Okay, so I really, really want this. I got a record player a few months back.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4893411876&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
But besides that, my point is - this thing started out at 25 dollars, why do people keep bidding way before the time runs out? It just drives the price way up. If they'd started bidding just a bit before time ran out, someone could have gotten these at reasonable prices. Heck, when I last looked last night, it was still at 53 dollars. Now it's almost 100 dollars.
Is there something I'm missing? I mean, a reason to bid on things way before hand even though you know you'll drive the price way up? Do people with more money do it to take away the possibility that people will be able to outbid them? I guess sometimes it wouldn't make a difference, the price would go up high anyway - but I've also seen people just start bidding at the last, and the price stayed lower.

There could be several factors at play here.
Ebay Ignoramouses....people who don't know that bidding high early pretty much shoots down any chance of a reasonably priced deal in the end.
Maybe it is someone who is willing to pay more and doesn't mind driving the price up...
overall though I just hate what Ebay has become - I miss the old days.

I have no idea what it used to be. I just started looking at things. If I can figure out that bidding early drives the price up, surely others can. Maybe I'm just bitter because I want those records. :p

The mint condition looks great on that item. But why do you want it? Are you a vinyl completist? The sound quality on the demos is horrible on all three albums--this was compiled well before the current trend of better-sounding demos.
If you're a vinyl completist, you might also want the original vinyl bootlegs of:
1. Almanac (1979)
2. Cotton Bowl Dallas (1978)
3. Sin City Las Vegas (1977)
4. City of the Angels Las Vegas (1977)
& others I'm forgetting, including all the radio syndicate & radio station DJ vinyl copies of radio specials (like Westwood One & Robert W. Morgan) that have aired since the 1970s. I used to have a bunch of those because in those days it was the only way to hear some really old interviews that you missed on radio.

I want those because I want to be able to play them on my record player in my front room, not just my computer in the other room, because I like the covers, and because I want more records. Also, I've never seen them before. They appear to be fairly rare.
You're acting like it's strange to want those.

I'm not sure bidding early pushes the price up. Sometimes if you put your top bid in early, everyone else just won't bother and there are no more bids. You just never know how the bidding will go.
The thing to do is to bid the maximum you're happy with paying and if you get it, you get it. I don't think it makes much difference if you bid early or late. If there's someone else out there who wants to pay more, he'll pay more regardless of when you bid.
Ebay is pretty weird like that - I've seen identical items go for a huge range of prices, for no apparent reason. For months I was looking for a copy of Jeremy Spencer's first album - the one with the rest of the Mac on it - and I saw copies go for anywhere between $50-100, dozens of times. Then I picked one up for about $25 because nobody else seemed to want it  I sell a lot of stuff too, and people's bidding never ever ceases to amaze me...
This Stevie thing looks quite rare - I think maybe it was always going to be expensive ;)

that's what I'm afraid of, that all three will never come around again. That's probably stupid. I looked around online for other possible sellers, and one place had one of the albums only. Also, that one album was $62.
Have any others of you seen this for sale? How often? :wavey: *you frequent ebayers*.

sometimes those sellers on eBay will have multiple accounts for the only reason to drive up the prices of their auctions, thus making a profit...Illegal? Yeah. Immoral? Yeah...But it does happen.
As for me, I tend to look mainly at the auctions that are under the "Buy it Now" banner...Found many a great & rare disc that way.
As for the LP's in question, I have cd's sourced from those vinyls and they have a sound comparible to that of long fingernails on chalkboard (They just sold for $98.88-tsk, tsk, tsk)

I have two accounts, but I don't get involved with bidding on my own auctions, or shill bidding as it's called. What is actually more common and less easy to prove, is to get your friends or family to bid on your auction to push the price up. Illegal? No. Immoral - of course

No. Immoral - of course  I have had experiences with both of these practices. It does indeed transpire so, as with any ebay bidding, there are risks involved. If I truly want something, I usually follow-up as Amber mentioned (awaiting the final hours.) I do not place a flag on the item as the seller is notifed of said flags and I do not want them knowing I am considering a purchase. And, obviously, I never purchase from someone without a heavy track record.

have, Seen 'em several times and each time they have gone for roughly around $100
The rarest thing Fleetwood Mac related I have ever bid on (And won for $4.50) was an officially released audio cassette of the Buckingham/Nicks album on Polydor records (With a different track listing than the vinyl-Not to mention "Races Are Run" doesnt fade out, The band just quits playing in a "dead stop".)
Yeah, I never get into the shill bidding...I have only had 2 auctions up for bid since 2003 (Both were comic book lots that sold this past weekend) so I rarely sell as much as I purchase.

Oh right of course. I've always wondered, can they tell who is watching the item or do they just know that so many users are watching it?
The seller just gets a note of the number of watchers on each of his/her items - he/she can't tell who's watching.

Aw Goldmine, in the pre-internet days, it was always fun digging through some of the sellers tiny print to find goodies. I got mine in the 80's also and I think I paid around $60-$75 for the set. Hard to remember. They also came in normal black vinyl as well as colored vinyl.
The fun ones to look for in the vinyl arena:
Aussie B/N with alternate cover
Pic Disc Belladonna
Pic Disc Wild Heart
These three gave me the most trouble tracking them down. The Aussie ones show up periodically, (Hard to find before the net) - the picture discs are the most rare and hardest to find - IMO.
And yes, by waiting till the last minute you get the best price on stuff. Why? Just the way it is. I think it is because many auctions are missed, unless you search daily, and by not drawing attention to the fact you are interested, you can jumpin at the last 10 secs and get a better price. Cuts down on bidding wars. If someone else sees you are interested, they can drive the price up. If they don't see you coming, they don't have time to do so. I rarely bid until the last sec. And many do the same things. (HI Jill )

Yes Morons. But you play the game to get the stuff at the best price. If some guy bids $5 on a Stevie thing you want and you are willing to bid $50. Here what will happen. (Assuming you both really want it- and he will go $60) You bid early - $50. It goes to $6.00. He will keep bidding until he goes $52.50 which is above your budget. OR You wait until the last 10 seconds. You bid $50.00. It goes to $6. He trys to jump back in (And will 99% of the time go to $20.- not his max). If he makes it, you win at $7, if he runs out of time, you win at $6. Now, which is more moronic? Losing it at $52.50? or winning the item you really want at $7

Amber, eBay bidding snafus aside, if you can't find the original pressing of the Uncirculated Rumours set, don't waste your money.
I had the 80s repressing (all 3 LPs on red vinyl which I think is what seeker is talking about), and the sound was truly horrible. Brian's nails-on-a-chalkboard description doesn't even begin to describe it. Also, the covers were washed-out (color-wise) like they had been sitting in a sunny window for a few years.
Here's the story I heard about them - keep in mind this is Stevie lore ( :D ):
The original pressings of the UR set were made directly from Stevie's tapes (the ones that were stolen? I've never heard for sure). They sold like hotcakes. I *believe* they were all on black vinyl. Then in the mid-to-late '80s, someone else resissued them, using the original pressing as the source. A bootlegger bootlegging a bootlegger ... . But they didn't use any kind of technology to do so -- the reissued LPs sound like they played the original pressing on a turntable with a dirty needle, and set up a tape recorder in front of the speakers. All kinds of weird noises on top of Stevie's already low-tech demos. Not pretty. They also used a similar technique for the covers - just photographing the originals or some kind of weird photocopy technique - but think of a color copier or printer with low toner. Not pretty.
As for the stuff someone listed at wynnco, that looks like yet another pressing to me. I would think they did it themselves, given that wynnco created those box sets of the first 3 albums too.

Aw Goldmine, in the pre-internet days, it was always fun digging through some of the sellers tiny print to find goodies.I loved, loved, LOVED Goldmine in my pre-internet days.

I hate to be a pest, but any chance you might rip the audio from your cassette? At least for "Races Are Run"? I'd love to hear that mix.
on the day I received the cassette in the mail...You have to turn the volume up on "Races Are Run" to hear the sudden 'dead stop', but it is clearly there whereas the LP has the song end by doing an early fade out.

Anyone see Griffin on D-List? She offered a weekend at her house that was won for $73,000! Everyone backed out with excuses, and she received $0! Wrong again NIKI! There was a $5000 winning bidder for the weekend with Kathy Griffin. I love her D-list show. I found it interesting that Kathy (along with her family members) thought the winner was too 'mild-mannered' during the weekend when I have heard some celebs make statements that they prefer to be treated 'normally.' I wonder if wanting to be treated normally is really the case or most are secretly disappointed someone wasn't "OMG!"

i saw that! i don't think she needs fans to fawn over her, but i think she's definitely used to her flamers!
i dunno, i thought that guy's blase attitude was kinda rude. she did a lot of nice stuff for him, and he didn't even seem grateful.

Pictures? Hopefully there's just the one. I haven't had any publicity in awhile, feel free. Do you think I should do an updated photo shoot, since I've lost some weight? Do you want to wait for those to come out? Do you think we should sell them on ebay?
How did you manage to muster that much passionate hate about Pecan Sandies? I mean, I really like them, but even I wouldn't have used biggest font, all caps. Besides, I heard you did suck.

i could go on and on about how sandies are dry and bland while pepperidge farms shortbread cookies are succulent and buttery and delicious ... but instead i'll let you languish in your own world of substandard cookies. :)
and speaking of buttery and delicious ... stevie's voice on TISL ... gawd!
