rumor, I wouldnt worry about it because if Stevie was indeed ill she would be seeking treatment instead of preparing for her Australian tour.

Someone on only their 8th post appears with a "cancer ' rumor and phrases it in such a tacky way.Sorry but my very functional Trollometer is way over in the red.

You, BombaySapphire, rarely even post about Stevie Nicks. You've posted about Celine Dion and Tom Delay, but, um, not Stevie... I had an important question, and if your .58 posts per day makes you think that you're better than me, then that is sad. Some of us have busy lives.. I really resent how rude you are.

Rule of thumb: "Friends" and anonymous "legitimate sources" rarely make for good news. If it were announced that Stevie had breast cancer, it would be all over her official website, as well as all of the major news websites (see: Kylie Minogue). And there would surely be a shitload of threads about it here. It's very easy and always in your own best interests to do just a modicum of research before asking a question like this in a fan forum, lest you be accused of spreading vicious rumours, because yes, fans can be bitches sometimes when it comes to these kinds of things.
It's not your fault, you got slightly duped, but go back and read your initial post and I think you'll see why some people got a little up in arms over it. What kind of response would you expect if someone came here and posted, "Hi all, I just heard from a rather voluptuous acquaintance of mine that Stevie robbed a bank in Utah this morning, is this true?"

Ha, wouldn't it be great if it turns out she actually did have cancer? Maybe she isn't completely ready to release the news yet, or maybe she doesn't even have it yet but will soon, and this was all just a coincidence. Either way, Ms. Senseformiles would either be owed many apologies or would be worshiped for the prophetic powers that you all worship from Ms. Nicks. Irony at its best.

Maybe people got her mixed up with Melissa Etheridge or someone else. People can't get artists and their songs that they perform correct so I am sure that they might miss-match illnesses.

Welcome to The Ledge. As was mentioned, there could be some confusion with the artist involved. Melissa Etheridge is one woman with a similar husky voice that has been in the news. Another woman, who I think might be from Australia (coincidental to Stevie's tour going there), actually, is Kylie Minogue. My bet is somehow the info about the Australia tour got mixed in.
If some folks here seem a little bit defensive, it was only a short time ago that someone heard via email that Stevie had a stroke:
http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=24766&highlight=stroke
I think you'll find most people here are friendly. As far as we all know, Stevie is doing quite well. She has mentioned long in an interview that she has a slight mitral valve prolapse in her heart, some asthma, vocal cord strain, a run with Epstein's Barr, etc. but hasn't had any major health issues. She continues to be involved in the Arizona Heart Institute in terms of fund raising and the City Of Hope, involved with cancer and research among other charities that are meaningful to her.

I read somewhere that Stevie had a form of breast cancer when she
had her breast implants removed in the 70's, as of now i am not sure
whether it has ever come back.
I hope she has great health in the future, it would be terrible for her to
die before her time, she is a great singer/songwriter.

There's SO many Rumours that go around about Stevie and her health that it's just absolutely silly. A VERY short time ago everyone was freaked out because there was a rumor that Stevie had had a stroke. And that turned out to be totally bogus. And I feel pretty sure that the same is true here. She's a fighter and she loves her life - she's had to fight for it to get to the place she's at now ("spiritually," I mean), and so I kinda think she'd be in the hospital or something instead of touring right now, no?
What I don't understand is why there's so many people who make this crap up - Why would it EVER even occur to them to DO such a thing?
Anyway, my suggestion, personally, is don't believe anything until it's posted on Nicksfix.

She did not have them removed in the 1970s that is when they were put in .The implants were taken out in the early 1990s and I don't believe anything was said then about cancer. She did say that she believed that the leakage from the silicone implants may have contributed to her chronic fatigue.the breast cancer rumor is new and apparently the source is a'friend of a very .very handsome friend 'Suspicious indeed if I do say so myself.

I'm confused about these implants. I have read about it happening around 1980, but that actual date is not important. I never understood why Stevie thought she needed them in the first place. From looking at the old FM photos, it doesn't appear she really "neeed" them at all. Was she going after the Dolly Parton look!

I'm fairly certain that the year she got them was 1976.Her reason unsurprisingly was 'because everyone else was doing it then"

I don't know exactly when she had the implants put in, but it was in the 70's that she did. She had them removed in the early 90's because of leakage... Never heard anything about a breast cancer scare around the time of them removed... just the leakage and the fatigue that could have been caused by that.

Stevie NEVER had breast cancer. She had something called Epstein Barr Syndrome. Here is Stevie's own account of her implants and their removal:
When she got them, in 1976, to enhance her 5ft 1in figure, there was of course no hint that silicone could be toxic. She is convinced they precipitated her long bout with Epstein-Barr Syndrome (aka chronic fatigue syndrome), which set in in 1987 and culminated in major surgery two years ago to remove the implants. "The operation to take them out is horrible," Nicks says. Leaning forward, she speaks passionately, tracing a finger around her chest. "They were totally broken inside me. All that silicone was all through me, poisoning me. They have to cut all around here and take the nipple off and then reconstruct you. And the scars ... When they were put in they were clear little silicone bags. When they take them out, they're black and green and yellow. I've got them in a freezer in Phoenix to remind me."

Thanks for finding this info. I still don't understand why she had them done in the first place. She was plenty large enough naturally, especially for someone 5-1. The implants were totally unnecessary IMO.

I think the implants themselves have cancer. They've probably been sitting next to chicken for years. Chicken breast. The bacteria has transmuted and given the implants, ahem, breast cancer.
That was soooooo lame.

Stevie has clarified the implants are in her doctor's pathology freezer. (Not next to the frozen peas at home).

I can remember during the Enchanted tour, at her Pittsburgh show, I was talking to a former teacher who was working at the venue over the summer. She told us that they had heard that Stevie just found out that she had breast cancer and wasn't sure if they would be finishing the tour.
That was in 1998.
Never happened.

I just did a mammogram on a patient today like this. She was 25, had maybe a B-C cup, but needed a mammo before her implant surgery next week. It happens all the time. I think a lot of these types of people have body dysmorphia, or something along those lines.
When I have a patient that ASKS me about implants, I always discourage them, but I unfortunately can't make comments about it if they don't ask me.

They called her a "troll". It did seem like she was trolling posting a rumor. In retaliation she called them "bitches", etc. Her behavior matched that of a troll, stirring the pot, calling people names, attacking people. In hindsight it doesn't seem like that was the intent. However, with the information I had at the time, I concluded that senseformiles was trolling. Other longtime members came to the same conclusion via their experience with trolls.
My only intent was to stop the unnecessary pot stirring that was going on. I started with the person who began it, IMO. That's it. We have a strict no trolling stance here because in the past we've let things go for too long which causes a lot of unnecessary distress to our members!
So I'm sorry senseformiles if you felt singled out. That wasn't my intention.

OK...On second thought, I was wrong about this. It looks like she already had the implants before I started to see photos of her in 1976. So when I wrote she didn't need them...she already had them. Ithough they were put in around 1980. The real problem is she had them in too long. They should have been changed out every 5-8 years or so as the technology improved. As seems everything with Stevie...she is lucky it didn't kill her.
