Everywhere I go now I'm hearing either Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac music. I'm talking about public places where music is piped in. Just today I go into a restaurant and the first thing I hear is Stevie singing Gypsy. I go into the supermarket and its Gold Dust Woman playing (odd to hear that song in a market). I go to the bank and its Stevie again. An elevator...doctor's office... I've gone years without hearing any FM music...now suddenly its everywhere. All this seems to have started in the last month or so. Is there some kind of Stevie Nicks revival sweeping the country I haven't heard about. (No, I don't live in Australia) Anybody else notice this?

I've been getting that "Stevie Nicks revival" feeling, too. I think she is enjoying a bit of a renaissance right now.

Recently, I heard Buckingham Nicks "Long Distance Winner" on XM satellite radio.

What does that say about our favorite band being used as Muzak?

that they've made it -

to me, as cheesy as Muzak and the like are, I think it shows how memorable a band and/or song are

That they sound nice. :) I thought muzak was technically familiar songs played by a band, no words, and made to sound way cheesier than the actual song.

I've been having a similar experience with parmesan cheese. I've seen it mentioned about four times in the last two days.

Hmm.;)

[No, I'm actually serious about this]

No. I'm not talking about muzak. What I keep hearing are the actual FM recordings. Today, it was Stevie singing Gypsy on the 1997 The Dance CD. I'm thinking maybe the Australia tour may have something to do with it. But why would that tour cause a ripple in the US.

I know. I was saying what I thought Muzak was.
I hear Whenever I Call You Friend a lot. Others, too.

I was wondering the same thing. Fleetwood Mac has become the inoffensive background music of choice for pharmacies and dentists' offices. Woohoo?

Was FM ever not inoffensive and used as background music?

Retail stores have to play cable radio in order to avoid getting fined(ASCAP, BMI) and I have noticed they often pick 70's hits channels, so FM get a lot of play.

Yes. The Fleetwood Mac prior to Buckingham/Nicks joining. They were known then as an edgy British blues band. Kinda like John Mayall. Some FM fans at the time we're sort of upset with the new direction after BN came aboard.

an edgy British blues band on the brink of extinction maybe

if some FM fans were upset over the new direction, I'm sure they soon got over it

being inoffensive and used as background music, to me, isn't always a bad thing

Exactly, we have a 60's/70's/80's classic rock station on all day at our store, and there is not a day that goes by without a Fleetwood Mac song. Not that I mind. :)

Yep...before Stevie & Lindsey joined. They were "underground rock" (or "blues", if you go back further).

I think I'd prefer the latter two.

I think I'd prefer the latter two. While are on the subject, Oh Well was used for a Lays chips commercial here in the Netherlands not so long ago. Was pretty popular too. ;)

I'm never talking about before S&L joined, just for your future reference. :)

I thought it was just me! Yesterday at the Mall I hear Say you Will, then on the radio I hear Don't stop, and then while I was getting my hair cut the played Lanslide '97 version. Stevie is definately in the air :)

"Albatross" is being used a lot for supermarket ads here in the UK at the moment.

For those on here who were unaware, "Albatross" was a nice piece of music by the popular beat combo, Fleetwood Mac :)

I heard Lindsey's Soul Drifter this past Saturday. I was sitting down at a local restaurant waiting for my take-out order and they played LB in between The Mamas and The Papas "Monday Monday" and The Eagles' "Hole In The World"

Last week when I was listening to George Noory they played Rhiannon, LB's Trouble and Bob Welch's Ebony Eyes all in the same night for bumper music.

Also Sean Hannity plays a kind of different version of Stand Back for bumper music. I don't know if it is a remix or not.

I actually don't mind hearing Fleetwood Mac on the radio every day. I find that it helps your fandom greatly when you hear a song when you're reading or using the computer. Even when you own the albums, a little spontaneous Mac every now and then never hurt anyone.

Since Fleetwood Mac dominated the 1970's I would expect oldies radio stations playing 70's and 80's to play their music. What I'm finding odd is it's being played in stores as background music. For the most part, IMO, the patrons of these places are not FM age...much younger.

Humorous side note: At a Super Bowl party, two young women, early 20's, came in distributing Miller beer material...coupons, bottle openers etc. Both were wearing knee high, black, platform boots. I asked one where she got the Stevie Nicks boots. I kind of got a blank look but she said Nordstroms. I said "do you know who Stevie Nicks is?" She said "no...who is she?" Anybody experience this?

ITA! I went shopping recently at our local outlets & outside a Fleetwood Mac song was playing & when I went inside one of the stores, Lindsey's Don't Look Down was playing. I was pretty surprised. I'm always hearing the Mac or Stevie in our local grocery store. I'll stop in the middle of the aisle, grab my husband & real excited say, "That's Fleetwood Mac!" He's usually not amused. Sometimes I just may give him a heart attack!
