View Full Version : New Stevie Nicks CD!!

According to a new article from the Queensland Newspaper posted on the Nicksfix:

"So I should remember to tell you that there's a Best Of retrospective coming out to tie-in with the tour. But there won't be any new tracks. When I came off the road six weeks ago, I just didn't have the time to do some new recording. And anyway, I didn't have any new material until I started writing this song about New Orleans."

She says she hasn't written a new song in 18 months. Too bad there will be no new tunes on the CD.

I don't see any point in Greatest Hits - unless it's solely for those who never buy a Stevie CD otherwise.... such a waste of money for those who are already fans, and have everything of hers..... At the very least, make a compilation of different versions of well known songs, or put on live versions, something worth buying!!

"Best Of" doesn't necessarily mean "Greatest Hits". Fleetwood's Best Of included songs like "World Turning", "Storms", and "What Makes You Think You're The one". IT was a much better and complete collection than their Greatest Hits package, but more concise than their boxed set. I think a Best Of from Stevie isn't necessarily something to turn your nose up at.

Maybe its just an Austrailian release  why would she release it here but promote it in Austrailia. Now the DVD on the other hand sound GREAT>

Timespace
Enchanted
The devine (or something like that)

ANOTHER best of.... sigh....

Really? Even when it has nothing new on it and is essentially just a repackage of what we already have on her solo albums, Timespace, and the Enchanted boxed set? My nose is quite upturned at this moment, I must admit.

I said not necessarily. I can understand where the diehard fans would be somewhat bummed by not having anything new released on the Best Of album. But there are people out there, believe it or not, who don't own Timespace or Enchanted and may want to get a record like this from Stevie. I'll call it a Greatest Hits embellishment. They may be interested in her as an artist and want a little more than just the everyday hits they've heard on the radio over the years, but not really wanting an anthology type of record. As for me, I'll buy the Best Of collection if it just has a few more nipple shots of her included.

I'm totally pissed about no new material. Stevie, if you are reading this...

I want a new album and I want it yesterday!!!!!!

This is insane. I can't listen to Edge of Seventeen for the rest of my life. I just want some new material to listen to. It is not a big request. She just needs to record the demos that we have already heard. She has enough material where she could release 3 CDs and not even have to write one new song at this point. She has dozens of demos lying around. It makes me sad that she has basically given up recording it sounds like.

I agree with you on everything except your last sentence. I would really love to see her make some new stuff...an acoustic album...a jazz album...anything.

But, who am I kidding, I'm totally getting the "best of" whatever it is...

Hmmm to be honest i think she has lost enthusiasm. he drive for "new" must be running out.

Things no longer...
New clothes....
New music...
New arrangements.... she used to always change they way she sung songs, lyrics etc

She seems as though over the last few years that age has caught up a little. At the concerts for the majority of the SYW tour she had to push it to show a little involvement and passion...

She's getting older too... and her best friends are too which wouldn't help our plight

I read in Creem that it's coming out in February, along with John Lennon's new album. Lead single is tipped to be "Song About Dreams #47," but it's only tentative.

See a new Stevie release with the same-ol'-same-ol' solo tunes...See Stevie jump the shark :nod:Eh, even the well-respected king of not gouging fans, Tom Petty, has two greatest hits albums and a boxed set.

It's standard practice in the music industry to release a fresh "best of" CD from time to time, to help re-energize an artist's catalog, even if the track listings on the sets don't vary by much.

Just look at Blondie. Christ. Granted, they had no say over those "best of" releases, but there must have been 30 of them released in the past 15 years.

Just look at Blondie. Christ. Granted, they had no say over those "best of" releases, but there must have been 30 of them released in the past 15 years. It's definitely a pity in those cases, because while the record company makes money, it puts an undeserved chink in the artist's respectability.

I think two "hits" compilations and one boxed-set over the course of a 25 year career isn't too bad... though I'm certainly not saying that I wouldn't much rather have a brand new album instead.

I read online a few chapters of a famous musician's unreleased biography which had a lot of detailed information about the contract with Warner Bros. his then current (Now former) band had...

Seems Warners love to have their major artists' release 2 greatest hits compilation per contract...One while the artists are still a viable act and another once their career is winding down & the label wants to milk a few more $$$$ from their past glories or at the time when they have completed their contractual agreement and will soon be heading elsewhere.

I would rather have a new studio album and/or a release of previously unreleased rarities instead of a re-hash of hits and/or a live album.

Why? Why! Why do you people want her to throw out one or two live cuts that would force you to buy a CD that's 80% stuff you already have?

I think it's incredibly respectful of her fans not to put any new material on this release. Put your wallets away, we can save our money this time around, instead of paying full price for "Sometime's It's A Bitch." This time, thankfully, it isn't.

It is probably the label who is pushing this GH/retrospective package. The last time it was scheduled to be released...Stevie never talked about it. The way she just tossed it out in this interview doesn't make me want to buy it either, but I will. Her heart does not seem into it, that is why I think the label is behind the whole idea.

As for no more recording...I pretty much thought that eight months ago and posted about it. Everyone disagreed, vehemently. She is not going to record forever and maybe she wants to move on into other things in life? I do not think she is selling out....perhaps her priorites are just changing.

When you get to be a rock star for so many years, there will inevitably be lot's of Best of's and Greatest Hits.

Bowie has several, Heart has several, Led Zeppelin keeps em coming, Doors, etc.

I'm not a big fan of TimeSpace so I'm looking forward to a better collection which will be up to date as well.

Now what really needs to happen, and just in time for Christmas is the damn Buckingham Nicks CD.

Do you use iTunes to import music to your computer? Just go to Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced--> Importing and under "Import Using" change the setting to "WAV Encoder."

Dude, I have moved on. Just like I noticed your attempted spin in that case, even though I didn't share the people's opinion, I noticed your attempted spin in this case. It's not a big deal - I just notice when people are using spin, or a strange type of twisty logic to prove their point. Honestly, you can spin all you want, but if I feel like noticing it, I will.
And again, I called you on your spin many, many times before the other night, so not only does your logic not hold up, but I"m actually saying to you in words that it's not about the other night. It's not a big deal - I just notice when people are using spin, or a strange type of twisty logic to prove their point. I would do it with anyone, you just happen to use the tactic more than other people. And I wouldn't call it "inconsistent" as if it was an accident.
Honestly, you can spin all you want, but if I feel like noticing it, I will.
And again, I called you on your spin many, many times before the other night, so not only does your logic not hold up, but I"m actually saying to you in words that it's not about the other night. Okay? Hopefully you will believe that.
:wavey:

Whatever

See, this is the problem - I use words that mean things for a reason, which is that I mean what I say - but you don't believe them.
It's fine if you want to think that, because I just realized conclusively that no matter what I say, you won't believe I am telling the truth. No matter that my language is plain and direct. It's pointless.
If being right is that important to you to where you'll not believe me when I say something clearly, then fine. Be right.
I'll still call you on your slippery logic, though, and if each time, you insist that it was "about the other day" so be it.
Although I would ask you what you thought it was about every other time I did it before the other day.
But I won't ask you, because I see that questioning you, or pointing out logical flaws in your reasoning makes you mad and stubborn. At least when I do it. And it makes you call my comments asinine. Again.
So, uh...sorry, I just like to spot logical flaws in arguments on occasion. Have a great day.

For instance, the thousand page political arguments sometimes bore me, and sometimes get quite heated. But people still like to discuss things, it is fun for them. When you are making a point, words mean things. Or, when you are in a debate, words mean things. Ie, people respond to what other people say; the meaning of the words the other person typed. And people use their judgement to decide what they think about those words. That's with every post. You read a post, you make some kind of judgement. :wavey:

Yes, you are and you are doing a good job - Amber is just being typically self-righteous once again and it looks rather pathetic if you ask me.

Interestingly, I spun nothing in this thread. I thought Diss. said he never bought music and instead downloaded everything. He corrected me and I stood and stand corrected. The Amberpolice apparently thinks that should have ended all conversation on the subject. That is all fine and dandy for her, but I wanted then to ask Diss the different but related question of whether he never downloaded anything as opposed to everything, which I thought he implied in his prior statement. How that is spin is beyond me.

I suppose it is possible that one reason she's not more interested in working on an album at this point is because she's worried it wouldn't sell as well as she'd like. She does seem rather overly concerned with that type of thing. But I'm not sure sales of a compilation of previously released material will really give her a good perception of what sales of a new album might be like. I would guess that there are a lot of people like me who have no intention of buying a CD of music they already have but are anxious for a new album, and probably also quite a few people who might be interested in a greatest hits package but wouldn't be likely to buy a new studio album.

If she gave a shit about the kind of stuff being released, she do something along the lines of the set Patti Smith released a couple years back. Hits and studio tracks, and a bunch of demos, unreleased live recordings, and outtakes.

Man, what I wouldn't give for that. Now THAT would be something to look foward to, not another tired comp .

I think she thinks she may re record many of those songs one day. I think that is unlikely, but SYW was unexpected in that regard and she found a cool voice to do them in. Maybe she also thinks she can sell the songs to others to do. That is not a bad idea, but I hardly think a demo of a song or even her finished product would stop that from happening as she is not about to release those as singles, though I suppose she could.

And take away box set sales from 'Enchanted?' The only reason to get it is Disc 3 and even that isn't all that great.

I agree though, the nice 2-CD Retrospective collections have been refreshing recently from artists. Stevie should take this route for her new CD.

If you like Patti Smith, I highly recommend it. The first disc is essentially all her greatest hits and some studio tracks, while the second disc is all rare material. Stevie certainly has the catalogue to be able to do something like that, but then again, it would require some effort on her part. She thinks digging out old photos for a middling boxed set is effort, so...

I don't think there could be a valid comparison either, but it could help to confirm her there's still people out there buying her albums, IMO.

Not really related, but Patti Smith just appeared in our most famous tv show singing Because the night. and she has just applauded to Pier Paolo Pasolini's words. Great lady.

I don't know, I really enjoy disc 3 of Enchanted, being able to get all of those soundtrack songs and other goodies in one place is a nice treat, even if the rest of the box set belies that effort. That disc shows that Stevie does know how to give her fans what they really want when she puts her mind to it. If only she would have extended that kind of care to the rest of the box set, or to her concerts...

I thought the Rumors and Tusk stuff was a pretty good start. Though they needed more on those. I will never understand why they do not release a double DVD of their videos and the Tusk and other tours' footage never seen before. It would cost relatively little to do that and it seemingly would sell at least well enough. Or, put it on that pathetic website and sell it by streaming. I'd pay the membership to see that

I love her lyrics to that song, it gives it a very different feel from Springsteen's versions, but it's just as powerful.

Thing is, for me, I had most of those tracks on Disc 3 already. All the soundtracks, duets, etc. Except for maybe 3 or 4 tracks. It is good, but I think I wanted more archive/rare stuff and even a bit more of live tracks.

there's so much material that most have yet to see that it boggles ones mind...

But, Of course, this is Fleetwood Mac we're talking about...The day this band finally decides to release this material (Or should that be "any") is the same day I become the next Pope.

Fill one of your hands with a dream of it happening (Rare footage released on DVD ) and fill the other with a pile of shit and squeeze to see which one gets filled first

Yeah, it's not a terribly great disc if you'd already been a completist collector for years, and a lot more material that had actually been previously unreleased would have been really great (hell, even some alternate mixes instead of so many straight-up album tracks), but it's always nice to have those kinds of miscellaneous tracks all available in one place, and disc 3 does show a lot more effort on Stevie's part than she usually shows. And as much as I like to bitch her out about this kind of thing, I will give her at least a little credit where it's due, if only to encourage more of the same (or better) in the future.

But lord knows she could have tacked a couple of unreleased rarities on the end instead of that "Wait a minute, why does this exist?" solo piano version of "Rhiannon."

All very true and agreed. Which to me makes 'Enchanted' very good, but not great. I think with the box set instead of straight up album cuts (or very slight variations) it would have been nice to have many of those tracks either live or very alternate versions/takes. It would have made it all the more special and unique. Her best idea was making sure 'Long Distance Winner' found its way there.
