Nah, Street Angel was a great tour. She was wailin' on everything. The stage was beautiful, too. :woohoo:

I can see critics ripping on her voice. But I think they focused more on her weight, which was pretty low.

YES IT DOES!! Alison Moyet had a very successful career and she was big. What about Michelle McManus she was huge and she won Pop Idol in the UK...

I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm saying it usually doesn't. and my point was not that one can't be successful and "big" or whatever, it was that critics and public in general will always lump appearance in with talent.

oh and you know ALL CAPS=screaming, right?

For me, the Street Angel Tour performances of HAEWAFY are the most beautiful and powerful of any of her tours. There's just something those performances. Maybe it's the whole getting over Klonopin thing, I don't know but they are amazing. My favorite is from the show she did in Chicago when she ad libs lyrics from "A Thousand Days" before the usual spoken word ending. It's simply amazing.

I've always heard people ripping on her WRITING contributions rather than her vocals.

"Successful" yes...but also very short as well.

There's also Ann Wilson, "Mama" Cass Elliot, too.

I think the stigma was from the "before" to the "after". The ladies above were big to begin with and were ALWAYS big. Stevie was a knockout with Centerfold quality looks and physique...then she ballooned. THAT's where the criticism came from. Had she ALWAYS been a "big girl", her weight wouldn't have been an issue. Or, if she'd stayed svelte, same thing.

But, besides all that...I saw her on the Street Angel tour and I exclaimed to everyone seated around me...."Stevie's BACK, Baby, WOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOoooo". I thought she was awesome that tour. Didn't hurt having Rick Vito on tour with her, either.

Just for the record: Ann Wilson was small in size at the beginning of her career with Heart and then got big. Not sure if that was a misunderstanding or not.

I have a HOB show of Stevie on the SA tour and throughout the whole show, her vocals are phenom! I am familiar with the "talk" about her vocals being panned during this era. Of course, I don't agree either... haven't heard anything so far that would make me believe otherwise. Perhaps it was part of the whole Stevie bashing thing where some critics were bashing her for her weight so they bashed her vocals along with it. Who knows... some of those critics are just plain rude and mean.

Well..the voice was rough for sure.
