I know there are a few Australia threads, but news sometimes gets buried quickly in discussion & I thought the confirmation of another tourdate and mention of a live DVD warranted a new one ;). I checked first and didn't see anything, but my apologies if it has already been posted.

Nicks races to track
Nui Te Koha
28oct05
FLEETWOOD Mac's Stevie Nicks will perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on her solo tour in February.
Nicks, 58, will film her performance with the MSO for a DVD. She will be in Melbourne on Monday to launch the tour and will attend the Melbourne Cup Carnival as a guest of her tour promoter, Andrew McManus.
McManus said Nicks was also thrilled about having a race named in her honour at Emirates Stakes Day.
"I was in Atlanta trying to get Stevie to focus on some business we needed to do, and all she wanted to discuss was this race," McManus said.
"She is really pumped about it."
Nicks sings for Fleetwood Mac, a US group whose hits include Dreams, Rhiannon and Landslide. Her solo hits include Stand Back, Talk To Me and Edge of Seventeen.
She is notoriously five-star, preferring private jet travel, and has her Bel Air mansion furniture shipped in to make backstage feel like home.
Nicks will perform with Australian singer John Farnham in Brisbane and Perth, while US singer Vanessa Carlton will be her support act in Melbourne.
Nicks performs at Rod Laver Arena on February 18. Tickets go on sale on November 15.

Um....let's hope she doesn't talk about how she enjoyed taking photos of her dolls to "create a world" in Vegas. 57 year old taking pics of dolls? I can just hear it now:
"Dammit Sharon. Dolly and Miss B's arms are not positioned right! Turn their heads...to the right...little more...THERE!" :snap: "Perfect for my show!"
Oy. How embarassing.

Oy. How embarassing.Stevie collects dolls and took pics of her collection. Lots of people take pics of their collections. What's so embarrassing about that?
Or is just because she happened to use the pics of her collection in the background screen montage?

Great to see the symphony seems to be a go, and wonderful news about the DVD. I was sort of hoping Stevie would be playing at a symphony hall or a theater but it appears she's just playing big sports arenas?

Well, Anne Rice bought a like 10,000 sq. ft. 150 year old Queen Anne mansion on St. Charles Ave. in NOLA and let her dolls live there even though she and no one other than the caretaker did  If you are into her, this is the house the St. Charles Mayfairs lived in the second book of The Witching Hour series.

Hooray for the DVD and symphony! Hope it turns out to be true...and especially hope that the symphony gets confirmed before tickets go on sale. $1,500 for a plane ticket is too much to fork up without confirmation.
And I was sort of hoping Stevie would be playing symphony halls or theaters for this special round of shows, but it seems like just big sports arenas?? I'd think she'd want to ensure the best quality of sound if performing with an orchestra.

She and the promoter want to ensure the greatest infusion of cash possible.

I wonder why even bother with the symphony then? She would sell just as many seats without it.

There is nothing wrong with taking pictures of dolls! Following Stevie across the United States (and soon other countries)...and spending a fortune on that...Seeing her more than 10 - 15 times on one tour...those people are weird. Let her have whatever background she wants to have. And by the way, If you couldn't understand the mystical or artistic aspect of those dolls then you probably don't understand the meaning of her or the song Rhiannon. Maybe she should just put a picture of the "Street Angel" album cover during Rhiannon.

And I think people who post on Stevie Nicks message boards and YET still think obsessed fans who follow her over the country are "weird"---are welll WEIRD! As if that is any less "Weird" than following her around the country?

I don't think any of us are in a position to judge, or to decide what's "weird." So let's avoid going down that road.

I don't think the doll collecting is weird. But the doll she got in Australia during the SYW tour was pretty damned weird. Quite scary and revolting, actually.

...Yes... its free and not time consuming to check a Fleetwood Mac message board for a few minutes every other day...in my case, I have computer accessibility in my office...... :(
How does that compare to following Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac around the country?
There are different degrees of obsession and
there are different degrees of weirdness
End of story morning glory! :p

. . . There are different degrees of obsession and
there are different degrees of weirdness
End of story morning glory! :p
and beauty is in the eye of the beholder - thus comparison of any of those things is meritless. To some, checking a chatboard is lame and concerts are all that really matter. To other, the opposite could be true. Thus, to call out one as stranger than the other is a subjective test at best.

Exactly different degrees of weirdness..perhaps your degree of "weirdness" is lower than that of those who follow them around the country? God forbid, someone who has the money, spend it on something they enjoy...terrible and WEIRD i know!!
