I'll post my thoughts on SS later,being lazy right now, but up in the first verse you have:

Your shining over ocean crashing

and it should be

Your shining autumn...ocean crashing

For a long time I thought she was saying "shining armour...ocean crashing"

I think this will be a good one to interp. though :)

As Stevie says in the Dance, "Silver Springs is a great old song"!

I love this song. Although, the original is nice, the Dance version seems to have a lot more passion to it. Stevie's voice alone is amazing and the lyrics are incredible! My favorite line in this song is, "I'll follow you down till the sound of my voice will haunt you". Those lyrics are very haunting and really stay with you.

It is a beautiful song describing what I think Lindsey could have been to her, had he not been so into his music. I think that she is basically saying that Lindsey could have been everything to her and that no matter what happens between them, he will never forget her and never be able to get away from her. It is a love song of sorts and there is nothing like seeing Stevie sing this song to Lindsey with all her passion, heart and soul.

Easy enough extremely REPETITVE but i think that was obviously the point of the song. To make him or even the BOTH of them realize that there will always be something there between them no matter how much he denies it or flaunts the PAST for that matter.This is simply another exquisite glimpse inside her restless soul that needs his undying love.The difference between this song though and all her other love songs about him is that the live performance means so much more.Battle between their love and hate for eachother.Battle between her voice and his guitar.Neither of them ends up winning in the end because they realize the inevitable truth that there will ALWAYS be something there between them.

Oh yeah she was tagged for doing a lot of stuff->In Mick's book they were talking about all the rumours that were flying around during the making of this album and that the new name for the album was "brilliantley apt". What I had heard wasn't that that was necessarily the "original" version of the song, it was just ONE of the demo versions. I love the In Her Own Words site, but be careful, because it is just these isolated quotes...they're good and they're interesting to read (and I usually steal one or two for my final interps ;) ) but they are out of context...

I cannot remember where, but Stevie summed up the words to Silver Springs as this...it was a song to Lindsey referring to what he could have been to her. Things went bad in their relationship but she still loved him. But now they were over and she had to tell him that now that the relationship IS over, that he could have been that place for her. One day she was driving through Maryland and saw the sign for Silver Springs and she thought to herself..what a wonderful sounding place..a place of solitude and beauty and pure happiness..and thats when she wrote this song..because thats exactly what Lindsey was to her..and could have been in the future if things had worked out.

My favorite line is "youll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you..Ill follow you down till the sound of my voice will haunt you"..and 20 years later..this still seems true..they are still in each others lives and SHE still impacts him. He has never gotten away ..I like that LOL :)

Yay Janet! I LOVE it. I remember hearing Stevie say that. How SS sounded like a pretty fabulous place and that's what he could have been to her. It so sad when you really think about. That quote is really sad. Yep they are so much apart of each others lives and always will be.

You said it perfectly....Those lines are that your fav lines-ditto without a doubt those are the strongest lines in the song-I don't til this day how they perform this song with eachother because of how intense it is....BUT lucky for us huh?I think they perform together because->"when we sing those songs together..it's almost like we are back in love for that moment"-S.N.(or something to this effect)
I heard a RUMOUR too that at sometime during "The Dance" tour that when she sang "was I just a fool" he looked toward her and shook his head.The best performance of this song is at the LAST concert on this tour that I have on tape-I'm trying to describe it~~~

~~~~~~She's belting it out,Lindsey almost tries to wave her closer to him with his eyes;but she keeps walking the opposite direction backwards, then the last few lines he struts up to her,he looks at her with this weird, awkward intense glare with a big grin on his face,she puts his arm on his shoulder,and he's sitting there playing with her hair before the final guitar parts.At the end of the song they both put their hands in a fist and put it on to their heart as if to say "that meant a lot" and then neither of them can help it they give eachother a kiss and hug and Lindsey was even sobbing a bit because he put his hand to his face and had is head on her shoulder.
It's almost as if the song ended the exact OPPOSITE way it did on the commercial release.If anyone has seen this you know what I'm talking about-but it's really hard to explain because it was such an emotional moment.I'M SUCH A STEVIE/LINDSEY/MAC FREAK: I've watched that tape only 3 times but I CAN'T forget that performance!

So now that we got all that cleared up and your going to buy it~I thought that EVERYONE should add another FAUCET to this discussion, about this beautiful song.I was thinking about this because on the "Rumours" board "FM GAME" I plugged in the song "I don't wanna know", for the letter "I"~Which lead me to thinking :confused:How does EVERYONE feel about the song that replaced a (lets face it) BETTER song???It's not hard to understand Stevie's frusteration-......................

HOWEVER I think and even KNOW that "Silver Springs" was released the way it was and at the time it was for a reason or two or three~ (theres probably countless reasons)but for now....
ONE-Stevie's grammy nomination
TWO-Even more emphisis on what the song was really about
THREE-And a door to rediscovering or discovering this great,songwriter and even further a great band!

As for your question on why "Silver Springs" was done on the "Dance". Stevie said it was just casually brought back(to be included) this time. It wasn't done to be a hit or anything like that. I think what happened to "Silver Springs" this time was microscopic as far as commercial success goes to what would have happened if it was released as a single back in the 70s. The most important thing about releasing it on "The Dance" was that the song got some of the recognition that it deserved and it brought a lot of new Mac fans into the fold. Who knows, maybe there was a reason it was left off "Rumours"! :)

I see the blue-green crashing as the gorgeous blue green waves crashing on the shore of the ocean! Lindsey and Stevie use water and rain in many of their lyrics!
Lindsey's eyes are blue-green sometimes so the ocean reminds her of his gorgeous eyes that said everything to her...he can give a look for sure! Break your tender heart !
My family vacationed at Silver Springs, Maryland and it is a lovely, tranquil area as you say and sounds so pretty! So many things
in their lyrics are parallel to my own life experiences it scares me a little! ;)

Well I think most things have been said but this song means the world to me too Becky. And after just coming off a break up myself I think I can help...

Stevie is saying in this song what could have been but what wasn't. It never happened, it never followed through and those are the worst kind of relationships as it's hard to move on, no closure. She loved Lindsey (we know it's about him) but she isn't quite sure how he feels or how their feelings have evolved. She feels he loved her, but she says "she doesn't want to know" - cause the truth hurts and she'd rather feel he did and that they did love each other than hear him say he doesn't anymore. "I said I loved you years ago - I tell myself you never loved me - NO."

She knows she could have given him so much but he wouldn't let her in her eyes. (Kind of the opposition to GYOW - If I could baby I'd give you my world?) I think they both wanted to give so much and felt that something got in the way of that and their relationship never got to closure - why it took years for closure to occur.

She knows in her heart he will never, ever forget her. He will hear her on the radio (as she's stated) and it will haunt him. He will never completely get over her - she warns him.

I read somewhere the blue-green colors flashing were the road signs and lights on the way to Silver Spring MD when they were on tour on a bus. I also feel blue-green could be Lindsey's eyes. The way they sparkled.

Beautiful song and I know you will do it justice Becky. Sad song too. I think we all have a Silver Spring!
