Glorious, epic song - I give this one 5 hearts :) . Classic Stevie - emotional lyrics, soaring vocals, beautiful music. The pulsating cymbal at the beginning really grabs me, then gives way to the lush piano, drums, guitar & vocals that work so exquisitely together.

Favorite lyrics:

"Something in my heart died last night
Just one more chip off an already broken heart"

"I run around like a spirit in flight
Fearlessness is fearlessness
I will not forget this night
Dare my wild heart"

"Fire on fire...rain on my face
Fever goes higher...what can you do
Wild in the darkest places of your mind
That's where I needed you
Where I needed you most"

"Where are the children
Well are they hopelessly enchanted
Blame it on the angels"

The way she delivers the vamp at the end is awesome, "darkest...places...of your mind" especially.

I think this could have been great live in concert to open the Wild Heart shows. But it's another one that I don't really want her to do live now - not enough power & emotion. Either way, I don't think the album version could ever be matched. Yeah, yeah, I know, dressing room version. Maybe if my copy had better sound, I'd be more impressed. But the album version is tops for me.

I think that this song is about Stevie, Robin & Kim. Actually, I think a lot of the album is about them. I am aware that may not be a popular opinion, but it's how I feel. I think this song in particular smacks of Stevie telling everyone "we didn't mean for this to happen, we couldn't help our hearts & emotions, the grief was so great we had to share it." A good example:

"In dark sorrow
They gaze down into the darkest heart
If I leave you
You say not even you can tear us apart
Say you're leaving
You say you don't even know
How to start...how to start...how to start"

I think "blame it on the angels" refers to Robin.

I also think that at the time, she truly believed that marrying Kim was the best thing to do & that it somehow honored Robin to take care of her husband & son. Of course, we all know that it didn't work out that way. But for this song (this album, for that matter) I believe she was grieving & thought she was in love at the same time. Mixed emotions - it made everything wild & scary & incredible & crazy all at once.

BTW - until pretty recently, I thought the line was "damn my wild heart." :o

I gave it 4 hearts.

I dunno. Some days I love it. Some days I skip it. It's in between for me.

I do think she was trying to recapture Bella Donna again with this song. It has the same structure and epic proportions. The flow jumps from this place to that place so it's hard to keep a steady tempo. I do think the lyrics are great. My fav is:

"Fire on fire...rain on my face
Fever goes higher...what can you do
Wild in the darkest places of your mind
That's where I needed you
Where I needed you most"

Live? It never would have worked. Lori was right when she said it's an album song, not to be reproduced on stage.

...and I still say "Damn m Wild Heart". :p

I actually don't like this song as much as so many others do. it's OK. It's not a bad song, but I don't think it's anything special really. Maybe I've just listened to it one too many times. I could just be burnt out on it. I just feel that the other songs on WH are better than this one. So I voted right in the middle.

I did, too. Even though I know the real lyrics, sometimes I sing "my" version. It works better for me...hahaha

I never listen to wild heart, and the few times I have, I haven't liked this song much. Could be an instance of "the album hasn't grown on me yet". I hope so, since a lot of you seem to love this song. Honestly, though, It really didn't grab me. I don't like the tune it starts out with. It's too major key, or something. :sorry:

*LOL* I thought it was damn for awhile too..which I like better..haha..
but I do that all the time and usually end up liking my version better
on No questions asked-I thought in "there's an intenseness...in him..in his eyes" I thought it was "in his arms..in his eyes" *L* and Planets of the universe I thought "is at rest with the ocean" was "is impressed with the ocean" haha..IDK...it's stevie..I figured SOMEHOW it woulda made sense..*L*

btw..gave it 5 stars-top ten for me!!

I? Could not have said it better. Wild Heart is glorious - no other words come to mind....except maybe astonishing.

Lyrics are phenomenal but musically it's not a favorite although I do like her delivery and the harmonies. It's the only title track that is not one of my top 2 songs on the album. She has many better songs IMO. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. These lyrics blow my mind. Simply brilliant:

Something in my heart died last night
Just one more chip off an already broken heart
I think the heart broke long ago
That's when I needed you
When I needed you most
I run around like a spirit in flight
Fearlessness is fearlessness

*kisses* for Stevie

Edit: I give my deep red WH tour t-shirt (that says "Don't blame it on me" on the front "Blame it on my wild heart" on the back) five stars.

love it, love it, love it. Stevie's voice is so powerful; so passionate, as are the lyrics. this song reminds me of my friend marvin, who passed away last year ~

'there is a reason...why even the angels...don't give up at all...don't blame it on me...blame it on my wild heart...'

I love this song! It really is an epic type song, with a thumping beat, good lyrics, mesmerizing vocals, and beautiful music. It's the perfect album opener. It's really such an interesting song because it's so pretty, but it still rocks. I give it 5 stars!

Def 5 stars. Epic old school rock song. I can imagine how I use to skip it all the time back in 84. It didnt get a hold of me for a long time. Part of the reason was that I was always so anxious to get to the other songs that I loved right away.

Id program my stereo to play Sable,BatB,NEC and SB, then the rest.

After about a year I was hungry for something new so I forced myself to listen to WH several times in a row and was freakin blown away.

It holds up very well too as do most Stevie songs.

It has the most kick ass vocal of her career I believe.

No one could ever capture that whaling like she does, no one!

I love it. I especially love the harmonies and her delivery.

And at one point I thought it was "damn my wild heart," too, Paula.

I love how this song begins. The lyrics, the vocals. It's a great opening to the record. I like the rest of the song but the intro is the part that I really love. I think the song could be shorter.

Fantastic song. I think this blows Bella Donna (the song) outta the water. The lyrics, the music, the singing are all great. If anything I wish it could be longer, or maybe have Stevie start really letting go earlier in the song. The last minute or so is one of my favourite parts of any Stevie song.

OMG..this song is incredible. Wild Heart and TISL are two of Stevie's best works and are far superior to all of her other opening tracks.
The song Wild Heart has simply stunning vocals and the delivery? Holy Hell. The entire album is a masterpiece.
Nope, I do not think this song is about Kim. I think there is alot about Stevie's life in the post BellaDonna era that we fans are unaware of. The WH album deals with the loss of Robin but also the pain and disillusionment of losing something else. I honestly do not think there was an ounce of intimate love between Kim and Stevie and some of the lyrics in WH, the song, are incredibly personal.
"fire on fire, rain on my face
fever goes higher, what can you do?
Wild in the darkest places of your mind,
That where I needed you, when I needed you most"

These lines are not about Robin and I do not think she felt anything remotely this strongly about Kim. Fire? Fever? Rain? That is some kind of intense passion.
Plus the "blame it on me". The word "blame" really jumps out at me.

Yep, it's "Bella Donna" all over again, but a little wilder, especially with that powerful vocal at the end (easy to agree with others here). My favourite of all of her album openers.

LOVE IT. The lyrics are all amazing, the music is fantastic. I love the way Stevie's voice sounds like it *might* crack during "fire on fire...rain on my face". Its sad and powerful and beautiful and so much else all at the same time.

Can you tell that I love it? LOL.

p.s. I always have and always will sing "damn my wild heart"

I was just glad she wasn't opening an album with the words "phony" and "pony"....But I definately like the song...It's a song that I listen to more than sing along to. There is a message there. And her vocals are great...classic Stevie.
