Hi everybody, I am looking for a little help. I want to make a cd for my grandmother (she had a massive stroke three weeks ago ) Her condition is very tentative. I am hoping that hearing inspirational music may help her in some way. If anybody has any suggestions ( Mac or other ) they would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother. As far as inspirational songs, that's a tough one. I wonder if you're looking for inspiration from lyrics or just melody/music?

Stevie's Inspiration might be a good place to start.

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I'd suggest Patty Griffin's "When It Don't Come Easy," Sarah McLachlan's "Angel," and maybe "Touched by an Angel" from Stevie.

Thanks for the replies. I am mainly going with songs that have encouraging lyrics. My Grandma was the type of person that was always taking care of everyone else. She is 78 , but she was very active and could always run circles around everyone :) She went from going 80 mph to 0 :( so I am just looking for anyhting that will help ..... thanks again

Henry, I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother. I wish her a total recovery and the best of health in the future.

Some inspirational songs off the top of my head... "Don't Stop," "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You," Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush's "Don't Give Up" and Leann Womack's "I Hope You Dance."

Not sure that they're all entirely appropriate to the situation, but I thought I'd suggest them anyway.

Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush's "Don't Give Up"

I was just about to suggest this. What about "Doing The Best That I Can (Escape From Berlin)" ?

Maybe you should ask around and find out what kind of music your grandmother really loves. If I was in her situation and couldn't move, I would hate it if someone put on a CD of music I didn't like or wasn't familiar with and forced me to listen to it.

Gypsy somehow comes to mind. Definitely Don't Stop.
Uhmm, Say You Will. Gold (duet with John Stewart).
DEFINITELY "Whenever I Call You Friend" with Kenny Loggins,
which by the way was a HUGE hit back in the 70s - she'd probably
recognize that one. Rhiannon - I've heard a LOT of people mention
that Rhiannon is a very "healing" song. Beauty and the Beast.

ANY kind of positive stimulation can be a good thing for a stroke victim.

I'd also suggest classical music - Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and Tchai-
kovsky's (sp?) "1812 Overture" come to mind.

I'd suggest asking her doctor what he/she thinks. Maybe he or she
would even have some suggestions.

There's also a lot of quieter, more beautiful songs by Stevie - I haven't really touched on those.
But just real briefly, for that type of song I'd suggest Bella Donna, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You,
and Love Is.

If you need to know what albums certain songs are on, I can post those too.

Obviously if she doesn't seem too happy about this, then wait for a better
time, etc.

Gold (duet with John Stewart).

Gold lyrics:

"My buddy Jim Bash
He is working pumping gas
And he makes two fifty for an hour"

Just curious, what is inspirational about that?

Henry - sorry to hear about your grandmother. I will say a prayer for her.

Illume

It's not inspirational, I admit -
just upbeat and fun!
(Which can be good and positive and healing, also.)

I keep trying to offer my own suggestions but, all I can think of is "what if she hates it?". This just seems to be an inappropriate time to recruit a fan, despite how much you think it might help. Putting something in front of this woman that you KNOW would uplift her spirits is way nicer and more thoughtful than introducing her to magic of Stevie.

I'm 41 and I'd rather slip into a coma than be forced to listen to the crap my younger family members enjoy.

I see what your saying, but I have a pretty good idea of what my grams likes ( she kinda raised me and is like a mother to me... were very close ) She is the sweetest person ( everything a grandma should be  ) and probably would'nt complain even if she hated the music. The doctor says that the stroke might affect her personality and she could be mean or snap at people ( which I have never seen her do ) So far she has'nt done anything like that, although I can tell she is very frustated.
I had put Landslide on the cd, but I also have things like Louis Armstrong " What a Wonderful World and Allison Krauss's "Down to the River to Pray" which she has heard and she likes. So it does'nt have to be Stevie just something encouraging but not in an annoying way:)
Thanks for all the ideas
