yikes guys that was quick!
Im a bit nervous.... im worried that i will buy a ticket, get my hair done, buy a new dress, and get there only to find she is off in other tents doing rounds because it isn't an option on the big cup day.
I haven't called to confirm that i want the ticket, im waiting on a call back from someone i met in sydney 04 to see if they want to go before i call. Im a but worried... its a lot of $$ and because i haven't heard about her going to this day im scared she aint going to be there, or i'll see her across the field in another tent!

oh, totally. That wasn't my point. My point was in response to Ghost Tracker implying that if Janis 01 didn't buy these thousand dollar tickets, that she would be remiss, and that she thusly would not have any cool memories of her life when she was 96. Because she didn't buy these tickets. Which is absurd and bullying.
That was what I was saying.

I understand.... you are right, thats what im thinking. This really is the biggest opportunity i will ever have... Just dont want the devastation if she isn't there.
$$ wise your absolutely right. When you think about it, if i go to even one show in another state the $$ are: flights $300, accom maybe $200, ticket $200, food etc $50, taxi's $40.... what are we up to $790! and thats just to be in the crowd...
Yep, i gotta go, just trying to get someone to come with me, dont want to go on my own. :distress:

p.s- yes anyone who is coming to the tour in feb is welcome at my place in melbourne.

If Stevie charges people close to a thousand bucks for something, and then she is not there, I will hate her forever.
Is there any other reason why your tic would be so expensive?
StreetAngel86
10-28-2005, 05:02 AM
Janis.......I will go with u :) i was going to go on Saturday but I havent booked anything EXACTLY for the reason u have. One of my best friends lives in Melb and i have her keeping me informed if Stevie's presence is around. but i haven't heard or seen anything to confirm ANY day that she is making an appearance. Based on what i've read I would assume Stevie would be rocking up on the Tuesday AND on the Saturday.
I would be so pissed wasting plane tickets, accomo AND race fees never mind the tent if Stevie DIDNT show up.
My mom would spew if I told her i spent 1000$ on a ticket
but i would think about it like this...........i would rather spend 1000$ and MEET Stevie and maybe go to one show next year rather than going to ALL her aussie shows and NEVER meeting her :D

Stevie is not the one charging for the tickets
that's generally the entrance fee for all VIP tents.......I think some are more than that?

So your thousand bucks is kind of like a general pass?
um........no not really.
how to explain this
very rich people/companies pay to house tents at the race track.....for music reps, designers etc. Usually only VIPs get invites, likes celebs and stuff but they still have to pay to get in. I think that generally only means they can stay in THAT tent. U can't just going into all the tents lol without a pass  ANyone can get INTO Flemington (the race course) but the marquees and stuff, that's another story :)

Okay...my point is, are you nearly guaranteed to meet Stevie, or not?
I don't care if you buy the tick, but if you are looking for advice, I would never pay that much on the OFF CHANCE that I would run into Stevie, unless there were other major perks.
But - if I had a lot of money, I would do it no matter what! :D

you're asking the wrong person LOL ive never been to the cup before.
that is why i havent bought anything because i would need to know that before hand. 1000+$ to MAYBE see Stevie is not good enough for meeeeeee and the other ppl in the tent aren't my cup of tea so i would prob be better off learning for my psych exam
and p.s i'm a Uni student, i don't have money LOL but the money i do have needs to go to GOOD Stevie usage :)
i wish i could tell y a more but i dont know anyone who would know that stuff either

I agree!!!
I know a lot of fans here in the States paid $500-$1000/ticket to attend one of the AZ Heart Institute benefits because they thought they would actually meet Stevie. Then she ended up giving a speech behind some velvet ropes and disappearing, and fans were really angry. They felt they had been promised a chance to meet her (which they had NOT) and felt cheated. The "proper" attitude to buy a ticket with is that you are buying a ticket to attend an event or make a donation. If you happen to get the chance to meet Stevie, GREAT! Expect NOTHING and be pleasantly surprised.
To purchase a $1000 ticket (which you seem to have indicated is a bit of a stretch for you) thinking you will meet her, especially when there is NO indication she will actually be there (never assume anything with La Nicks) seems to be not a wise investment. Even if she's in the tent, you might not get close enough to meet her or shake her hand (talk to people who attended that benefit!). Buy the ticket to enjoy the event, not JUST to meet Stevie. You would probably end up sorely disappointed and out $1000.

Okay, so it does appear that Stevie WILL be there that day (see article in another thread) and presenting at 3:45. But I personally wouldn't spend money that I can't afford to "lose" on an off-chance I MIGHT meet someone. Just my opinion, of course.

Holy crap. I can well, well, well understand the hesitation of spending $1000 if you're not even assured of meeting her. Hell, I'm not sure I would drop $1000 to meet her. And guys, you have no idea how much I want to meet her. But $1000. ??
If I had $1000 to drop (and I so do not), I think I could come up with a few more places that would benefit a whole lot more than me meeting my favourite celeb. I am NOT judging anyone. I guess I'm just stunned that anyone would drop that kind of money for the "chance" of meeting her. I love her to death. Seriously, there's no one I'd like to meet more, simply to say 'thank you for making my life happier." But $1000?
Maybe I'm just a whole lot poorer than a lot of people here. :distress:

It's all relative, moneywise. I mean, when I was just a pup, or just started my career, I would never do it. It would have been really stupid. But now? A great party - a chance to hang with some really wealthy possible business contacts, a great story to tell ? In a heartbeat. Thankfully, because of where I live and what I do, I get to go to things like this for free all the time. Hell, I TURN THEM DOWN. We all have different lives. But yeah, if it means you can't eat or pay rent, it is silly to spend the grand.

Well, what it is is that you cannot go inbetween tents whatsoever, you get a ticket into one only, no links to other etc. So yes by the other threads i have gathered that YES Stevie WILL be attending that day!! Brilliant, hopefully though that because she is presenting she wont be tied up with that scene that whole day which may occur..
IN THE END: you gotta take the chance, i believe that 90% of us here would agree with that. Its my best chance...ever of meeting this lady. Of course Melbourne cup day would gaurentee me meeting her and spending hours with her, but gotta take what you can!

HELLO - I applaud you for doing so. I mean if you do not, why live. Worst comes to worst, you can always pay it off over time if you cut back a little over the next few months or even a year presuming you have a good job, etc., but that memory will last your life

MEDIA RELEASE
27 October 2005
THE HOTTEST TICKET FOR SPRING RACING
Promoter Andrew McManus is the talk of the town as he launches a new marquee in the Birdcage for the Spring Racing Carnival 2005. From AAMI Victoria Derby Day (Saturday 29 October) through to Emirates Stakes Day (Saturday 5 November), Andrew McManus Presents (AMP) will host international artists, Australian music industry guests and clients.
Following the success last night of Luciano Pavarotti's recital at the Victoria Racing Club Chairman's Dinner, which raised $100,000 for Challenge - supporting kids with cancer, AMP rocks into a week of Spring Racing with its marquee taking centre stage.
AAMI Victoria Derby Day (Saturday 29 October) sees the unveiling of the AMP marquee. Designed in true rock star style, a full wall in velvety charcoal shag pile carpet features five plasma TV's screening music, with marquee performances by DJ Scott Pullen. During his career, Pullen has played for Keanu Reeves, Kylie Minogue, Jamiroquai and Lleyton Hewitt and Bec Cartwright.
The marquee colour scheme is monochromatic black, white and silver with an interior stainless steel water wall (2½ metres tall, 4 metres long). A '70's inspired sunken conversation pit is the centrepiece around which the marquee is designed; the retro alcove has built in seating, throw cushions and centre table.
Legendary rock singer Stevie Nicks has accepted an invitation from McManus to be a VIP guest in his marquee on Emirates Melbourne Cup Day (Tuesday 1 November). The Fleetwood Mac front woman said this week, "I am so honored to be a part of something with such cultural value as the Melbourne Cup and the whole week of the racing carnival. I know it's a very special time for the city and I'm thrilled to be able to experience it all first hand.
"Besides the great racing, I've been told the fashion is wonderful and so my designer Margi Kent and I are having so much fun planning my outfits. I know it's going to be a fantastic week."
Early on in her career, Nicks developed her own distinct sense of style. Nicks originally met her designer Margi Kent in the first year of Fleetwood Mac. Working together throughout their careers, Kent is designing outfits and matching millinery for Nicks' appearance at this year's Carnival.
Official musical act of the 2005 Melbourne Cup Carnival, WILD, will also be performing from the marquee live on the Seven Network Sunrise program on Cup morning.
US singing sensation Kelly Clarkson is on her way to Australia for her first ever tour in November, and has been invited to attend the AMP marquee. If her schedule permits, Melbourne could see the star join the AMP marquee on Crown Oaks Day.

Damn, the person i was going to go with cant make it... He is a professional business person, acutally a national sales manager of a major group, and he is committed on the day..
So just on my own.... i dont think this is a good idea, in a corporate atmosphere of big shots i will feel insecure and just not feel very confident. So i take my partner, he suits these atmospheres.. but for another $750! What an expensive escort!
What do you guys think?

I'd totally go alone. I wouldn't want to be distracted from watching Stevie's every move, and then grabbing the best opportunity to approach her and say hello. :) You can do it!! Just grab a drink and look like you belong! Maybe Stevie will even talk to you MORE if she realizes you're alone.

Go by yourself. You'll be fine. A lot of times I have a good time by myself cause I can do whatever I want. And then you can focus on Stevie.
