View Full Version : Worst Stevie Tour

What do you think is the worst tour stevie ever did?
For me, it's Whole Lotta Trouble (Timespace.) She's just so klonopined out and so unemotional. Not to mention her horrendous wardrobe change. The bustlers and sholder pads, what was up with that? so un stevie. post your opinions here, and give an answer, not just a vote.

I don't really know what tour to vote for - they are all really good. I loved Stevie's voice on the Timespace tour, and the same with Street Angel - I will have a listen to my boots and think about it :o

I was disappointed in TISL, but poor Stevie had just come back from several cancelled shows due to illness. So I'll cut her some slack. :p

I agree with what you say about it. But I think in retrospect it had at least some things that appealed to me that the TISL tour didn't even have: legendary platform boots & "If Anyone Falls," whereas the TISL shows I saw (& walked out of--Irvine Meadows, Santa Barbara, Universal Amphitheatre) just held no appeal for me at all. In fact, that is the last year I saw Stevie solo. Just no appeal for me at all--that's just not the way I like my music.

But certainly I'd vote for Timespace 2nd in this poll.

i c what u mean. Not as much boots, and some of the shows lacked just the whole stevie feeling, the dreamy enchatedness. But a few of the shows i saw on that tour were fantastic. i 2 miss the boots, and not enough rhiannon sleeves either!

I've been able to see all of Stevie's tours except the first, and I have to say the OSOTM tour was the worst. By the time I saw her at Shoreline near San Francisco, the set was cut, but she managed to keep the horrible Two Kinds of Love in it. It was just awful-I suppose I blame the klonopin. I read somewhere she didnt remember a whole solo tour. OSOTM was obviously it.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone could say TISL was her worst tour... I mean, yea... she had problems with bronchitis or whatever, but my gawd... she took the stage like, what, four days after we were attacked?! And she was in NYC when it happened, she SAW the smoke and rubble... most of us didn't! It was just too surreal... I saw her here one month to the day of the attacks. Whew... I dunno, man. I can't imagine how hard it was for her, really. Dang man. Do ya feel me or wha? :( She was already nervous with the new album and tour after 10 years... Oh well. :wavey:

I was just saying as far as performances went- I was most disappointed in her on this tour. My own excitement and expectations may have played a big part, but like I said- she was just coming off a major illness. She seemed extremely lethargic and uninterested. At the time I said that I felt she was NOT emotionally present, at all. Didn't change my love, respect, and obssession for her any, though!!! :woohoo:

Oh I hear ya... the first time I saw her solo was Enchanted tour and I was waaay excited and had lots of expectations. All I had seen and heard of her solo work up until then was old footage from her wildest years. I had the same feeling coming away from that show, that she seemed lethargic, uninterested, not emotionally present, etc. In fact, I figured she would never come back to Portland again. I was thinking at the time she hated Portland. But, I came to realize over time, Stevie just doesn't rock it like she used to. And I agree, it doesn't change my love, respect, etc for her either. :xoxo:

I saw a terrific, wide-awake, frisky, special-guest-sheryl-Crow, Bombay Saphires-in-the-set-list, excellent band, TISL show, so I can't imagine that being the worst tour.

I saw a pathetic, glassy-eyed, can't-step-over-a-mic-cable-without-a-roadie's-assistance, zonked-out, Michael Anthony-as-musical-director, Timespace show, so, of course, I think that one has to be the worst tour.

Well from all the bootlegs I've listened to, I definitely have to go with the Timespace Tour. They're just so boring! She put no emotion into the songs whatsoever, and she barely said a word but Thank you every once in a while. OSOTM would be my second choice. I blame them both on Klonopin.

OSOTM, for me, definately. It was the first time I had ever seen her in her Frankenbocks and I was frightened. I knew from the first verse of 'Outside The Rain' that we were in trouble that night, she seemed foggy and distant and was barely even trying. Blame it on the klonopin, I walked away from that show depressed at losing the Stevie that I loved.
One saving grace that night, her performances of both 'Alice' and 'Juliet' were ok. Since these songs didn't expend alot of effort in the studio either they translated well to the stage.

I think what happened was--& you guys can verify this by searching the BLA--that she busted her foot on something & so early on in the tour for a week or two had to wear those Frankenboks. But once her foot healed, she was back to her Stevie platforms, & stayed in them throughout the rest of the 1989 solo tour, the entire 1990 Fleetwood Mac tour, the entire 1991 solo tour, the entire 1994 solo tour, the entire 1997 Fleetwood Mac tour & the entire 1998 solo tour.

Then an unsettling thing happened: on her shows for the millennium in '99 & 2000, those Frankenboks started showing up again. That was the beginning of the end for some fans.

Timespace tour simply for the whoroneous wardrobe choices and unflattering hair style (way to work the mulllet Stevie!). Case in point:

Someone seriously should have called the fashion police on this woman!. I would consider Stevie a fashion victim at this time as opposed to fashion icon.

TOSOTM tour had a stunning rendition of Rooms on Fire and it was the first time she ever performed it so I could never vote for that tour. Alice rocked as well although I'll admit it wasn't Stevie at her liveliest.

to me, it's not the outfit or the hair, etc., but the combination of all. on their own, they rock in their own way.

Yeah, I was at that show also and left quite disappointed. So much so that I didn't go to Timespace or Street Angel shows (I regret not going to SA).

I didn't know the OSOTM set was cut, but seems like they are all cut by the time they get to California. There was no POTU or B. Sapphire by the time I saw TISL.

This cracks me up. The entire fan community raved about the Mirror & Timespace concerts at that time. You couldn't open a fanzine in 1991/1992 without reading fans' gushy tributes to these shows & how wonderful Stevie Nicks looked & sounded. So it's only in retrospect to look down on these tours? What? am I that influential? I just don't buy all this fickleness.

It looks like a short list but in reality it really feels like a long show when I watch the bootlegs. Most songs are 6 mins +.

Not this one, at least for OSOTM. I can still remember turning to the stranger next to me after it ended and expressing my disappointment.

Every song was indeed around 6 minutes or more, but the first 1 or 2 minutes is just instrumental waiting for Stevie to come spinning slowly from backstage.

Oh I definately agree. I remember reading a fanzine (can't remember the name or who put it together) and they were gushing over the 'Behind The Mask' shows and I was like "wait a minute. Did I not attend this same tour? Where was I when Stevie was unleashing her furious vocals and spinning like a dervish?"

LOL I remember that! There was a costume change for every song, and what costumes! 12 different versions of the same padded shoulder bathrobe things with hats to match! This bathrobe look (shudder) was accentuated with the Frankenbocks at the Jones Beach shows I caught and combined with the lethargic material and performance led me believe that I had just witnessed a very very different Stevie indeed. I also expressed my disappointment to my friends after the show, I waited all summer for those shows and was really let down.

I was at the same shows. I'm originallly from Long Island. :wavey:

As far as Stevie's outfits go, I was probably wearing something similar to each show. She was just a part of the times, that's all. ANd you know, I do remember being vaguely disappointed, since my first live experiences with STevie were during Rock A Little. But you (me) kept this whole denial thing going because well, it was Stevie, and she could do no wrong.

But we all go into that state at different times. Some people might have been there in 1989, whereas I would say I was there much earlier--back in 1980 or so. (I'm probably older than you are.)

So by the time 1989 rolled around, I was definitely already asking myself with a certain amount of doubt, "Do I really want to drive to the neighboring city to see this woman play?" My Stevie suspension of disbelief was essentially dissipated by then.

And I think that attitude influenced the initial perception of those performances for many fans.

No, I kind of feel the same way. If anything, I remember knowing exactly why Stevie was spending so much time during RAL shows, and thinking it was funny. I was probably dying to do the same thing, but wouldn't leave the show to do it. I don't think I *ever* worried about Stevie until TISL. That's weird, but I always felt that no matter what, she would totally overcome anything...weight gain, drug use, whatever.
