Note: You can click on city, country, genre, etc., to re-sort the list that way. The little cassette icon on the left means there's an mp3 posted.

Yes, folks, it's that time of year again....I know it's a lot to sort through, but you haven't let me down yet! I value your opinions and they are always greatly appreciated!

WHO should I add to my list???

I've been utilizing the "add to calendar" feature, so I just copied and pasted what I've got so far. Some of these are "must sees," some are just friends of mine, some are bands other people told me to check out, but I may have a conflict (nothing is stopping me from seeing The Pretenders, for example), and some bands I found on my own, cuz they're just weird or unique (check out Ex-girl - LOL!)...bands listed as playing at 11:11 AM are currently shown as TBAs on the list, they're still finalizing the line-up times for that night. I just hope my boys deSol are not playing the same time as The Pretenders. I know they've got a day gig at Redrum too. The High Times party is Thursday afternoon. :) Most bands play during the day too (record stores, parties, etc.) so I can always try to see them then if I have a conflict in the evening.

Why? Who are their influences? How did the band form? (she asks, in typical same old, same old, boring interview fashion).

Your list looks good. I definitely applaud the B&S, Neko Case, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah choices. Do your very best to see Clap Your Hands. I LOVE their record, it is my favorite of last year, and they are great live. I had so much fun.

I can't handle looking at that giant list and not wanting to cry.

Young aussies. When you hear them you hear early Sabbath, Led Zep. Not contemporary sounding but perversely EARLY 70's. But with an impressive poprockfeel. Nasty. AND smooth.

www.wolfmother.com The soundclip you can find there is one of their softer pieces.

Jessi Colter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are lucky!

I had the pleasure of meeting her 2 years ago - she went to her son's SXSW showcase, Shooter Jennings. Same night I met Kris Kristofferson, Drea de Matteo and Johnny Knoxville.

it's so cool that you're going to see Echo & The Bunnymen, i started liking them only in the second phase of their career (since evergreen) and the first time i'm gonna see them live is this wednesday!

damn you with that lists of nameless artists! still, if you wanna add some excellent singers/songwriters to your list, i highly reommend beth orton, isobel campbell, and martha wainwright.

I doubt I'll make it to Echo and The Bunnymen, for fear of not getting into Morrissey if I'm not there early enough. It's a short walk to the Austin Music Hall from the Whisky Bar...I won't have to go across the river for Echo and then come back. Logistics, location, location, location! Very important when planning one's attack. This year's festival is 1300 bands in 63 venues. Yikes! And anyone I can't see at night, at their "official" showcase, I can probably catch during the day somewhere at an in-store appearance or party. Unless you've done it, you really can't appreciate the magnitude of this thing...

Nameless -that's sort of the whole point of this festival - relatively unknown bands getting their name out there. I remember when no one here had heard of Bush, Franz Ferdinand, White Stripes, The Killers, etc., until they were touted as the next big thing, THE buzz band of that year's festival.

Here's a list of just some of the day shows - scroll to March 15:

isobel campbell.

Is she playing WITH Mark Lanegan? They just finished a duetalbum together. If you can see her WITH him it's an even better deal: a great singer-songwriter together with a magnificent male voice. maybe the best around these days....

i'm sorry, but the only names i could recognize there were the ark and Stan Ridgway, and neither of them are recommended.

not at all, in fact quite the contrary, their name must have slipped my eyes in that long list. i love them dearly, and you should definitely check them out too. i just hope they're not performing at the same time as morrissey or the pretenders, so you won't have to skip a great concert to attend a superb one.

I was making a reference to a lyric of a Stan Ridgeway tune, "Mexican Radio." (I wish I was in Tijuana...eating barbecued iguana). Or did you get that and you're just f*cking with me? :xoxo:

Correction: Yes, Kristofferson and Jessi Colter WILL be performing together at the Austin Music Awards. :blob1:

I'm starting to freak out cuz I don't completely have my sh*t together yet - but my house and car are clean, laundry's done - I'm getting a haircut tomorrow, nails on Wed.

I just woke up after stumbling in at 6 AM this morning...I saw everyone I really wanted to see - and then some! I'll post some pics and more reviews when I get a chance (after coffee and a long, hot soak in the tub - the soles of my feet are still pissed off at me)...some standouts - Pretenders!!!

Juliette Lewis and the Licks were surprisingly fantastic! She surfed the crowd, was WILD onstage - kinda had this Hedwig (and the Angry Inch) stage presence about her.

Arctic Monkeys were fun - I met and had a pic taken with David Fricke from Rolling Stone, after we talked about Roky Erickson for awhile... Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet were good (I went to their meet and greet at the trade show, got autographs and a pic w/ Susanna). I'm in love with a 19-year-old hot, lead singer from Sign, they're from Iceland.

Andy Dick cancelled - they could have told me that at the door before I bought a drink. Oh well...sounds like Andy had plenty to drink while in town.

Other celeb sightings: On Wednesday, Paul _______ (?), the bald, gap-toothed comedian from Best Week Ever walked past me while I was waiting to get into the Canadian BBQ party. I saw him again last night, they were filming on 6th St. REALLY cool dude, and so was his crew. They offered to take a pic of us w/ my camera, I didn't even ask, so that was cool.

I said a quick hello to Pamela Des Barres while she was rushing out of the Whisky to her car. We did a "fingertip" handshake, she was sweet. No pic, dammit...her thing was just people reading excerpts from her books, which were hilarious!

Elijah Wood was at the Wolfmother show (loved them!) - at the Pretenders, Lance Armstrong and Bob Schneider. And Norah Jones was standing 3 people over to my left - we were under the outside bar.

John Popper and Martin Chambers (drummer from the Pretenders) were both at the after-hours party I went to last night.

My biggest complaint during this year's SXSW was overcrowding at the clubs. The AMH was WAY too crowded for Morrissey...and the shot bars on 6th St. that are not normally live music venues should never be allowed to have live music during SXSW (Soho Lounge, Exodus). sh*tty sound, poor sight-lines. Just sh*tty...

Susanna Hoffs!! She's such a nice Jewish girl. You must post the pic with you and her. Her second solo album, Susanna Hoffs, is really good but out of print (easy to find though).

Their album's not out yet, so they were just signing posters, and whatever else anyone had brought. Their set was great, they opened with And Your Bird Can Sing. They also did Cinnamon Girl, The Kids Are Alright, Baby Blue...
