This should be Rhiannon from midnight special. If you really haven't seen it (which seems unlikely) you might die from the awesomeness. One of my favorite things about it is the cute double take smiles Lindsey throws at Stevie around 2:24 ish. Heartbreakingly adorable.
And her teeth are awesome here. They should've had their own song.

Now you can actually buy your very own official DVD copy of "Rhiannon" on the Midnight Special here:

It's only $9.95 plus shipping & handling!

We still need to accurately date this performance. I say somewhere around December 1975 to February 1976.

Thanks for posting this. I'm finally at a computer that could play it. I had to laugh...Stevie is like undergoing an self exorcism at the end. She so reminds me of Joplin.

Midnight Special was a great rock concert show for its time. One of the very few TV shows featuring rock performances...every Saturday night at midnight. Imagine, you could actually watch a rock show on television. What a novel idea. This was way before MTV or VH1 so no music videos, DVD's or VHS.

newsflash: sometimes when Lindsey appears to be looking over at stevie, he's actually looking at chris. stevie at her mic is often in his line-of-sight to chris. Musicians have to occasionally look at one another for technical reasons, in addition to looking at what they themselves are doing.

I think many of us have low-generational copies on VHS tape. Unfortunately with "Why" & "Over My Head," those two performances were not broadcast on VH1 several years ago when that channel was showing old Midnight Special shows. So with "Rhiannon" & "World Turning" we had the opportunity to upgrade, but the other two are in bad shape in people's collections.

And now of course you can buy Rhiannon in 5.1 sound on DVD, remastered, through the Midnight Special affiliates with the link I posted earlier.

edit: I have computer files (like windows media or something) of both Why & Over My Head. If i send them to someone, maybe they can be uploaded to YouTube.

I just got really into it a bit ago. Stevie is in it, her floating head harmony is massive. It's a beautiful Christine song.
"Why did you give up. Why is it all wrong. Why don't you love me. Why don't you just be strong." or something like that. It's gorgeous.

"Why" is a Christine McVie composition. It's the last track on the Mystery To Me album and was played often on the 1975 tour.

I gotta say I've never felt that the live performances of this song with Lindsey have been able to live up to the beauty of the studio track (this is one of very few instances where I don't really care for Stevie's harmonies, either), although the Midnight Special performance sounds a lot better to me than the "live in the studio" rehearsal performance. (Thanks for the link, amber!)

Here's the studio track, for those who (once again, shamefully) don't yet own Mystery To Me:

I just watched Rhiannon and my God Stevie looks like a baby, not a day over 17 and her teeth are so perfect! I'm not used to seeing her at this time period, I'm an 80's freak! My only complaint is that I really wish they hadn't been zooming in on Chris' hands during the breakdown when Stevie was probably dancing and twirling. Who wants to see hands on a piano when Stevie is dancing?

Well, probably some people do. I love that piano part, myself, I always miss it on all the other Rhiannons. But i would rather see Stevie woozing around. But it's only fair to show the whole band.

You're right, it's only fair to show the rest of the band but the truth is I would be perfectly contented if the camera stayed on Stevie the whole time . Of course that goes for every show where Stevie is on the stage. Even during Lindsey's songs on the SYW tour my eyes never came off Stevie (even if she was at the side of the stage simply standing there). I'm such a chiffonhead!
Thanks again for posting these Amber :)

Well, probably some people do. I love that piano part, myself, I always miss it on all the other Rhiannons. But i would rather see Stevie woozing around.I would too, surprisingly enough. There's no reason to see Christine play her vamp; hearing it is enough. But Stevie is doing a splendid witch dance & that's what we should have seen.

somewhere if I can find it I have some video file of fleetwood mac performing at day on the green in May 1977 & you can see stevie's witch dance during rhiannon. In those days, of course, it was cool. I remember her black widow's weeds flapping in the breeze at the outdoor show in santa barbara on the rumours tour. She knew just how to move. Nowadays, it's ridiculous--some lumbering, slow, ungainly twirls--& that's if anything's there at all.

so really as much footage from the '75-'82 witch dances is essential for any stevie nicks fan (except people like joe).

I do like the more understated guitar intro compared to Lindsey's earlier intros for this song, although one of the reason no live tracks live up to the studio version for me is that I can never get enough of Bob Weston's stunning intro. Wow really? It's exciting when I feel like I actually know something on this board amung all of the million-post, tour history memorized, massive bootleg collector, know-it-all's (Don't get me wrong, I love you all. You know all the answers to my questions).

I mean, of course, the studio version of Why is amazing. I do love this particular one, as I said before. I haven't heard another performance with this particular intro solo, which is disapointing. I wish I had one that was of nicer quality.

I'm just a know-it-all, not a tour history memorizer or massive bootleg collector! There's a lot of bootleg stuff that I haven't heard.

I never really care for most Fleetwood Mac bootlegs. Rumours era, that is - there's not really any need for me to collect any Green era bootlegs with all the officially released stuff out there, and there's hardly anything out there at all from the Welch years. The only Fleetwood Mac bootlegs I've got on my computer/iPod right now are "Live in the Studio 1975" and the Memphis Mirage concert. I had the Tusk tour rehearsals, the Baton Rouge 1978 show, and the Buffalo Say You Will show, but I ended up deleting them because I just didn't really like them and never listened to them (sound quality wasn't that great on any of them, either). I might end up deleting the Mirage concert soon, too. The 1975 studio concert is a keeper, though.

I have a Denver Mirage show which I prefer to the Memphis one.

I think I have all the other stuff you mentioned, but probably haven't actually listened to it all.
