What killed me is that he's (she's?) STARTING the bidding out at this price. AND there's a reserve. Maybe it was a mistake & they meant to start it at $23. Or maybe they're just an A-Hole. :wavey:

One just sold on ebay for over $300 recently, and another one around $250. He's a jackass for starting the bidding that high - not to mention a dumbass, paying for the high starting price ebay fees. I paid $75 for mine - not sure what that makes me!

I paid under a dollar for it at a thrift shop. I got it the same day I got Lynne Cheney's lesbian pornfic "Sisters," if memory serves me correctly.

Oh. Um. OK, I didn't realize it has gone that high. Holy crap. I'm sorry, I would never pay that much for a book. JMO.
Still - to start the bidding that high? Good luck. He/she is probably the person that paid $300 last time, read it & is now trying to get some of their cash back.

Yeah, I like to watch stuff I already own - to justify my "estimated value" column on my spreadsheet of memorabilia. It's not a great book by any means, but it does have some nice pics and it's just extremely rare cuz it's out of print.
I just checked to see if I still had the other ones on my watched list, but I already deleted 'em. However, this is the same seller's second listing at the same starting price for this item.

That's a good idea. I've done that occasionally, but of course all of my stuff end up being crap.
This person has only had a few transactions. Hopefully he/she will learn soon - lower the price, dude, it will go up.

I got one in '86 and then lent it to someone in college in the 90's and never got it back. :( Needless to say, I wouldn't pay that much to replace it.

I watched and watched and watched other people pay HIGH prices for this book, & finally got lucky and got one for $50 in early spring, no one paid attention to the auction, I was so happy! I too saw a recent one go for about $300, they are getting the $$ for them now. Look how much people paid for the Gold Dust Tour Book - $167!!!

 :p I dreamed about owning that book when I was younger, DREAMED I tell ya! That and the Tusk documentary, I imagined finding them in some old shop. It never happened either.
That's quite sad to admit isn't it? I don't think that book was ever published the UK, so it's highly unlikely I'll ever even see one. Oh well.

The book is nothing special. I don't think I even read it, just browsed through it and stuck it somewhere. I found a lot of cool things that day; the novelizations for "Labyrinth" and Carpenter's "Halloween," a "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" book, Lynne Cheney's pornography, etc.
I have so much useless junk, lemme tell ya. :p

I guess the Stevie book has become almost mythical to fans because it's so rare.
Obviously no one must have bought it back when it was first published, so it doesn't surprise me it's bad.
I just really wanted it when I was younger (well still do) because it was the only book about Stevie out there.
Now of course we have those amazing Edward Wincentsen books *snigger*

I tried to order the book when it was first published. But my local bookstore told me it couldn't be ordered-that it wasn't in stock! I just don't think they ever published that many copies of them for some reason. I've never gotten my hands on a copy but I've been trying since the day it was published. But uhm, sorry, there's no way I'm paying this kind of money for it! EVER.

Obviously no one must have bought it back when it was first published, so it doesn't surprise me it's bad.I've read it. Borrowed it from one of the libraries in our state, through our Inter-Library Loan program.
It's a pleasant enough book, though very clearly intended for young/junior high readers.
I've always wanted to have a copy of it though, but I absolutely wouldn't spend more than $20 for it, MAX.

Your wish is my command:
"She was sitting with her legs bent in inverted V's, and when she leaned back on her arms to consider her arrangement, Sophie saw that the front of her dress strained slightly. Her breasts were growing, and Sophie wondered if she had begun to menstruate yet. And if she had, would she tell her about it? Would her odd matter-of-factness carry over to her own coming of age? Sophie remembered when her own flow had begun.
The women who embraced in the wagon were Adam and Eve crossing a dark cathedral stage- no, Eve and Eve, loving one another as they ate of the fruit and knew themselves as they truly were. She felt curiously moved, curiously envious of them. She had never to this moment thought Eden a particularly attractive paradise, based as it was on naivete, but she saw that the women in the cart had a passionate, loving intimacy forever closed to her. How strong it made them. What comfort it gave.
Society as a whole might conclude that women were sexless creatures, but she knew otherwise. And she also knew that claiming a relationship was not erotic, thinking it could not be, would not keep it from being so. Oh, doubtless such convictions dictated limits one could not go beyond without destroying the myth. There could be no tearing off of one's clothes and lustily hopping into bed, not if one would preserve the love-religion. But the loving words and the warm embrace were permitted, and the kiss before sleep, the arousal gentle enough so that its nature would not have to be acknowledged."
