View Full Version : Setlist Survivor Round 1

I've been thinking about doing this for a while now, but there've always been other "survivor" games going on & it's just too much for me to concentrate on, quite frankly ;) . I'm putting in every tune Stevie did in 2005 (I think I've got them all in there.)

I won't give a set time that the voting will end for each round - every few days I'll count 'em up & start a new round.

Enchanted
Outside the Rain
Dreams
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (with Don)
SDMHA (w/o Don)
Rhiannon
Sorcerer
Stand Back
Landslide

I don't hate the song, but it was tired. I was absolutely thrilled when she dumped it & put in different covers instead.

So over rated this tour. It was the one song in Cleveland I didnt really like. I Need to Know was AMAZING. It better not go first. I guess I may have wasted my vote then, but Oh Well.

BTW Paula, Excellent Survivor idea. I stopped participating in them for awhile but this one has resparked my interest.

Ahem.....

:o

Dreams doesn't sound bad without the high notes. In fact, we are all used to it lowered and prolly never listen to the original. FFG has that big build up to "the note" and it fizzled every single time....It was a big tease with a bigger let down. It just doesn't cut it on stage.

See now, that's how I feel about Dreams. But I must see Rhiannon live! Sometimes you can still see a spark of the old Stevie when she does this song.

as were some of the RAL ones - SHIVERS I TELL YOU.

Personally, I do not like the song How Still My Love (though the GO ONE GET OUT) parts were cool in Vegas. But, she wrote it, so I did not choose it.

Dreams. It was a toss-up between this boring thing and the currently dreadful Rhiannon. My sights are set on How Still My Love, though, because she absolutely butchered the climax of the song.

Wow, I loved that part. But then, I love FFG. And she was so saucy during HSML. And good god, at least they were songs she doesn't usually do.

It's difficult for me to pick a song because there are so many that need to be cut from the setlist. I love the studio version of this song but it's never been a favorite of my live. I don't think she should do it anymore unless Tom will sing it with her.

I sincerely wonder if Stevie really knew her die-hard fans were sick of certains songs and the general population did not want to hear them anymore if she would consider dropping them. Any thoughts? Is she totally obvlivous or is possible she would make a change?

Going over this setlist again just solidifies my belief that Stevie needs to toss half these songs out. I'm praying that doing some of them with a symphony will pump some new life into them.

First one that needs to go is ENCHANTED. Somebody needs to tell her that it was nice that she did it for the box set tour, but enough is enough. And to open with it??:distress:

Regarding playing the hits, she could get away with dumping the FM songs if she would play more solo hits: Talk To Me, If Anyone Falls (surely she can figure out how to sing it without Lori?), Rooms On Fire, and sort-of hits: MLWCYM, Nightbird.

Why she creates a solo concert setlist largely filled with FM hits, cover songs, and non-hits that she's done in other tours baffles me.

I am voting this because id love to save I Need to Know. This is a song that I never get sick of and always listen to it on the bootlegs. I must say as a child I was introduced to this song on the HBO tape. Never really dug it. When I saw Red Rocks....that was it for me. Absolutely loved it. I love it to this day and YES i was pissed when it was dropped this year. Still trying to track down bootlegs from those first 3 shows :(

Stop Draggin My Heart Around does have a special place in my heart though. I really started getting into Stevie in 2001 and she opened with this song. I thought it was a GREAT opener. I was sick of OTR/Dreams intro by then so it was great to see something new. Then they did that super cool jones beach thing and they followed her with the camera out on stage.....so great.

end ramble....

I believe this summer in Cleveland Ohio i read that she attracted about 14,000 fans, solo, with nothing to promote. If thats not packing, then what is?

You wouldn't think so, but the majority of the people I was sitting near at my shows knew the hits & that was it. That goes for Mac shows too - most had no clue they had a new CD out & new songs were used for bathroom/beer breaks. Sad but true.

I know what you're saying, but she really did take some chances & make some changes this past year! To say that she should play what the diehards want to hear because we buy the expensive tickets is crap. There are planty of diehards who can't afford the best seats AND there are plenty of casual fans who have the money to get the best seats to every show they go to see, no matter who the artist is.

If there are 5000 people at a show, you can bet that at least4500 are what we would consider casual fans, probably more. They do not go to 5 shows of hers on one tour (only freaks like me do that :p ) so they want to hear the songs she's most well known for - Rhiannon, Dreams, Landslide, Edge, Stand Back, GDW, SDMHA. Would they know TTM & ROF? Probably, and I would like to hear these tunes again. But for whatever reason, Stevie opts not to do them.

I really don't think Stevie needs to do FM songs on her solo tours...or covers for that matter. I loved Rock n Roll, but she has enough solo material to do without both.
