After all this talk among different threads about Stevie's security - I thought I'd add my own thoughts:

At the Auckland show, I found the security to be fair, but they were taking cameras off people

At the New Plymouth show - the security was slack - people were jumping in the lake around the stage, and trying to climb onto the stage.

The worst one however was Stevie's security at the Christchurch show - after they let people up the front for the encore - some girl climbed on stage and walked right over to Stevie and hugged her - SHE COULD HAVE HAD A KNIFE OR ANYTHING  We all know that there are some weird Stevie fans (i.e. the fan who was going to kidnap her so she could 'cure' his homosexuality) and where were the security? to busy taking people's cameras away from the fans

Add your tales of Security stupidity below...

the worst security i've encountered has been in detroit - for both the syw show and the stevie-don show. but i think it was venue security - not stevie's. honestly, they actually affect people's enjoyment of the show. you can't take a step away from your seat without someone yelling at you. and i was so stressed about rushing the stage during edge because they wouldn't even let people start inching towards the aisles during the song before - so of course, that made it WORSE, because when edge started, there was an even madder crush and rush to get to the front. and the second edge was done, they were cracking the whip to get us all away from the stage again.

nice security? scranton, PA for the syw tour. they let me up to the stage and i was there for the entire show (thanks also to the very nice front row people who let me squeeze in with them). :)

It was BATB - the last song in the encore. She just hugged Stevie, and Stevie said "One can never have to many hugs." - She was cool about it, but... :distress:

I've had two great experiences with her security. One was at the Philly show w/Don - they told everyone at the door that they could bring a camera in; the 2nd was at Nissan for her G.D. tour - at the beginning of Edge when everyone starts to rush up, we started to walk fastly, but not running or anything and one of the security guys said, "there's plenty of room up front, everyone just don't run, don't want you to trip or anything" :blob1:.

I've had two encounters that showed just how much of a smartass they can be. At Hershey for FM, we were 1st row Liddy's side and everyone in the 1st 3 rows in the middle & on Stevie's side were allowed writstbands to go up to the stage WAY before concert started, we weren't and when I asked one of the security guards about it, I told him we were 1st row and he pointed to the wall in front of us & said that we could go stand there all we wanted:rolleyes: & after Dreams, this other security guard came over & told us to go up to the stage. 2nd one - I ran into Stevie's HUGE bodyguard for the Camden show and he had a FM crew shirt on and when I asked him if he was looking forward to the concert that night he told me he didn't know what I was talking about another  .

I had a seat way back in the pavilion. I was up there chatting with people I knew, and before I knew it, it was like 5 min to showtime and I said to myself "I'm not going anywhere uuntil someone tells me to!" But I didnt bring my camera that night because I didnt know I was going to be up there.:( But I did get some fantastic pictures at San Diego in '03 and Green Bay '04. I have them both framed at my house. One day I'll have to post some of them. Another thing, wasnt it amazing how everyone worked together at that show to make sure Ashley could touch Lindseys guitar and stuff? I mean no one yelld SIT DOWN! or anything like that. I've never been a part of something like that night. It was truly magical. Especially after some of the bullshit that went on in places like Reno in '03.

When my friend and I went last summer to see Stevie in Charlotte, we were so excited to have third row. We made friends with the security guy and he walked us up to the stage. He was so cute- excited for us! We actually stayed at Stevie's feet until halfway through the show when some heinous bitch and her friends made us move (so that they could talk during the whole show- I can't tell you how much I hated them).

Well, being a musician myself, flash photography at a show is actually incredibly dangerous for the performer. As most people know, the flash temporarily blinds you, and for a performer, that could mean the chance of not seeing the edge of the stage and falling off.

It pisses me off when I see people taking photos with a flash at concerts. There's WAY enough stage lighting to take photos without a flash. Even when the stage lights are awash with blue lights.

I think most of the problems with security at shows occur from VENUE SECURITY, not Stevie's personal security. Her personal security usually do not interfere with fans taking pictures, etc. They leave that stuff to venue security. Venue security always depends on the venue. I also have found that the venue security at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim is terrible. When I saw Stevie there last summer, they were just evil. Telling the first 3 rows they could come to the stage during Edge before the show started, then when it actually happened, they formed a barricade and locked arms and only allowed the front row.
It was kind of interesting Stevie went to spots of the stage where no-one was there, because about half of the front row wasn't interested..so she seemed to be a little confused as to why no fans were in some spots.

Yes, but we had to stand behind this evil woman and her friends and seriously- they talked the entire rest of the show. It was as if BEING at the stage was more important than the moment itself, if that makes any sense. You could tell by what they were saying that they'd been to several shows on this tour. I really can't describe how much I hated them- they even left at one point to go get beer! Anyway, that was the show (after 25 years worth of Stevie concerts) that I actually got to hold Stevie's hand. And the beeyotch in front of me? Stevie bypassed her- HAH!

Good point! I never use flash for my concert photos. I just think that it is rude for the performers and also as you pointed out it can be dangerous. I would never want anyone to be hurt just so I could get a great photo. Sometimes people don't think, however.

i had a discussion with stevie and patrick pendergrast (general manager )from am presents in newcastle about security, at the venue it is venue staff, we had problems in melbourne with some camera nazis and one wanna be security woman who pushed a 12 year old girl, but in sydney and newcastle and gold coast and adelade had no issues, ,having patricks business card helped as well, stevie said she likes to see the crowd up dancing at the stage ,in australia they let the front five rows up to the stage for the whole show, except for the melbourne show for some reason, patrick told me he had some complaints from people who had front row seats and people in front of them where standing and dancing, well i think they should not go to a rock concert if there going to complain about that, i dont know if it is any different in the usa , but stevie did not have any security gaurds with her at the hotel

All this kvetching is ridiculous. People act as if they had a legal right to stand & dance & be obstructive. It's the pervasive selfishness of the times: the sense of entitlement, the "me me ME" attitude that infects society. I have no sympathy for their views or for them. Behavior is dictated by the venue. If the people who buy the tickets in the front row don't want to cavort like children, it doesn't automatically become the prerogative of the people behind them to move up in front of them & stand all evening. Nothing like this occurs at any sort of theatrical performance other than rock concerts, which are uncivilized & brutish. All I can say to the civilized people in the front row who want to keep seated is: Avoid rock concerts entirely & go to the opera instead, where no one will cavort like a maniac in front of you all night long.

I don't know about Stevie's security, but I was just at a Billy Joel concert in Philly on Thursday & their security wasn't much. My husband & I went in at a restaurant around back of the Wachovia Center which they call the Cingular Pavilion. The security people were yelling, "Women, have your handbags open & everyone have your ticket ready". Well, they didn't even look in my handbag & they had wands, but didn't even wand us. And you know with the rep that Philly has, you'd think they be a little more security conscience.

On the first SYW show I went to, I was so mesmorized by Beautiful Child, that about 3/4 of the way through I realized I was the *only* person standing. I kind of had my hands clasped under my chin and was staring adoringly. God, you know Stevie went backstage and was like, "Uh, the girl in the 5th row...security???"

I never had any problems at any FM shows or the Stevie show in Grand Prairie, Texas in regards to taking photos. When Seteca and I went to the Birmingham, England show though...I had my camera in my purse and went through with no problems. Security made Seteca empty his pockets and he took out his camera. They said "You have to leave that. No cameras." WTH?

Now...at The Woodlands show, the guy at the gate made me open my WALLET. I saw like "Umm..it's just my wallet." and he waved me through. My camera was down in my purse in a little black bag. I got some of my best FM pics that night.

When I went to see Justin Guarini in Beaumont, TX a couple of years ago, there was a camera Nazi. She kept coming over to me and saying "Put the camera away. No pictures." and I kept on taking video and pics. LOL You can hear the dumba$$ on my video too. I was also with a group of ladies with a full on video camera taking the entire thing. BWAH!!

At Keith Urban shows, you can take all the pictures you want as long as it's not a professional camera and no video is taken. *ahem* I've taken video. :p I think a lot of artists realize that stopping people from taking pics is silly and putting rules like no professional cameras is a good thing. One guy brought this gigantic camera and lens to the Keith show in Oklahoma and they made him put it away. I was afraid there would be a scuffle, but there wasn't.

I think it also depends on the venue and the artist... I'll never understand, aside from possible legal reasons and safety for the performer (the whole flash thing), why the hell security gets so uptight about taking pictures. Or why they even have to be so mean about it.

When I saw Cyndi Lauper in December, people -myself included -were taking pictures everywhere. I saw a lot of camera phones behind hed up (heh, you used to hold lighters up at a concert... now you hold a cell!)
I got some videos, too. The guy behind me had what looked like a pro cam. No one told him off, but now I wonder the kind of pics he got... I want them!!!
