On an album called The Best Of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac (odd, because 2 tracks aren't FM at all and one is post-Peter FM) there is a version of NYLSB identified as the "USA Version" that runs over 6 mins. From The Chain set I have the single version which comes in at just under 4 mins, but otherwise seems quite similar (after one comparison with my 4 year old chattering in the background).
Is the single just an edit of this "USA Version"? Is there another version?

OK - partially solved this myself. The 4 min version I have IS the edit of the longer version. What's the best source of the original version?

The best sounding "original" version I have heard is on the Blue Horizon box.
There you can find 3 takes of Version #1 from April 11, 1968 with Christine on piano. And 3 takes of Version #2 from May 15, 1968 with Christine on organ. And a remix of take 2, version 2 with the strings added; this is probably what you could consider the "original version". The USA version is the "original" version, with a replacement vocal and guitar track recorded in the US, October 6, 1968.
The version on The Best Of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac is actually mislabelled. It is the "original" version, and the single edit is just a shortened version of the "original".

Huge great thanks for that! That makes it all very clear for me.
