The fix on Nicks
HER lead-up form includes several Kentucky derbys, the first of which she attended after jetting in on a private plane with Dennis Hopper and Dwight Yoakam. But like everyone else flocking to Flemington today, rock singer Stevie Nicks has been agonising over what to wear. "I think I'm going to have a bit of an Australian cowgirl look going," says Nicks, who is adamant that for once it will be a no-frills affair. Nicks, who will perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on the Melbourne leg of her Australialian tour in February and March next year, is planning to be something of a stayer herself during the cup carnival. On Saturday she presents a trophy to the winners of a race named in her honour and tomorrow she is attending a ladies lunch beginning at what for her is the ungodly hour of 12.30 sharp. "Can I tell you the last time I had lunch with anybody? I don't get up early."

You silly girls! Everyone knows that an Australian cowgirl rides a kangaroo and instead of singing "Home on the Range," 'round the campfire, they sing "Tie me kangaroo down, sport..." They eat vegamite sandwiches instead of vittles and beans, and they play the didgeridoo instead of acoustic guitars. I would imagine their dress is similar to any other cowgirl? :p

I'm not sure of any particular image but the reality would probably be one of hideous hand-me-down clothes, thongs, beer stubbies and female mullets.

 Have fun, give us a report!

I believe the technical term for an Australian Cowgirl would be a "jilleroo" (Ozzies back me up on this :p ). To me it kinda looks like Johnny Cash doing drag:

I've been informed that I have to report the mini Stevie interview I saw. They were talking about what she was wearing but I don't even remember what it was. I'm sure nobody's interested but that was the most historic running of the Melbourne Cup ever. So yes, I saw her and if you see her it is apparently your duty to report. Um.....I think it was black. I know it's unimaginable but I wasn't listening to what she said, I was just tuning in to the race.

Lux, you are such a Stevie sighting tease.

You seeing Stevie is like....a gay man with a hot girlfriend. Useless. And frustrating. Or like a diabetic with some twinkies. Or like trying to buy a rich person a birthday/christmas present. Futile.
I think my point is made.
Glad you are enjoying the thing, though.
Also, I'm enjoying how Stevie's sleep schedule seems to be akin to my own. All days I don't work, i seem to get up at 12 or one.

We are a giant landmass useful for little more than cattle grazing so we have plenty of "cowboys" (although they're not really called that) and they do not dress like American cowboys. I could tell you what they look like but as for their women, I'm not sure of any particular image but the reality would probably be one of hideous hand-me-down clothes, thongs, beer stubbies and female mullets. To each their own but I feel somebody should warn her of how this will go down with the Melbourne socialites.

I need to leave now to watch it or I'll be the only Australian who misses it. Cup day is fun but socialites who attend the Cup make me want to extract my own kidneys, although I do not refer to our subject, just the regulars.

I don't want to post twice but someone asked who John Farnham is. Just google him. He's not known elsewhere but he has had a huge career within our borders and although I do not like him, it's hard not to know him. He's dull to me and far from my own musical likings but he does have a technically brilliant voice.

Thanks for weighing in. I wonder if all the lunch ladies will stare at stevie as if she is a bizarre alien? I hope so. I hope her boobies are in evidence, too.
Also, She probably just means that she'll wear a hat. Hopefully she won't don an ugly shirt just to fit in. With the mullet thong wearing cowgirls.

I'm thinking in Stevie's little crystalline vision mind, Aussie cowgirls dress in lots of black chiffon.....maybe with a hat....
