with Prince in the late 1990s and calls him "Little Brother." You think You Know Who might show up?)
The show started a little after midnight and still wasn't over when Prince sang "Purple Rain" at 2:35 a.m. It was one of only a couple of songs in the show that you would call a signature hit -- another rule out the window. And while the general-admission floor thinned as the night wore on, it's safe to say most people had no problems with a set so heavily weighted with songs from the new "3121" album. Prince knows how to sell this stuff.
You need not be a hard-core fan to be caught up in the contagious musicality. As Prince moved from guitar to two-bass jams with Josh Durham, from choirboy falsetto to growling sex fiend, the show was as much a celebration of performing as it was a performance.
The opening "Sexuality" trailed into "Johnny B. Goode," just because it could. "Girls & Boys" brought out the horn section on a riser accessed by spiral staircase --the fanciest touch on a stage stripped to the back wall, highlighted in florescent paint -- with a Greg Boyer trombone solo the first of many excursions into the jamming funk of the James Brown and P-Funk old school.
A confetti drop on the crowd pulled them into the new "Lolita" just as much as "Kiss" or any song he didn't play. As Prince sailed from straight-up gospel blues to heavy rock chords to jazzy bedroom ballads such as "Shhh," there wasn't much time to pine for missing hits.
Besides, what's more fun than a party where no one's having more fun than the host?
Prince took his guitar into one of the seating areas (which are "upsells" with bottle service) for a solo during Parker's "Pass the Peas" instrumental. He pulled fans up to dance. He threw down playful taunts: "Can you stay up till 5 in the mornin'? Hmph. We'll see about that."
Or, "After the show, we're goin' in the restaurant and I'm gonna groove some more. Ya'll can go home if you want." (And, according to Web postings, he did just that -- until 5 a.m., natch.)
When an encore jam of "Partyman" segued into "Play That Funky Music" and then an improvised "Start Me Up," where no one knew many of the words beyond the title, you thought you had seen a one-of-a-kind Vegas show to tell the folks at home about.
One encore later, you knew you had. First, Parker and pianist Renato Neto served up a post-2 a.m. instrumental of the Louis Armstrong chestnut "What A Wonderful World." Then Prince came out to deliver a falsetto vocal on the beautiful Joni Mitchell ballad "A Case of You."
That, folks, is worth staying up late for. And even if Prince doesn't make Vegas a long-term proposition, it's going to be hard to see those paint-by-numbers headliners in the same light again.

I can't imagine it being a hard song to sing, so I doubt that theory would be the reason why. Besides, if you can't sing something, you just can't sing it -- it wouldn't really be what would constitute a "sore subject."

Well my first thought was that she had difficulty doing the song justice vocally. But if she can sing it in that monotone she did on the OSOTM tour, then she can still do it justice now. She was still performing it as late as '98 if I'm not mistaken. So what on earth could have happened between then and now? Only Stevie knows for sure...

Lucky f*cky duckies. :D Thanks for the scoop, so cool that you guys partied with the band. And congrats on your boot moment Kim! :p
Please tell me you are saving your pennies for March. :D I wasn't going to go, but now feel like it's a must.

How can someone as cool as Lori seems to be, be married to an asshole like Chris Nicks?
lol...I always wondered about that too. The least she could for us is keep him away from producing any of his sister's print collateral -- tour books, cd covers, etc.
He's complete hack when it comes to graphic design. (see Street Angel, and any tour books).

What in the world is so complicated about Bella Donna?
