I think the studio version is very good also. It's always nice to hear Lindsey and Stevie singing together. It's readily available on the soundtrack to "Twister". I like the demo, studio, and live versions all really well, but in different ways.

The full version of the song is good, and the added bridge is nice, but a lot of the song just kind of sits there. It doesn't have the movement of the demo, and the drums never really push it along, which is pretty inexplicable, considering it's Mick playing on the full version and just a really basic pre-recorded drum loop playing on the demo. The Buckingham/Nicks harmonies aren't that tight either.

This just sounds like another CRAPY unfished SHIIT song of hers(cough cough Street Angel album cough cough). Who produced this crap? Hey at least on the Enchanted tour we got treated to the strobe lights and wind effects when the song came on lol!

You know to me this song is like Sweet Girl Part 1. To me Stevie wrote both songs, composed and recorded while she was constipated on some toilet for hours with a bad hangover and smokers cough.

I've always liked the Lindsey version better. When I heard the anemic demo from Enchanted I couldn't believe Stevie ever wanted us to hear it. The guitar adds so much more on the soundtrack version. I think Lindsey wanted to mimmick the whirlwind of a tornado tearing through a town with it. At least that's what I think of when I hear it. Plus the "crazy men, crazy women...crying out for love" line really resonates better with both of them singing it.

And it has the "I know you know watching you go is like dying...it's like dying" line. I love the way they sing that together. I usually rewind that part 2 or 3 times before letting the song finish. :p

Then I saw it on my first bootleg the Woodstock 98 show and LOVED it!

Personally, I find "Twisted" to be one of Stevie's best songs ever. With the "lull" period she had during the early 90's, on "Twisted" she sounds like she is on her way back. Heartfelt lyrics and passionate vocals, ah, I remember thinking, "Stevie is back." Truly one of her better songs.

I agree. I love the demo, but feel the Lindsey version is just so-so. Too produced.I like both. It's definitely one of my favourite songs. The only thing that I don't really like about the Buckingham/Nicks version are the harmonies. Usually their voices together sound perfect, but there are a few instances during the song where I feel they could have blended better. But hey, as someone else already said, the 'watching you go is like dying' part makes up more than enough for that.

Could you explain what you mean specifically?

Sure... I find the finished version of the song a little too glossy and heavy-handed musically. What I love about the demo is its lightness -- just acoustic guitars, voice and a drum track. I love Stevie's self-harmonizing, and I think the guitar overdub that Jesse Valenzuela does on the choruses is simply gorgeous.
It certainly doesn't sound like a finished track, but for me that's part of its charm. Also, I think Jyqm is on to something when he says the demo "moves" better. The finished version kind of lands with a thud...
All just IMO of course. :)

Actually, it's one of my favorites. Really, after RAL and "Seven Wonders," I found it difficult to really get into new Stevie music in general. This song, as well as "Sweet Girl," showed signs of the Stevie I always loved. The songs were both very basic, but both have that underlying, understated intesity that make the songs wonderful. It's the same type of quality that made "Dreams" such a great song.

But, this song has a special meaning for me. A few months before the song was released, it was annoucned that Fleetwood Mac (Time version) had broken up. So part of me was upset at that there would be no more Fleetwood Mac. Then seemingly out of nowhere comes this gem, which features the three people who most needed a meeting of the minds in order for a reunion of the "Rumours" band to get back together. Within a few weeks, Stevie, Mick, John, and Chris all appeared together at the Kentucky Derby. Sure, it would be over a year until "The Dance," but I think with "Twisted" and the Kentucky Derby, everybody knew the Mac was coming back. So, for me, I always associate "Twisted" with Fleetwood Mac NOT being over.

Not sure if this is obvious aleady, but try looking at the song from the
point of view of it being not just about tornados, but about how Stevie
views guys' perspectives and attitudes towards the world.
(Guys like Lindsey, for example...)
From that angle - the song takes on a much bigger meaning,
and maybe even ranks up there with some of Stevie's best, imo
(OH-kay, it's not Shakespeare, I admit! )

I love it too and definitely agree, but remember that this one was
produced for a specific movie, to their more-or-less specific
requirements. Personally I feel she nailed it and gave them exactly
what they were looking for, but i.m.o. this isn't exactly Stevie
"writing from her heart" here, it's more like being told what they were
looking for and giving it to them, as per the "script" of the movie.
But I DO feel that there's more to it than initially meets the eye.

I read that when she was asked to write the song, she was given the script and one of her assistants read parts of it to her or gave her a rundown of it. Taking that to mind, I think she delivers a pretty good song that ties directly to the movie and one that many people can relate to - and she does it in the classic Stevie Nicks style. It's a meladrama and metaphorically the story of a man and a woman in a stormy relationship that continually wreaks havoc on their lives but that they refuse to end. Delicious.

I agree. There was something about the tempo though, I felt that for the theme it slogged along. I would have liked to hear a more straight ahead rock treatment of this song and not the AC it turned out as. I also think radio should have played this more, it has some hooks but they just didn't give it the time of day.

Newp. The song is my favorite and has deep meaning. Yea, she made her own life story fit into the Soundtrack but she referred to herself as a storm many years prior to writing Twisted. This song is all about Stevie and nothing about an actual tornado... Of course Stevie is just as happy having everyone think she crafted it around the script.

I have to say - I totally agree. This song is a shippers'paradise. Interestingly, I think she did craft it around the script in the onset. But, I think she culled from LB for it - how could she not. There is a reason after she went away for a little while to remember how to feel, she called him to help her with it - olive branch? I also think it is telling she sings only some of the lyrics in her solo set - really the easy ones. They are nothing but complicated.

Well, maybe it's possible to "get" some Stevie songs, and not others.
Personally I feel I understand "Sable on Blonde" REALLY well (sorta),
can relate to it, feel that I know EXACTLY what she's saying, etc.
"Twisted" I think, is just a cool, nice song that she wrote as a movie
soundtrack, to make some extra buckage and for the fun and publicity,
and is "kinda sorta about Lindsey" but not that emotional for her.
So maybe I just don't get it and never will.

Of course. Thanks for setting the record straight, O great Stevie confidante.

Somehow I doubt Stevie just happened to have written a song called "Twisted" just around the time she happened to be asked to contribute to a soundtrack for the movie Twister. The most likely scenario seems to be that she was approached by the movie people, told what the movie was about, and asked for a song, and she said, "Oh, that sounds like a great story, their relationship sounds like a lot of my relationships, I'll write a new song all about it."
