Towards the end of Illume, Stevie is singing with a muffled voice, and another woman is singing, and her voice is clearer than Stevie's. So Stevie is pretty much singing in the backround. Who is this mysterious woman?

You mean the voice that's singing the same lyrics Stevie's singing, but off-beat? I think it's Lindsey, actually.

No, really, I think it's Lindsey. He likes to play around with those studio effects ... like the "uh"s on Big Love.

Well, if you say so...it's a pretty nice effect actually.

I think it's Lindsey too. The reason why he didn't use for such a beautiful song a simpler arrangement is a mystery to me.

yep...it's Lindsey. I think Illume suffered from over-production (shocked, I know), but it is still, lyrically, a fantastic song.

Praise. Appraisal is when you judge the value of something, a la real estate.
I don't listen to it either.

Illume is Brilliant. It's just perfection. There is no other woman singing.
It is Stevie & Lindsey.

hey all - nice topic :)
when i first heard it i thought it was a tricked out lindsey in one ear (mp3 player) and a tricked out stevie in the othr ear -
but reading this it made me go back and listen again and again - LOUD _
and you know - i can't make up my mind - lol
- if i were a bettin man - i'd probably go against my gut and say
- "yep - lindsey -he can sing out of sync on purpose much easier than stevie
(meant as compliment!!!)"
but of course my gut says - "its both of them - weaving seamlessly togethr - just the way i like it !"
i love playing this when im driving for folks who don't know it -
i don't say anything about it - but just watch their heads bobbin -
by the end - they all look like bobble-heads -
anywhooooooooo . . .

I think some of her songs on SYW should have been transposed -- Illume, Say You Will, and Destiny Rules in particular. The studio versions all sound horribly flat to my ears.

Pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by 'transposed'? Thanks!

"Brilliant", yes. (my God, we agree on something, YIKES!! )
"Perfection", no. (knew it was too good to be true)
It is my 2nd favorite Stevie tune on SYW, though...right behind "Smile At You". (My fave, due to John's bass playing...what Mick lacked in imagination throughout SYW with his drumming, John made up for, in spades, with his bass lines!)

^ ITA. John's bass lines are awesome on the SYW album.

Unfortunately..may be thats all she had at the time..I agree..the vocals are too low..sounds like shes running out of gas...

Performing a song in a different key, in this case, to better suit a vocal. She's occasionally done it on tour, Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (2001) and Say You Will (2004) being recent examples.
