I've only heard the live version of "Insider" and I fell in love with it instantly. It is my favorite Stevie duet period. I love at the end of the love version when Tom goes "Stevie Nicks" and the crowd goes crazy. Her voice is so vulnerable and there is so much emotion between the two of them. I just love her voice in there! Seriously one of the most beautiful songs ever. I'd like to hear the album version if anyone would like to send it to me please PM.

That song was originally intended for Bella Donna, but after Tom wrote it for her in what he felt was her Stevie-style, he decided to keep it for his album. Then he wrote Stop Draggin My Heart Around and gave it to her.

I love it very much in the live album too. Especially the freakish high note at the end that finishes the song. But I really like how you can tell what point in the song she walks out on stage because the audience explodes with screams after a few seconds during the guitar intro.

I love that song! My favorite duet period. Tom Petty was the second concert I saw back in the 70's. I simply adore him. It is so cool that Stevie loves all the people we love.

The video to this is realy nice, one of my favorites too.. Just stevie and tom singing to each other, very simple, but powerful. And you can see her get visibly chocked up during those beautiful lines in the last verse.

The very first time I heard Insider was somewhere that it was playing in the background - but I heard Stevie's voice, and little snippets of the song - and I became obsessed with finding it. I'd guess this was 1987 or so, when I was really getting into Stevie and FM. I figured it was called Insider or something like that from the lyrics I heard (and repeated to myself over and over) - and I went and looked it up in this huge tome of recordings that was at my local record store. I very nearly imploded when I found it there. I bought it - and it has been one of my all-time favourites ever since. Never fails to give me chills or break my heart. It is an absolutely perfect song - perfect vocals from both of them.
