Taking a view

TRAVELLING halfway across the world to a race meeting is all very well, but Fleetwood Mac diva Stevie Nicks was confronted to discover that the Andrew McManus Presents marquee, while well-positioned, didn't afford a view of the track. Stevie, though, was determined to see the race, and arrangements were made for her to be whisked off to the VRC Committee Room to watch the other Diva.

I'd think you'd get a view from this tent! My goodness for the amount of money they pay to get a marquee you'd want a view of the actual race!! wouldn't you?? isn't that what people are there for??

If i was stevie i'd be doing it too!

Hate to say it but, NO! These people are there to do Business,
and to see and be seen.
And to get paid 200 large for sitting in a chair all day,
if somebody's stupid enough to pay them that. . . .

MY I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during THAT conversation!!!

"Miss Nicks: I thought I would be able to see the RACE!

Mr. McManus: Well - I don't know what to TELL you - SORRY!

Miss Nicks: Well, I want to go to the VRC Room. I came all this way,
I might as well see the race.

Mr. McManus: Well, uhm, er, errm, uhh, you're under CONTRACT,
Miss Nicks, it's REQUIRED that you - uhh - uuh - uhhhm, that you
stay ONLY in THIS Marquee!

[It is not recorded that Miss Nicks issued a reply... ]"

I've never seen Stevie as what I consider a "DIVA" in the sense that I just cant see her being as demanding or just plain mean as people like Cher, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross.

I blame her fans, who were essentially the ones who started talking about her in diva terms.

As soon as a veteran female artist hits the big 5-0, they're labeled a "diva." As soon as a veteran female artist stops selling albums, they're labeled a "legend."

So true - though the term "diva" is applied much earlier than that these days a la the VH-1 Diva fillies. That stable has some barely 20 years old

The attempt to "take back" the word diva and make it mean something positive has been an abject failure. I will never see it as meaning anything other than a demanding, deluded self important bitch.
And it is quite ironic that many of the women who gladly take this tag have aspired to be just that. Such is the state of popular music and culture.
