Nix about Stevie rumours from council
31 October 2005
By ROB MAETZIG
New Plymouth District Council officials hurredly ducked for cover yesterday over rumours that Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks is to perform at the Bowl of Brooklands in March.
The American singer and songwriter is apparently booked for a three-concert New Zealand tour with Australian vocalist John Farnham, with the performances at North Harbour on March 4, New Plymouth's Bowl of Brooklands on March 5, and Christchurch on March 8.
But is the beautiful American, famous for such hits as Sara, Stop Dragging My Heart Around and Talk To Me, actually coming to Taranaki? Yesterday it was nix about Nicks from the New Plymouth District Council, which is responsible for Bowl bookings.
Mayor Peter Tennent appeared momentarily lost for words when asked if a Nicks/Farnham concert had been confirmed.
Then he said: "I'd rather not comment on that. But I will say that some exciting acts are coming."
The council's manager for recreation and events, Dave Lee, was even less forthcoming.
"I'm not going to confirm anything. When we're in a position to confirm something, we'll let you know," he said.
