I was sooo excited to see that stevie was interviewed for The New Zealand Current Events Show 'Close Up'
She Talked Abotu The Typical Fleetwood Mac Stuff, like her relationship with Lindsey, but she also said some things about Christine leaving the band, But the big news is she finally talked about what happened on The Tour in New Zealand that everyone was talkign about a while ago about the fight she had onstage with Lindsey!!
And Yes, She will be touring here in March with John Farnham!!!! (Im Singing I Cant Wait right now!! - This will be my first time seeing her live!!)
I recorded the interview, and when i have a moment, i will type up what was said, as i know alot of you will want to know what actually happened on the NZ tour that made them storm off stage

Ok Heres It Is:
Stevie Nicks:
I have been to the Kentucky Durby 3 times, and you really get a touch of what it would really be like to own one of those horses, its so exciting, the culture, and the people there are so excited about it - its like a subculture, you know, your in the world of horse racing and nothing else exisits.
**play a clip of the little lies video**
Stevie Nicks:
I just finished 135 Fleetwood Mac Shows. We Do get along, but we all still totally fight. The dynamic hasnt really changed, you know, but Lindsey and I adore each other - but we just have that love/hate thing, you know, where I wanna do this song, and i dont, so, it keeps it very real and very passionate to this day, so theres nothing boring or overdone about Fleetwood Mac, you know?
**Plays Save Me Video**
Stevie Nicks:
Of course we miss Christine terribly, and wish that she would change her mind, but she wont, so, she does just not want to do this any more, and thats what happens to some people, they just don't want to travel any more, and thats just her deal. I think she will go on recording forever, but she doesnt want to back it up, and you have to.
Continues:
If you had to do it over, you would want to do less of everything, you know, in our 50's, looking back on it, we all wish that we had not been, you know on drugs some of the time, and the coke, you know, had been an overriding factor for all of us. We all knew it and we all hated it, It was destoying us. So there was a pretty conciensous (I cant spell :D ) effort at a point on the road, where we all knew we had to stop.
**Plays Clip of Fleetwood Mac Arriving In New Zealand & getting a traditional Maori welcome (Tusk Tour I Think??)**
Stevie Nicks:
We we all think back to our trip to New Zealand, you know, its an amazing story, it was the fight of all fights, and i think there was thirty thousand people there, that had come form buses all around New Zealand to see us. We were on the last song, of the set, and Lindsey threw his Les Paul guitar at me. I ducked so it didnt hit me, but i was so mad that he had endangered my life. He then stormed off the stage - and we all stormed off the stage after him. The bodyguards and everyone had to physically seperate all of us, and we didn't do an encore that night, and that is the first and only time we have not done an encore. He was mad at me probably because he... it was okay for me to be the performer that i was when we were a couple, but when we broke up, he hated that fact that i was such a lead singer. And Im sure when we left New Zealand, we were not even on the same plane.
(My Mother & Aunty went to this concert and she remembers them storming off stage, but she said it was more like 4 or 5 songs into it, not the last song  )
**Plays Gypsy Video**
Stevie Nicks:
Its still the same fire, oh yeah, because Lindsey and i, you know, we have that everlasting love affair, that though, hes married and has 3 children, can you beleive that, he has 3 children - and he is a total dad, you know, he has been taking little girls to ballet lessons - but we still have that dynamic, that just is, that just exists, and will still be existing when we are 90 years old.
**shows clip of Fleetwood Mac On A NZ Beach**
Stevie Continues:
There was hard times, and tears and broken hearts. But in the long run, when you look back on it, you are like "Hey wasn't it great?"
**Ends**
Host of Close Up

i'm going with jason on this one. he was so non-husband/dad for so long it must be odd to see him with kids. and the never ending love thing? i experience this, other people must too? plus, she's always so dramatic i cut any statement she makes in half, intensity-wise.

So, the Les Paul throwing incident was actually the kicking incident, of were there more incidents, or are we just not getting the entire gist? ;)
As for her comments on her relationship with Lindsey: yadda, yadda, yadda. I think she has her lines rehearsed as much as Lindsey has his speeches.

Hey guys, you are all welcome - it did take me a long time  but i thought you guys would be really interested to finally figure out what actually happend on stage during the tusk tour - there are posts where people stated that Lindsey was mocking the way she dressed, Lindsey kicking her, and there was even a post where someone said that Christine slapped Lindsey after that performance, so it was good to finally hear from Stevie what actually happend
I also found it quite amusing how she kept saying "You Know" - and trust me, she said it more times that what I wrote down, i just thought it was pointless typing it out.
Ohh yeah, and it was also funny how Stevie said that the bodyguards and everyone had to hold the band members back from each other - could you imagine that???
vermicious knid
11-01-2005, 06:50 PM
there was even a post where someone said that Christine slapped Lindsey after that performance
It's true; it comes right from Christine's mouth in the 1997 Rolling Stone cover story. (http://www.nicksfix.com/rs103097.htm)"I think he's the only person I ever, ever slapped," says Christine McVie. "I actually might have chucked a glass of wine, too. I just didn't think it was the way to treat a paying audience. I mean, aside from making a mockery of Stevie like that. Really unprofessional, over the top. Yes, she cried. She cried a lot."
Is this the first time we have heard about Mr. Buckingham throwing a guitar at her? This is what she said back then.
Lindsey and I had another huge thing that happened onstage in New Zealand. We had some kind of a fight, and he came over - might have kicked me, did something to me, and we stopped the show. He went off, and we all ran at breakneck speed back to the dressing room to see who could kill him first. Christine got to him first, and then I got to him second - the bodyguards were trying to get in the middle of all of us."
wondergirl9847
11-01-2005, 07:19 PM
I think Stevie's story is like those stories we told as kids where one person tells up to a point, then the next person adds stuff to it and so on and so on. Christine is all "He kicked at her and I slapped him...take it, Stevie." and Stevie is all "Then, he threw his guitar at me and endangered my life! Take it, Mick."
I keed. Thanks for typing that up for us!
David
11-01-2005, 07:26 PM
So, the Les Paul throwing incident was actually the kicking incident, of were there more incidents, or are we just not getting the entire gist?I think Stevie & Mick & maybe even Chris are all conflating several incidents into one -- or two?
The Rhiannon mockery incident is in Mick's book, & then Stevie, Chris & even Lindsey commented on it a few years ago.
Now Stevie claims that Lindsey threw his Les Paul at her during the last song of the set. Right off the bat, what? It's not Rhiannon, it's Go Your Own Way? And Lindsey didn't play a Les Paul for Go Your Own Way. So the Turner has transformed into a Les Paul in Stevie's memory (or more likely, she really has no idea & doesn't care which guitar he's using).
Here's my hunch: Despite these remembrances of some incident in New Zealand on the Tusk Tour by four members of the band, we have yet to hear the complete & completely accurate story of what actually happened, or how many incidents there actually were. We just have a mass of vaguely corroborated events, along with some flat-out contradictions & unlikelihoods, from Stevie, Mick, Stephen Davis, Lindsey, & Christine.
John has -- maybe wisely -- stayed out of it!
LeighB04
11-01-2005, 07:39 PM
I'm more inclined to believe Mick and Christine - we all know how reliable Stevie's memory is, and how she tends to say things that aren't actually real.....those pesky crystal visions!!

I never thought of LB as a womanizer but I do think that it comes down to the fact that LB sort of moved on and she never did. She makes it look like a rosy picture but I think deep down inside she is bitter that LB has kids and she doesn't.

I just said womanizer because she has said that the guys on the road just cannot help themselves to the women who are everywhere, etc.
But, I agree that somewhere in her she wishes she had had children, but realizes it just was never to be for her, esp. considering guys can have kids up until the day they die at 98 years old and women cannot.

Yes I am sure that some of the guys are like that but Stevie paints a picture like she is a saint and she is not. I have heard that she was worse then any man. Who really knows I think it is safe to say that the whole band did lots of indulging.
LB just seems to kind of be more subdued then some men. Don Henley now he is a womanizer. J/K
Yes, I am sure that she sees LB and Mick and Don with children and figures that life is not fair for women.

I guess we're all trying to watch at the same time. Everytime I play it, it stops in the middle of the interview and goes back to the beginning. I cannot sit through the journalist introducing the story again

I believe that's all NZ footage -- I don't know if they toured the country (I'm pretty sure they didn't even leave Auckland)
That looks like Mission Bay near the end of the clip -- any other kiwis on the board have different ideas?
Does anyone who's seen the Tusk Tour footage know if all of this was included in the original video or if these are outtakes/extra footage we're seeing here??
Thanks. :D

Well, the beach footage is not from the Tusk Tour. Lindsey has a fro. Definately Rumours Tour. So, it wasn't shot during their time in NZ during the Tusk Tour.

Are you sure about the hair? When they're getting off the plane to a powhiri (maori welcome) it doesn't look very fro-like to me...
Edit: Just realised what you said, the stuff on the beach is probably Rumours tour stuff... I wish they would release some of this footage, there must be so much unreleased stuff locked away in vaults somewhere deep inside Hollywood...

when we broke up, he hated that fact that i was such a lead singer. And Im sure when we left New Zealand, we were not even on the same plane.
(My Mother & Aunty went to this concert and she remembers them storming off stage, but she said it was more like 4 or 5 songs into it, not the last song  )
I worked with a contractor a few years ago who upon seeing the Stevie Nicks pictures on the wall of my office, mentioned that he had seen and spent time with her during this time. He was working promotions. He said she very much did stay behind while the rest of the band flew back to the states. According to him, she was there for a few days... having a big long party. He said she got really friendly (drunk, according to him) although nothing juicy. She left him a personalized 8x10 signed "thanks for the fun." All the guys he worked with teased him about it for a long time. I didn't believe him because he seemed kinda flakey to me, but that's probably because I'm a stodgie old American and he is an Aussie. Anyway, I asked him if there had been a fight on stage and he said he didn't know because he didn't see the show and doesn't recall anyone talking about it... not that they would if there was. So... heh, that's my little 2nd hand news on the subject.

This was really awesome! Thanks for posting it. I was waiting for the Lindsey-kicked-me-Christine-threw-wine-in-Lindsey's-face story so I was surprised about the Les Paul thing. He likes to throw guitars, doesn't he? I personally love the way Stevie talks. It's so messy and jumbled and screwed up and somehow it always makes sense at the end of the sentence. As for the spiel about Lindsey, thank gawd she said it herself. No divorce.

I don't recall seeing any of this footage in the Tusk doc.. or any other footage. This was the first time I've seen the beach and airport stuff. How would the Up Close people have gotten this to put together the interview with Stevie? Is this something they would have pulled from their own archives? I would imagine so.

I could listen to Stevie's stories all day, everyday, 24/7...she cracks me up.
Loved the old TUSK airport footage...I had never seen that!
And I loved the bit about LB being a happy dad.
But we all knew that...RIGHT?

Yes, that's probably what they did. Close Up is on TV One, owned by TVNZ, the state broadcaster. I emailed the NZ Film Archive (http://www.filmarchive.org.nz/) once and asked about obtaining/purchasing footage from them and they were reasonably helpful; they hinted that they had footage available but "[the rights] were all owned by Warner Bros." and there was no way they could send me anything without clearing it through them first...
So long story short, WB has the rights to reels and reels of rare unreleased footage that they could (should) release, but they aren't for some reason.
Rant over. :P
Cool video. Thanks for posting. Stevie looks good and you've gotta love "unvaulted" Mac footage. :]

She obviously has issues. She's in total denial that he's a grown up now...with a family. She can' deal.
I don't see why it's so difficult to understand this. Real life and artistic life have been lived as separate entities from many artists, especially after they split. Sand -De Musset was an example. Verlaine - Rimbaud was another.

Yes. thank Gawd Stevie cleared all that up. Her jumbled mess of words was so enlightening.
