View Full Version : Songs you hate but others love

I thought I'd start a thread about this because of my eternal hate for Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. IMO, it's her worst duet with Tom Petty, hell, I think it's her worst duet period. I'm not sure where my distaste for this song came from, but I'd rather listen to Welcome to the Room...Sara for 7 hours on repeat than listen to SDMHA once

Well now that my little rant is over, does anyone else have songs that are generally well-liked that they personally can not stand?

Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You

I don't accept it as a concept. Writing songs for people is uncommon, so the thought of some poor person who has no song written about them is not going to bring a tear to my eye.

I don't like that one either :distress: I still don't know what she was thinking, letting Jon Bon Jovi write a song for her.... or maybe what he was thinking when he wrote: "Well I've run through rainbows and castles of candy..."

The killer for me is 'That Made Me Stronger' , not sure how many people like this one, but I guess Stevie is allowed to have a few duds every now and then  but we still love her regardless!

I don't hate this song, but Leather and Lace is not one I love (and it's rare for me not to love something sung by Stevie). I just think the song is beneath her and too juvenile.

Someone here sent me a whole mess of FM/SN/LB videos (you know who you are and thanks again! :D ) and I love, love, love the video for SIAB. I also love the song, but the video sent chills. I am soo ready to talk videos now!

I don't accept it as a concept. Writing songs for people is uncommon, so the thought of some poor person who has no song written about them is not going to bring a tear to my eye.
I don't think she means just "a song", she means "anything", (a poem, a letter, a verse in a card, a sentence, anything, hense the title "Has Anyone Ever Written ANYTHING for You".

And when she say's:
Well, I have
I have given that to you
If it's all I ever do
This is your song

For Stevie, of course, it would be in a song, but I also think the word "song" is a metaphor for anything that is written.

At least that's what I take from it.

WOW - Some surprising stuff in here from you guys!

I don't care for "Outside the Rain", "Greta" and "Dreams" never lasts long on my CD player but when it's live, I like it. I can't think of a duet that I don't like though. I really love all of them.

As for "Sometimes It's a Bitch", hasn't Stevie said that her record company made her do that song or made her accept a song from Bon Jovi? That she really didn't care for it either? I like watching the video though.

I don't really care much for Juliet - or Bruce Hornsby for that matter. The lyrics are great, and many others seem to love this song. But not me.

I also don't like Two Kinds of Love, or nearly anything from TOSOTM. I'm not saying I dislike the whole album, but I really only like three or four songs. The rest are, eh, well, not so great, and far beneath Stevie's capability.

"Straight Back" is my least favorite Stevie song. It is just too melodramatic and over the top for me. It has this opera-like effect that I don't care for. Yet, I love "Beauty and the Beast," which is similar in effect. Go figure?

Songs you hate but others love . thats a very hard question. hum Stevie songs I love them all but FM shows, maybe Worldturning. it gets to long sometimes. and I dont hate the song . shorten it a bit to get some other songs into the set list. but I love Micks drum belt . I think he should come out from the back and use it on other songs too.

Outside the Rain - I just don't "get it", I guess. I don't understand why people go nuts over this song in concert.

Desert Angel - I hate the ending - "Operation Desert Storm!!!!!"

Silver Girl - Fast forward every time. I tried to like it, but failed miserably.

Not so much that I hate these songs I just think she has already done them...
like
Destiny Rules- I prefer Enchanted
Beauty and the Beast-too many strings- I prefer Angel same analogy
Lady of the Mountain- I prefer Sara
Almost all of Trouble in SL and Never even listened to Street Angel or Timepiece or Enchanted cuz she already did those songs on other albulms

Bombay Saphires--Perfer Outside the Rain
Edge of Seventeen and Nighbird are the same (but I like them both actually)
and last, I'm Sorry Hillary but....
Gate and Garden has never been a fav- If you get rid of the whole first verse--maybe

Well a lot of the songs I dislike are disliked by others as well but the one people seem to like that I can't stand is Outside the Rain and the sad part is it will be a staple in her set till she stops touring for good :(. One question. Why? The only part I like is when Dreams starts to come in.

And very well, or so I've been told!

But seriously, I do like Alice, and Rooms, and Ooh My Love.

And the Tango outtake of Juliet is just so much better that what she put on The Other Side of the Mirror. Sometimes, I think Stevie really puts too much thought and effort into her songs. Is she would just record them spur-of-the-moment and leave them that way, many of her tunes would have been much better than they ended up. Too much production on this album....just too much.

Sorry to say this SapphireSister but the picture of Stevie in your signature scare's the crap out of me everytime I scroll down to it. She would dye if she saw that picture :distress:

Ok here goes my Sara rant...first of all I do NOT hate this song, I am just not a devout fan like so many people are. I agree the lyrics are beautiful but the music drags to me. I'll listen to the first 2 minutes and then want to move on to the next song. I think I actually find this song boring more than anything. I think it's great that she brought it back for SYW and the screens in the background with the old images were magnificent. The thing is Storms is a far superior song to me and doesn't get nearly as much attention :(

See I couldn't consider those because TTM and ICW are just so much better on the album than they are live IMO. The best talk to me had to be on the Street Angel Tour but even that wasn't up to par with the album. I Can't Wait live was just a cocane fest. But I love the video! :)

I agreee with Sapphire Sister. The album version just doesn't do justice. As we all know on some of the OSOTM shows she wasn't so hot, but when she was good she was really good. I think my favorite part is the chorus and I love the back up vocals. I have too many love versions to count.

I like:

"Well I Heard she flew down from the Mountain City"
"Each had their own charm, in beneath, a solid piece of armour"
"Alright says Alice Im goin back to the Other side of the Mirror"

and of course

"Like Alice through the Lookingglass she used to Know who she was"

I found it amazing how she compared her life to Alice in wonderland. And that Line is so sad to me.
