I've heard several times over the years that most people don't really like this song. I am not one of those people. I think it's wonderful. First of all, I'm a sucker for all things Petty, I think the man is a genius. Plus, this song rocks! It's not in my top 10 or anything, but I never understood why so much hate for this tune. :shrug:

I don't think I can really compare it to SDMHA, because I get such a different feel from each of them. But I think I can honestly say I like IWRTY more. Insider is a different story :cool: . But I digress.

The music - classic Heartbreakers from the first notes you hear. :nod: Eternally cool. Love it.

The lyrics sound desparate, like "I will do anything" My favorite (mainly for Stevie's vocal on "show some mercy hunay!"):

"Make it easy for me
I been lonely baby
Show some mercy honey
I was nothing
All those lonely nights
Showed me something
If you need me
I'll come runnin'"

Their harmonies are solid - it doesn't take my breath away (like Insider does) but it's good. Stevie's very strong on this song, and she always sounds great with Tom.

"Insider" it ain't.

But I do like it. I went through a phase (when I first got WH) when I listened to it all the time, but I got over that relatively quickly. I like it but don't love it.

I prefer Insider and SDMHA by a long shot but I still really like I Will Run to You. Its a great song. I love the way Stevie sings the first few lines of the song.

I always skip it- Tom just sounds too whinny for my tastes- In fact he has sounded whinny even since- Breakdown :eek: :eek:
I said something bad about Tom Petty :shrug: , shall I run away now??

I like it quite a bit. It's very strange, and I love stevie's solo verse, and, is it just me, but does she sound extra super twangy-drawly on it?

I love the verse Paula quoted, too.
To my ears, it's an unusual sounding song, the harmony is strange, and I like it.
and, like others said, Tom and Stevie together is gold.

I prefer it to "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around". One of her best duets, imo.

I love every song on TWH. It is by far her best album.
I wish she would try to be that adventurous (within the confines of a pop song that is) again...

I love this song...their voices are gorgeous together...so 70's/80's with the synths...which I love. Her voice when she says 'come around' is just the greatest. It's what makes Stevie, 'Stevie'. NO ONE has that voice...

Considering that The Wild Heart was such a polished-sounding record, this one sticks out like a sore thumb. It has this random beginning that just comes out of nowhere with random guitar noodlings, which has always irked me. It just sounds unfinished.

I Will Run To You is hot. I used to not really like this song, until about 10 years ago, and then one day....I remember it so well.....that part where they sing together....

Oh, it struck such a chord...the desperation and passion in their voices. If I didn't know better, this song would have me believe that Stevie and Tom were keeping some pretty intense mutual attraction under wraps... Eeew. :laugh:

Like all of The Wild Heart....this one sounds much more vibrant on vinyl. :nod:

I gave it the top ranking. My 2nd favorite on the WH. I love the opening guitar riff. I don't know, it's a very different song. It's sexy and they both sound great IMO.

I didnt used to be a bif fan of it, but lately, I'm really starting to love it. Its not "Insider" (thanks Romy, btw that live version kicks ass), but its great. I love the desperation in Stevie's voice, imo. Also, the Heartbreakers music just kicks ass. All in all, not the first song that comes to mind if asked my fave songs, but definately one I really really enjoy.

I agree with Paula that any Tom/Stevie collaboration is a good thing. I do love this song and I really like Stevie vocals on it too. I give it a :thumbsup:

That's the first line that comes to mind when I think of this song. That's one of my favourite Stevie singing bits right there...that one line. I love IWRTY more than SDMHA and maybe more than Insider. Definitely a 5 star song for me.

This is another one, first off, I didn't love, but then I heard HER voice...some songs, her voice just blows me away...the soft vibrato, not grating or loud, but THERE...and she sounds so fragile, but we know she is so strong when she needs to be, she is MAGICK!

I put most of the time...
I couldn't give it the top rating becuase tragically....(I'm so ashamed) I just discovered this song. But I DO love it! :D

I'd take I will Run to You over SDMHA any day!! I do like SDMHA, but there is something about I WIll Run to You that gets me.

I totally agree...I think all their duets are great, but that SDMHA is the weakest. Insider and IWRTY are absolute perfection.
