All I can say is that this performance, although historical is also wacky & bizzare. Just when you think you've seen it all, Stevie hands her tamborine to Bill Clinton and then Michael Jackson walks upon stage with her.... WOW.

I always crack up when I think about this. I remember hearing her talking about it in an interview, saying that Bill was there beside her looking a bit lost, so she gave him the tambourine ... unfortunately she forgot that it had been deadened [sp?] so it wouldn't make any noise. So he's there banging this tambourine, making no sound at all, going, "Jee, thanks" and she's there trying to sing and at the same time saying "I'm really sorry Bill....!"

There isn't a bigger "diva" move than that.

I guess the four musicians are plugged in, but it's kinda hard to tell just where they end & the tape begins. At first I didn't see a cable from Lindsey's Turner into a jack, but I think I see one now. Chris mentioned a few times in the past that the band taped the song in the studio, so I guess that the recording was used to anchor the band during this "live" performance.

David, what makes you feel that the band's performance is augmented by a studio recording? The sound seems somewhat sparse and natural to my ears.

Just a little hunch.I was just wondering if there was something I wasn't picking up on... an extra bit of instrumention we shouldn't be hearing or some other tell-tale sign.

Lindsey's lead seems accounted for, but the rhythm section doesn't sound totally accounted for to me. Plus Chris mentioned rerecording the song, so it must have been for this event. It's all they did that year.

It's all they did that year.I remember her saying that they re-recorded it for the 1993 reissue, but I've checked my cassette-single, and it's most definitely the original recording.

Perhaps they did augment the live sound for this performance... it sure sounds "natural" to me though.

I'd have shrinked away from him and yelled "freak!" if I were Stevie. But that's just me.

Fleetwood Mac sounded like they hadn't even *rehearsed* together in 15 years from what I remember of their performance.

Two things

1 That DOG of a jacket makes Stevie look 40 pounds heavier because if she is not that fat if you look closely.

2. The Queen of Soul represented it that night in that white outfit only she could pull off and which only punctuated the yellow one she wore when she sang the shiitte out of "I Dreamed a Dream."

I thought the same. Not a good choice I'm afraid. One of the few times the top hat didn't quite work.
For whatever reason... :(
