I know I'm the only one around here who cares, but Imma post this anyways.

He has made a jazz album independently, got new management and sounds amazing (I already knew that heh). Night and Day is my fave from the clips on the site. This is the type of music he really wants to do and his voice was made for it.

Please, no horrible, negative comments. Thank you. :)

I bet his jazz is totally mainstream. What does he play?

Justin was the runner up on the first American Idol. Did I know him from what? LOL I've met him a couple of times, but that's not what you meant.

He plays piano and some guitar, but on this album, he had musicians play. Here is the tracklisting:

1. Night & Day
2. My Funny Valentine
3. Just Squeeze Me
4. I'll Take Romance
5. I Didn't Know What Time It Was
6. I Love You
7. Young & Foolish
8. All Of You
9. Stranger Things Have Happened To Me
10. Sing

Mainstream? I guess. I can totally hear Night and Day on the radio. I emailed my local smooth jazz station to let them know about it. Hopefully, this album will get more airplay than his pop album, which was pretty much nil.

I never really liked Justin, tho I do appreciate that he is a talented person. I will have to take a listen to this album because I'm interested to see how he performs with jazz tunes.

I listened to three of the clips on the website, and I have to say, that is a really pleasant surprise. I had two assumptions going in:

1) Justin would indulge in the overwrought over-singing that plagues a lot of the folks on American Idol, and plagues quite a few jazz singers as well.

2) Since you mentioned "smooth jazz" in another post, that this would be some awful synth-y David Sanborn-type crap.

But the music sounds very classy; it seems like a good tight quartet (and I love me some walking bass lines). And Justin's voice is for the most part beautifully restrained; he lets the melodies do the talking rather than trying to impress anybody with high-falutin' vocal tricks.

I doubt I'll run out and buy this, but I'm glad to see someone extricate himself from the soulless, corporate American Idol grip and actually record the music that he loves. I hope he keeps it up.

you captured what I was trying to say.

Thanks for the responses! I'm so over all the negativity, it's emotionally draining.

I mentioned smooth jazz because that's the only radio station around here that would probably play something from this album.

Justin's never been guilty of oversinging, unlike some OTHER AIers. He's good at knowing when to let it out and when to pull on the reigns. If you heard the CD from his high school days, Midnight Voices, your jaw would be on the floor.

Justin was the runner up on the first American Idol. For some reason, I was confusing him with the Backstreet Boys, who I think is named Justin.

David, you're so perfect the way you are. I would never dare to disabuse you of your blissful ignorance of such topics.

That's N'Sync you are thinking of. ;) Justin Timberlake.

While I don't have much of an opinion either way on Justin or AI. except to agree with Stevie Nicks that the show should have stopped after the first year.It isn't very realistic to post information about an album or performer and then ask people not to offer a critical view of said performer or album.

I don't mean, don't say you don't like it or anything like that. I just meant, I've heard so many horrific, racist, disgusting comments over the past 3 years in regards to Justin, and I'm sick of that. If you don't like the album, his voice, the songs, etc., that's cool. It seems that at the mere mention of his name, people just go into attack mode.

Dat's all.

Racist ! that is horrible.I can't understand why people say such things. Biracial people are some of the best looking people there are .Justin included.

I don't understand people....period. LOL They say the most hateful things. :distress: On the old American Idol boards, there were racist things said about Justin for being biracial and about Tamyra too.

I think he is beautiful. He has a beautiful soul too. :) He personally thanked one of the fans from the boards on his website. I can't wait to see what the CD liner notes say.

Is it me, or is Justin Guarini the best thing since... Philip Michael Thomas?? :xoxo: :D

Seriously, even though it's not my bag, his CD does not sound half as bad as I would have assumed. Without a doubt, his version of "My Funny Valentine" is far superior to that off-key caterwauling by Constantine Maroulis.

I loved his fro. I don't miss it these days because he's older and has changed a bit, but that's the first thing I noticed about Justin when he was on AI. It caught my attention because he didn't look like all the other guys on the show and he was MILES above them talent-wise.
