First of all, allow me to define the word "conshohocken." (I like to pronounce it con-cha-hock-in.)

In reality, it's the name of a small town in PA near Philly. But in my world, it can be used as a noun, verb or adjective. On our road trip to the Mac show in Atlantic City 5/03, friend Ryan & I saw a sign for this town. We joked "Sounds like a bad STD. 'I'm sorry sir, but you have conshohoken.'" Well, being on the road for 7 hours straight takes its toll & we decided that it's the funniest word ever. EVER. :D

Of course, it's always been our little joke. Until now. Our friends in Cali embraced the word with open arms & it's now firmly in their vocabularies.

"Excuse me, can you please pass the conshohoken?"
"Oh my God, did you see that conshohoken?"
"Owww! I just hit myself in the conshohoken!"
"I should have tried to conshohoken my ass up to the front row."
"My oh my, you're looking quite conshohoken today."
"Conshohoken off, assh*le!"

And so on & so on. You may not find it funny, but if that's the case, I feel bad for you. Cuz it truly IS the funniest word ever & should be treated as such. So, if a Ledgie throws the word out there in their post, now you'll get it. Or not.

I read Rickypt/Ryan's review & I pretty much agree. So I won't say much about the shows themselves. I will, however, talk incessantly about my trip so if you don't care for my blathering on, please don't read it. 'Kay? Thanks. :wavey:

I arrived in LA on Thurs around 3:30pm & my Best Gay Boyfriend (BGB) Ryan picked me up. We went to his apartment & I immediately opened up a beer & lit a smoke. Yes, I did quit smoking 6 years ago. :o But not when I'm with him, since he smokes like a chimney - and def. not when we're drinking together. Discussed going out to eat, drank more beer. Listened to some CDs (Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Patty Griffin) and smoked more cigs. I finally decided to give Sparky a ring, and he said he'd meet us out for food & drink but he had to go exercise first. So while we waited, we had another beer.

We decide to meet at El Coyote (which Sparky tells us is the last place Sharon Tate ate.) I realize I've only seen 2 pics of Sparky - the armpit shot & another far away head to toe pic. I fear I won't recognize him unless he's walking around shirtless with his hands up behind his head. Up walks a dude in a cowboy hat & plaid Western-style shirt. Gotta be the Sparkman. And it was. What a cutie.

We have dinner, a few margaritas (his with Silver Patron - of course- on the rocks, mine frozen, Ryan's a peach although he asked for the pear. We chat about The Ledge, earthquakes, Stevie & L.A. Good times, lots of laughs. It's time to go before we know it (not by choice - they were closing & kicked us out.)

We stand outside for a bit, chatting. It's then that we realize that almost every customer is a gay man. It's not known as a "gay" restaurant, so this seemed a little odd to him. As Sparky so eloquently put it "you can't swing a bat in there without hittin' a queer." Too funny. More proof that the gays flock to me.... :p I almost convince him to fly up to Berk the next day, but alas, airfare has gone up too high.

More to come.....

I've gotta run :sorry: , but here's SDMHA from Saturday's show for now. Note the many kicks, and if you look very closely, you'll see rhinestones up back of her boot heels.

:] :] Very funny, indeed! I'm from Philly and dated someone who lived in Conshohoken. It's an odd little town, which fits its name perfectly. Living there, I never thought it was that strange of a name but now that I've moved to Florida and see it in this context, it is a truly bizzare word. Thanks for the humor!!

Okay, I'm fearful that Paula won't post again until tomorrow, and she has most of the funny pics. I only have a few due to the complete recording of Jaz doing Escape from Conshahokin taking up lots of space. Are you going to post that, Jaz? :D Oh, because I haven't gotten extra memory for my camera. Well, I also have a snippet of Paula/Jaz Gold and Braid dance wherein Paula did the moves so exactly that I actually thought Stevie was there.  It kicked ass. That was also the case with Jaz's BATB, his hand movements were uncanny.

But Paula said I could post my pics here. I resized them but that doesn't show on my 'puter, so I hope they aren't too big.

Paula and Ryan with awesome side ponytail

Paula middle top of head ponytail (yes, we were drunk most of the time, and yes we thought various ponytails were funny)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/contchahoken2006.jpg

Deborah, Paula, Ryan, and Jaz on the patio of the gay bar. No lesbians attacked us, just a few weird gay men that seemed to horrify Jaz and Ry and Pau, but seemed business as usual for me - in fact one of the guys was my "Room's on Fire" friend. The other had told me I was beautiful previously, but was wearing all this weird makeup - you guys shoulda seen Jaz and Paula's faces when this guy walked up. Naturally, he was fine with me, having told me I was beautiful. :p I always expect everyone will be strange as a matter of course. Or, I don't think of them as strange.

It was funny to watch JazRyPaul's faces as both these people came to talk to them. Priceless. BTW, Jaz is super nice, but his snooty face is even better and funnier than I could've hoped for - same with Paula. I thought I had a killer "don't talk to me, you lamo!" face, but these bitches rivaled mine, and in unexpected situations. I'm always nice and friendly and accepting at the gay bar. I wanted to laugh my ass of at their faces, but also felt compelled to help them, as their host. But I didn't help them, cause it wasn't that offensive to me, and their faces were handling it good enough.
Deborah, of course, was cooool, caaaalm and collected as usual - and why not, she'd already been hanging with us weirdos all night. And if she could get a word in edgewise with us, I'd be suprised. Deborah is very neat, I love her as my concert partner. Quiet, but laughs at your jokes and is funny too, and not judgmental, not that you can tell at least. Also, gorgeous, and who doesn't like to hang with attractive people? lol.

The next night when the boys wanted to hit this same bar, I asked "Why? Are you sure? You just make fun of everyone and think they are strange" and therein lied my answer.

If you are at a gay bar, and don't like the other boys (or girls) the next most fun to be had is making fun of them, I just learned. So. Hilarious. I've totally been missing out. I was all being accepting and friendly and giving people the benefit of the doubt and stuff - being a straight girl in a gay bar. If you are a gay boy or a superhag (Hey, Paula!) in a gay bar, no such compunctions apply. I'm still not going to be bitchy if I go there alone, though, god knows when the lesbians will attack. If they attacked when I am nice, god knows what they'll do if I am mean....hell hath no fury like a woman who eats p*ssy. And also gay men have double no reason to talk to me if I am bitchy.

Exactly. But she can't have it back, cause I stole it from Paula.
But seriously, this girl in my class the other week was sporting a side PT. Looked cute. But she's 23, AFA.
I tell you what, though, this was my hairstyle when I was young. I was all about the side ponytail. The side ponytail was the jam. Also, two days ago, I threatened to wear one, but didn't. I tried it at home, it looked cute with my face, but nevertheless I am still 32, and have to consider the shred of dignity I may be hanging onto. I'm already age appropriate challenged.

OK, I'm back. I thought I'd better spend a few hours with my husband after leaving him for a week to hang out with all you WaMu's. But he's out & about running errands for family so here I am.

So. Ry & I leave his place at 9am Friday....and promptly stop for breakfast. It was some little Mexican dive diner type place, and hoshit was it good. I had a breakfast burrito (eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, cheese & ketchup in a huge burrito - did I mention I wasn't counting points this trip?) I swear I was full for about 8 hours. Sooooo good. Plus, an old black guy checked out my ass. I knew there was a reason to stay chubby.

The drive up to Oakland was not great. We passed through Boringtown, then Dullsville, and then we spotted the cows. THE COWS! As far as they eye could see, thousands of cows in a pasture. The smell lasted for at least 15 minutes & made me ill. So if you travel up the 5 in Cali, be prepared for the cows. I've decided that as far as the central part of the state goes, No Cal & So Cal are the best, and the rest is a parallel Nebraska universe.

We drive up the street & see an insane woman jumping up & down on the sidewalk. Of course, it's Amber, and of course I told her to do this to welcome us or we'd be offended. :D We take the conshohoken to the grocery store for beer & snacks & return to get ready. Amber's apt. is small, but not as small as she lets on. Of course, there are lots of books, incense, pics of Stevie & herbal tea - just as I had imagined. And the kitties - I don't think any of them hated us, but Spanky was not happy when I had a towel on my head & went down to pet him. I think he's racist against people with turbans. :wavey:

Jaz arrives & we chat for a bit until it's time to jet. Deborah is late, so we assume that she's ditching us & call the cab. We're in the cab (a mini van that reeked of Eau de Smelly Drive'r) and Deborah calls, so we ask Mean Mr. Smelly to stop & wait a minute. Mind you, we've only gone 3 blocks. He whines, then Amber points out that the meter is still running, so why should he care. He says he'll wait & Amber jumps out to run & get Deborah. I tell Jaz to leave the door open, and thank God because not 30 seconds had passed when he started threatening to leave. I say "they're right there, I can see them walking down the street now, they'll be here in less than 1 minute" and Jaz chimes in "one of them can't run because of her hip dysplasia." Anyway, they get tot he cab in 45 seconds & we're off.

We went to Blake's. Great food, not pricey at all. Jaz & Ry flirt with our gay Guatamalan waiter & get his number, and he gives all of us Amber's student discount. I still can't figure out how dinner for 5 including several drinks came to only $54, but I'm not about to look a gay gift horse in the mouth. :) Eliza & her friend Pam (Kim? Damn...) meet us there briefly & then go to find parking. We decide to hoof it, since it's not really that far from the venue.

Now, if you'll recall, I had tix for Sat but not Fri. Amber was vey sad about this, but we had decided we just didn't want to pay $80 (after fees) for a SRO ticket. So we tell her we'll walk up there with them to check out the neighborhood & meet them after the show. Of course, we find 2 tix for $60 each from a scalper & we say "screw it" and go. They were section 5 row 19 (dead center, but almost top row.) Decent deats that had a face value of $65+fees.

I won't go through every song. Petty's always good, he has never disappointed me. The lights, however, did annoy me to no end. If ya'll haven't heard, all the lights went out during "Listen to Her Heart" - the opening song. I mean, ALL the lights. They shined flashlights on Petty & Mike Campbell for a bit, then got the spotlights up & running. Eventually, the lights/screens were back, only to go back out later. All I could think of was "Oh, no, La Nicks will NOT like this, it's all about lighting, oh no..." So that sucked, I don't know why it bothered me so damn much, but it did & I honestly couldn't relax & completely enjoy the show. Except Insider, of course. ;)

Although Jaz already posted his vid, here's mine anyway. You can never have too much Insider.

The show itself. Petty & the boys are just so damn good, with our without our girl. They really are. "It's Good To Be King" is fanfuckingtastic. Never a huge fave of mine, but the jam at the end is phenomenal. "Don't Come Around Here No More" is one of the best live performances I've ever seen from anyone. Here's Saturday night's version; please note Stevie's air violin and spastic strobe dance. This is the last of my concert vids:

After Friday's show, we all meet up near WillCall & briefly talk with Anita & makes plans for the next night. Then Deb, Jaz, me, Ry & Amby head to the gay bar. Amber makes it sound like we were all "ew, don't talk to me freak!" Well, maybe we kind of were. Only because we wanted to chat amongst ourselves & find out more about eachother, that's all. Kind of hard to ask Deborah about her horses or her favorite hair band when a complete stranger is standing literally 6 inches away from her staring at her hair.

We take the hint to leave when the bar guys lock us onto the patio. We walk back to Amber's & try some karaoke. Well, we scared the shit out of Ryan, who apparently had no clue just how deep our obsession was. He looked like a deer in headlights. Jaz left, Deb left, so it was me Amber & Ry (who had had lots to drink and was not much fun.) I think we finally made it to bed around 6am.

Saturday was obviously a very late start, but we get up, grab coffee & head out to breakfast. In the cab, I accidentally tip over my almost empty coffee cup & spill it on my leg. Oh, and down my leg onto my crotch. Great - now it looks and feels like I peed my pants. Yuck. It kind of dries as time goes on. The food was good, but the place was debatable - our salt shaker had sour cream (we think) on it, so we told the waitress. She takes it, then brings it back half wiped. Gee, thanks. We used the other shaker. Oh, and they were out of Bloody Mary's. For brunch on a Saturday. Hmmmmmm.....

We are very low on time, so decide to take BART to the mall in San Fran & do a little shopping instead of sightsee. Never have I been so uncomfortable in my life as I was in that mall. 5 levels. FIVE! And so many people, way too many people. Later, Rickypt tells us that it was the grand re-opening so that explains it. But that does not explain why there are bathrooms on levels 1 & 5 and that's it. Also, why there are only 6 stalls so I had to wait in line for 15minutes to pee. That's just wrong. I'm at a mall, not a Bills game for f*ck's sake. Wanna know what else is wrong? That Leslie such & such at Bare Essentuals has groupies. We were told they were lined up the day before waiting for her autograph, but she didn't show. Ryan and I, being ignorant to the Bare Essentuals/ Minerals Leslie phenomenon, were clued in by an employee. We saw her picture & to us she looks like Tori Spelling's chubby brunette sister. But I digress.

We realize it's very late, so we head outside. At least I can say I actually saw San Francisco. Very cool, but very crowded. And people don't say excuse me or sorry when they slam into you, which I'm not used to. My bro says it's the same way in AZ. We stop at another store, then Ry gets a $5 cup of that we end up waiting 10 minutes for them to make. We get back on BART & Ry & I start commenting about how much conshohoken is probably on the seats & railings & such. I get out my Purell & sanitize.

Sat pm we're all in a great mood, ready to go & meet everyone for sushi. Deborah drives (thanks, sweetie!) and gets a kickass parking space near the restaurant. Right on, I say (well, I say it now, anyway - not a common saying in my neck of the woods, but I adapted.) We meet Eliza, Rickypt, and Jaz at the restaurant & eat some really great sushi. I mean, really great. Poor Deborah about starved (She ordered something that was apparently an appetizer, and a very small one. She did have some of our) pity sushi, picking out the seaweed of course.)

After din din, we figure out who's riding with who. Rickypt & Jaz & me go with Deb; Amber, Eliza & Ry get a cab. Parking is not fun near The Greek. We did find a spot in a ramp - then saw a sign that said it closed at 11pm. So we went to another ramp, only to hit a dead end & watch a woman attempt to back up, hitting a curb in the process TWICE! We finally find another ramp & Deb squeezes her can into the tiniest spot of all time and we're off & brisking walking. We get there right as Frank Black ended, grab a beer & find our seats.

A comment about The Greek. Coolest.Venue.Ever. Seriously. Literally not a bad seat in the house because the incline is steep. Here's a pic of the stage & some of the side section after the show to give you an idea:

Me & Ry after the show:

More to come, including drunken fun with a mop head, 4 am karaoke & the Pacific Coast Highway....

The drive up to Oakland was not great. We passed through Boringtown, then Dullsville, and then we spotted the cows. THE COWS! As far as they eye could see, thousands of cows in a pasture. I've decided that as far as the central part of the state goes, No Cal & So Cal are the best, and the rest is a parallel Nebraska universe.

Yeah, central CA, sorry about that. We just tell them to grow our food and keep quiet about their existence, otherwise. Nice places in Central CA: Chico. That's it. Southern Central CA. is worse than northern, too.

:wavey:
It's because Spanky had previously met our cab driver. :D After Paula called Spanky handsome, and took the turban off, he loved her.
I'd also like to point out that I only have one big pic of Stevie on top of my bookshelf, and a couple small ones on the fridge, two of which someone gave me. ;) And I only had 1 kind of herbal tea. Wait, two. Okay. And who doesn't have incense? I had some Champra, but didn't bust it out.

 "hip displaysia".
This was actually my second bad experience with a cab in two days, oddly.

I forgot about the discount! That waiter really was cute. Kim was Eliza's friend, who later saw me eat it in the bathroom (slip on the floor) trying to rush back to the show. Along with a whole line full of other people. If I didn't do embarrassing things in front of people all the time, I mighta cared. I also ate it again moments later on the way down the hill/stairs.

Oddly, I hade made the same trip up and down twice awhile before that - I tried to go to the bathroom, but as soon as I finished sprinting up the hill/stairs to the bathroom, Insider started, so I breakneck speeded back down the hill/stairs - I had also gone up to get beers at the beginning. Both those previous times I was more buzzed, and did not fall, but at the very end when more sober, I fell twice. Curious. Plus, there were all these drunk people clogging the stairs that I had to dodge or push. hehehehe.

Maybe the first two times my dangerously full bladder was holding my balancing muscles in place, or maybe I was just worn out. I fell twice in one night on the Vegas stairs, too, for the same reason. I think I know what to expect next concert I attend. I shall wear ankle braces.

That was such an awesome suprise, it was like my birthday! I was so excited.

I won't go through every song. Petty's always good, he has never disappointed me. The lights, however, did annoy me to no end. If ya'll haven't heard, all the lights went out during "Listen to Her Heart" - the opening song. I mean, ALL the lights. So that sucked, I don't know why it bothered me so damn much, but it did & I honestly couldn't relax & completely enjoy the show. Except Insider, of course.
I barely noticed the lights, it seemed like they just went out briefly twice. And not during Stevie. And we could still hear. Sorry they bugged you. Not like I was in charge of checking the lighting or anything.

Although Jaz already posted his vid, here's mine anyway. You can never have too much Insider.

That's true!! Kick ass vid.

That's true, it wasn't that bad, I had just never seen yours and Jaz' faces do that before.

I still thought it was fun, but Ryan was totally freaking just because we were singing. Also we went outside and Khrista sang with Ryan, then sang a song for us, then Ryan and Jaz totally freaked out at her voice and Ry never stopped talking about it. It was very good. My neighbors loved us, it was only like, 4 in the morning. Luckily they are used to me doing that, singing at all hours, so whatever.

We used the other shaker. Oh, and they were out of Bloody Mary's. For brunch on a Saturday. Hmmmmmm..... Yeah, the bloody Mary thing was lame. The salt shaker thing was expectable to me in such a busy small place, but she shoulda wiped it better. :p

But I digress.
So lame. I hate malls. It was pretty funny, though. I'm sad I didn't get to show you the way cute parts of Berkeley that are non crowded and right by my house instead of stupid crowded malls in SF. But I felt compelled that you should see SF, also that the Berkeley shops wouldn't have the makeup Jaz wanted. If I had known, like everyone else in the world, that that was the grand re-opening of the (now) biggest mall on the West Sy-eed, I would have reconsidered.

We realize it's very late, so we head outside. At least I can say I actually saw San Francisco. Very cool, but very crowded. And people don't say excuse me or sorry when they slam into you, which I'm not used to. We get back on BART & Ry & I start commenting about how much conshohoken is probably on the seats & railings & such. I get out my Purell & sanitize.
Oh, that's what you were talking about! This was also the birth of Conshahoken for me and Jaz. They were cracking up on BART, then we found out why. Then all shared in the joy and germs, we all caught the conshahoken on BART. That's why Jaz is sick now...

However, they sat us way in back by the bathroom, which I was pissed about especially after waiting in line, and was about to make a "fuss", but Ryan said he liked it because it was private - I still hated it, but decided to let it go. It was all cute and nice up front, I wanted to sit with the people, not be shunted in back like we all had the conshahoken or something. Oh well. The sushi was good. Sorry Deborah!

After din din, we figure out who's riding with who. Rickypt & Jaz & me go with Deb; Amber, Eliza & Ry get a cab. Parking is not fun near The Greek. Yeah, you're a terrible person for forcing us to go with you. It would have been totally awesome to drop us off & walk all the way up to the venue by yourself in the dark on a poorly lit street.

I didn't mind at all. We had fun.

OK, so where was I? Yes. Saturday night. So after the show we all meet up at a bar that is supposedly a happening place - well, not this night. It was totally dead. There was literally 1 other group of peeps besides us. But I actually liked that since we could all gather & chat & see & hear eachother. Had some drinks (some had a drink that smoked - fog something or other...) and laughs & took several pics. Ryan (Rickypt) had to run to catch the train, so that kind of sucked. Would've liked more time to get to know him. At 1am, the poor waitress was practically begging the rest of us to leave. So Amber, Jaz & I decide to go back to the gay bar & say goodbye to everyone.

We get there around 1:15am & we're notified that it's last call. Lamo Cali bars - in Buffalo they're open until 4am. Anyway, we double up like the true drunks that we are & are about halfway through our first beer when they start locking us on the patio again. We chug the rest (well, the boys do, me & Amber try to) and leave.

On the way home, Ry grabs a rag mop that someone has left on the sidewalk. It is here I will mention my confusion at people leaving things on the sidewalk in Cali - clothing, tools, brooms, mops, trash...you name it, we saw it. I don't get it - don't they have Goodwill there? OK, anyway. We decide this mop is the funniest thing we've ever seen. It becomes even funnier when the rag head flies off of it down the sidewalk. We leave the mop pole (later realizing that this was a catostrophic mistake - it would have made a perfect mike stand) and proceed to take turns kicking the mop head down the street. Well, Ry, Amber & I kick it. Jaz attempts, misses & says "I never was any good at sports." Well, this was the funniest thing I had ever heard. Did I mention that it was about 2am in the middle of a street in Oakland? Totally silent except for me, laughing hysterically at Jaz's little joke. He goes to kick it again. And misses again. Well, I about peed my pants. I didn't, for the record, but I thought I might.

We get to Amber's apt. & Ry's all "hey, let's sing." Oh really? We can sing now? We're not total freaks & you're not afraid anymore? It was at that moment we knew we had him. Sucked into the black hole of our obsession, never to be the same again. We did several performances - group Stand Back, SDMHA mega duet, Jaz & Amber's phenomenal Insider (which was unbelievably good despite both of them doing Stevie's part), Jaz's amazing DTBTIC (Escape from Conshohoken), me & Jaz doing the G&B dance, TISL cluster f*ck, and many many more that I can't remember. Lots of beer & cigs, and me not remembering the beer name Tecate (I kept asking "could you get me a Tostito from the fridge please?") Jaz finally decided he should leave at 3am (for his 6am flight  ) and it was just the 3 of us until we finally retire at 6:30am.

Well, forget Ry & my plan to leave by noon. Yeah, we left Amber's at 2:30, promptly stopped at Jack In The Box (which I'd never been to before - and never will again, due to the fact that the food sat in my stomach like a rock for approx. 9 hours afterwards.) When we cross the bay bridge, we realize that we forgot the atlas. That figures. We just kept going south until we finally found a way onto the Pacific Coast Highway around 5pm. Thank God we did eventually get on, because I saw beauty I didn't think existed in this world. it was amazing. Then it got dark, and we were tired, so we stopped, attempted to eat (still couldn't - stupid JItB) and got the hell off of that dark winding dangerous highway. Got back to Ry's around midnight & passed out until 8am.

The next day Ry drove me to San Diego so my brother & nephew could pick me up. I spent 2 days with them, then flew back to Buffalo on Wednesday.

I'm sure I forgot several details, which may come to me later on. I'm also sure there may be things I left out on purpose, to protect the innocent. :D All & all, a great f*cking time. I always love meeting Ledgies & have not been disappointed yet. Sparky - oh, you filthy, naughty cowboy. If you lived closer, this hag would definitely have 2 fags. You are hilarious, and thank you for dinner. I'm so glad I got to meet you in person after all this time - and not just your pit. Deborah - I remember you from Vegas as being so quiet, but you're not really that quiet. Of course, you're not loud & obnoxious like I am, but you are so kind & beautiful. Thank you so much for driving & just being so very sweet. You are a good soul. Thanks for the hair band reminiscing. Ryan - So sorry we couldn't chat more. I didn't have a clue that you were nervous about meeting us, you seemed to fit right in with our immature silliness. Oh, and my Ryan is upset you didn't chat more too - he thinks you're cute ;) Eliza - You are one cool, classy lady. I'm so happy to have met you, and hope to see you again. Anita - Is it weird that we've only met 3 times but I feel like I've known you forever? Seriously, it feels like I'm seeing a dear old friend whenever we meet up. You are an absolute f*cking riot. You & Sparky should meet & hang out, you'd have eachother on the floor laughing until you couldn't breathe. Jaz - You are a wonderful person, a true gentleman & a superb performer. But you dress better than I do, and your skin is flawless. So kiss my conshohoken! :wavey: JK - friends for life now - FO SHO! Amber - I can't thank you enough for letting us stay with you & feeding us & getting us drunk & showing us around. We had so much fun, I can't even describe it. If we lived closer, I know we'd be really great friends. Not that we're not friends, but you know what I mean.

Whever ANY of you guys want to come up to Buffalo & see a show, please let me know! We're only 90 minutes from Toronto too, FYI. I swear to you, there are actually things to see & do here and it would be great to play host. Plus, it's all of your turns to fly your conshohokens across the U.S. to see ME!

Here's seveal pics of us, the show, whatever. None very good, and I hope they still aren't too big since I just spent the last hour on photobucket resizing everything.

It is here I will mention my confusion at people leaving things on the sidewalk in Cali - clothing, tools, brooms, mops, trash...you name it, we saw it. I don't get it - don't they have Goodwill there?

It's self-absorbed California. Why do the work of disposing something properly, when you can just toss it on the sidewalk and let someone else deal with it.

Those Pacific Coast Highway shots are beautiful, and glad you saw some of the best the state has to offer.

Wonderful storytelling, pics, videos, thanks for taking the time to write such an entertaining recap! And I'm sorry also that we didn't get more time to hang out. Hopefully there will be a next time...and soon.

I thought it was mainly here, and it was because here someone will pick up what you dropped really soon, cause they need/want it. People are always like "free stuff" with their box of free stuff on the sidewalk. I thought it was to be nice to the billions of homeless wandering our streets.

It's everywhere. People leave things out here all the time. Some of it is decent too. I have seen some nice sofas and dining tables. I know people who trawl for this stuff. Everyone wants more stuff, it seems.

I am getting the garage at my rental redone before I sell it. The workers hauled out a filthy moldy cheap steamer trunk, two dented and muddy filing cabinets, a mildew covered rug, old dishes, some stray engine parts, and a tote bin full of rotten clothing and pictures (damned tenants and their leave behinds...). I was planning a bulk trash pickup, cause all that stuff was in the driveway waiting. Two days later, everything but the bin full of rotten clothing was gone. The stuff was landfill material. Now it is in someone's house.

BTW, there was an old mop too. GONE.

 I'm kidding obviously, but it was really funny how the "gay men aren't good at sports" stereotype played out twice that night. I.Thought.I.Would.Die. Me & Jaz laughing must have woken up half of Oakland.

Oh - and the trash thing. I don't mean furniture & stuff being left out at the curb, because I'm a firm believer in "one man's trash is another's treasure." I'm talking a pair of jeans, nicely folded, next to someone's gutter downspout on the sidewalk. A seemingly nice jacket laying in the gutter out on the street. A perfectly good mop leaning up against a building. And it's very littery - way more litter in parking lots & on the street there than here. And the graffiti - oh my. Even "nice" neighborhoods have it all over the place. It's a shame - such a beautiful part of the country & people don't seem to care.

Yeah...people don't drive enough, here - all kinds of people walking around littering, riding bikes littering, taking the bus and littering. Walking around writing on sh*t. Instead of, you know, throwing their trash in their cars....
I thought most cities were the same. "Cities". It's not like that in Chico, or some other smaller towns I've been. Cities are icky, anyways. I've heard NY City is really littery, too.

Wow, I missed lots of great review/wrap-up in the last couple days!
Missing all those great end-of-night sing-alongs and emoting-with-mop moments sort of sucked, and might explain why I came off as "soft-spoken”. It was a little like walking into the party 45 minutes after everyone has dropped. I really wanted to hang at Amber's—maybe next time. I was just taking it all in.

I did get to walk in briefly at Blake's as the beautiful Amber, Ryan, Paula, Jason ate their dinner and oggled the delicious waiter. It was wild to see live people, after all this time talking to you on the Ledge. My friend Kim and I had a Cosmo, and then ran off to park.

My Highway Companions tix had to be picked up from Will Call, but it was really quick, and I turned around to see Amber, Paula, Jaz, and Ryan, and to find out that Paula and Ryan had scored some seats. How great!
Amber and I had great seats on Friday: the edge of the stage was only about 2 yards away.

We were bummed at first to see Stevie's mic stand stage right, but then I remember I had never seen Stevie sing a duet any way but facing the partner to her left. Why is that? And, it is really true? Anyway, she returned to the stage for her backups and interpretive dances, and she was right in front of us. Beautiful! The Heartbreakers are an amazing band, and it was fun to see them close up, smiling at each other, as I have always had far away seats at other shows. Amber's wipe-out on the way back to her seat to catch Insider? She may have been embarrassed, and it probably hurt, but I was not only relieved to see that she made it (I was trying to figure out how to get her back, so she wouldn't miss it) but her dedication to the song impressed me. There is nothing half-assed about Amber's devotion.

I actually enjoyed the cover songs, especially Tom's percussion on "Oh Well". One thing I don't remember seeing him (but, you know, it was 20 years ago) do so much before was all of the walking around on stage with both arms held aloft. It was a little bit like being at a revival meeting. Hmm, I used to have a fringe coat like the one he wore on Sat., and I remember it was fun to my arms up and show off that fringe.

This is too long, so a couple of quick comments about the pictures, and videos, and reviews:
Amber Thanks again for letting me hang with you guys! You have managed to combine sparkly and bubbly with dark and intense. How'd you do that? What was all that silliness in the other thread about prettiness? You were so pretty at the Sushi restaurant, and you hadn't even put your makeup on yet. Gorgeous without trying.
Paula I wore a side ponytail all through freshman year in high school. I skated on the beach in it. It is featured in my yearbook picture. You should also sport the side braid (high like the ponytail!) You are super funny, and tell great stories; I loved your kimono , and your whole classy rock concert look. That's conshohocken!
Your friend Ryan was a joy: funny and a little catty (in a fun way,) and he got our cab ride!
Jason Honey, if La Mer is responsible for that skin (but I think it is genetics) than it is worth every penny! You have skin, like a baby's, and I know, because I have one. I really wanted to see/hear you sing, so I am glad Amber posted the video. What a star, hitting the big high notes, and finding the mop.
Ryan of San Francisco I love you for loving your cat enough to miss Friday! You have a gentle, elegant nature, that I wouldn't have guessed just from forum posts. It was great to meet you, and I hope we can meet up in SF sometime.
Deborah I hope to see your beautiful face at another show—it doesn't sound like you miss many of them.
Anita Our musical taste seems to lie in the triangualtion of Stevie Nicks, Dan Hicks and Siouxsie. Cool! It was great to meet you. I started getting amped up at that part of the evening, and then it was time to go.
Rats!

I didn't fall on the Insider sprint. Since I didn't get to go to the bathroom that time, I fell way later on my sprint back from really getting to go to the bathroom.
As I was whooshing by people coming back those narrow, steep, f*cking stairs, I was like "pardon me, move, best song ever, been waiting my life to hear it, scuse me, MOVE! Insider is on, why are you standing here drinking? Move!" There was a little shoving. I'm not proud, but it had to be done.:woohoo: Stupid slow, drunken, Insider ignorers. *shakes fist*. I definitely would've crawled through some briars not to miss it.

oooo, I think everyone forgot to say - I believe the first night we went to the gay bar...first? We walked in, looked up at the big screen, and who was on? Who? Who? excellent...all the details :D Thank you for providing them Paula. I love them just as well as concert reviews...and you've made it obvious you all had a blast! Excellent coastal pics...the reason I am constantly driving it...breaking cliff trails...soo very pretty. The info/vids/pics posted about the concert have me wanting to head over to Indian Wells...does anyone know if SN will be there? More than likely I will go just to see TP but I am curious if SN will be there as an added bonus. If anyone knows, please tell me. Thanks again Paula, Amber, Jazzy, Eliza, Goldenbraid, Ricky etc...very cool read

It's the one song he didn't do that I truly missed. But he more than makes up for it with Refugee, American Girl, Listen to Her Heart, You Wreck Me....

Well he didn't do "Breakdown" (and that would have been really fun,) but he seems to be adding and dropping a few songs every show, so maybe he would do it on the return to the Greek.

ok, so of course everyone picked up on an accent and of course they asked why I was in Berkeley and of course I went on and on about Stevie. everyone, cabbies, people next to me on the train, etc. were so shocked that Stevie was there and had awesome things to say about her. there is one that takes the cake. I get in the cab Saturday morning to meet for breakfast with the crew and an old hippe dude that resembled Mick actually asked me why I was there and I told him the whole story. well, he went off...he was a damn expert in FMac history and Stevie and Peter Green and Buckingham (as he called him). he then said...and I quote...

"Stevie is hot. she's one sexy lady. she's the original witchy woman and not just witchy to be witchy, but because she just is." (um, ok)

"I would eat her p**** til she climbed the walls and lick her from her bellybutton to her a**hole and back again."

need I say more? to say the least I was traumatized. it was like he was defaming my mother. at first I was flattered. (you know cause Stevie and I are tight like that) but then I was like...um, ewww.

EVER. :D

I feel so enlightened... or violated. I'm not sure which yet.

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZPIUwz5ZLgM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZPIUwz5ZLgM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Paula, your descriptions of your visit are hilarious, and it sounds like a wonderful time was had by all

I confess, I hadnt heard "Insider" before, tho I'd heard ABOUT it....the video you posted was just gorgeous. Question: does it seem to anyone else the Tom just let Stevie sort of dominate the vocal in that? like he was only singing backup for her? And, is there a "story" to that song/lyric? Did he write it about someone? by that I mean, possibly, about Stevie or singing as if from Stevie's perspective? because it certainly seems to describe her relationship with a certain someone (remember, Im new to that song, so if this has been discussed before, my apologies)

^ Well, I don't think it's ever been said that Tom wrote it about Stevie, but he did write it for her. He said knew right away that he wanted to sing it with her, and originally he planned to give it to her to use on a solo album (like he had done with "Stop Draggin...") But when it was done, he loved it so much he told her "sorry, I can't give you this song, I love it too much" or something to that effect.

Personally I do think he hangs back a bit on it. Her harmonies in Insider in particular are so incredible (then and now, IMO) and she really shines. Their voices together on this have brought me to tears on more that one occasion, and that's not a common thing for me.

Glad you liked the video. I treasure it. The actual MTV video is on youtube.
If anyone has an mp3 of the original version or the live 1980's version handy, maybe they could post it for you.

Thanks for not ripping me to shreds for asking a question that has prob already been answered many times :)

I have to say, I really REALLY enjoyed your narratives of your trip, and your PCH pix were so heart-stoppingly beautiful  I wish I could afford to go to a concert much less travel to another city/town....you guys are so lucky to be able to connect with each other in person :o

About your CA observations....most were right on the money, and so funny too! Amber mentioned that Chico wasnt as littered as most towns and I'd have to concur EXCEPT at the end of the school year when all the college students put their unwanted/unneeded furniture etc out on the sidewalks. A lot of folks go "dumpster-diving" for cool stuff at that time of year, and I know the thrift stores make out like bandits too! My daughter lives in student-ville, and she says the town even has a huge truck parked in an empty lot and people just bring their stuff there and it gets taken away (to thrift stores or group homes etc--I imagine) Ive decided to call this phenomenon "freecycling" after the internet-based activity by the same name.

Anyway, Paula, you should take up a career in writing or something, you are that funny--in the mold of Erma Bombeck and Mary Roach (from Reader's Digest)

You're welcome. It's not a well-known song really, except for crazy Stevie or Tom fans, so it's understandable. And in general it's not really my style to do that anyway. Of course, if someone pops in & asks "Who's Silver Springs about?" I might have to snark a little. ;)

And thanks to you & Ryan for the compliment. I've never thought about it before, but you guys are literally the 3rd & 4th person to tell me that since I posted this. :o I'm really flattered.
