Has anyone else noticed how this song sounds like Stevie's. The vocals are raspy and the lyrics have refrences to Greta Garbo... Pretty interesting, don't you think? :wavey:

I'm not saying their voices sound the same. But they are both certainly "weathered" voices.

Rod Stewart on Helium...that's good
Kim Carnes does have that sort of smoked too many butts, drank too many whiskeys, raspy, harsh ,wish I could really sing...voice...quality about it don't cha think??
Reminds me of Lucinda Williams, in a way
Just me but thaks for the Rod chuckle

Lucinda Williams sounds like Kim Carnes - holding her nose! I love Lucinda, in small doses.

Kim Carnes did USA for Africa with Lindsey. If she really sounded like Stevie he might have avoided it at the time. ;)

I rember when they played this song at radios (1980?), they said Kim was the "female Rod Stewart"

I love her in huge doses. She's 4th on my list of favorites behind Stevie, Dolly, and Maria McKee.

The funny thing is that some people actually think Stevie sings Betty Davis Eyes. I went to download it once and it said Stevie Nicks - Betty David Eyes lol!

Hi How about Bonnie Tyler, I notice people claim on P2P mistake of "Total Eclipes of the heart"and "It's a Heartache" and Kim Carnes .Paulette Carlson from country group Highway 101 in the 1990's. I almost died when I herd Paulette on country radio I though she was Stevie. also she looks like her too.

Yeah, but the vocal Lucinda won the Grammy for was divine.
Has anyone heard Gwyneth Paltrow's cover of Bette Davis Eyes? I'm ashamed to admit that I really like it.

That's how I first heard the song and I like Gwen's version better! Who knew she could sing?

I'll never forget when she wore that horrid dress, and went braless, to the Oscars and Joan Rivers said she looked like she had chicken cutlets for breasts.

When Joan hits a good one, she hits it hard. I also love the name Fishstick, which I first read in a Camille Paglia article on Salon.

I was just going to say that if she breeds a little more, she'll have all the ingredients needed for a three course meal. Mama Blythe would be proud, I'm sure of it.

It's not the first time I've heard Kim Carnes compared to Stevie. I don't hear it. To me, she's much closer in voice and style to Bonnie Tyler (think: "It's A Heartache").
BTW, I love Bette Davis Eyes and It's A Heartache (in fact, when I first heard If You Ever Did Believe, I thought it sounded like It's a Heartache, when Stevie says "have you forgotten meee-eee.."). I just don't think either Kim or Bonnie sounds like Stevie.

Yes, it sounds like it could be about her, "she's pure as New York snow". JK Stevie! But the eyes, those eyes! Bette Davis was known for those bedroom eyes which Stevie has.

I don't know. From reading back, just Lindsey. Oh, and it was the "runaway hit" of 1981. :)

I like Kim And Bonnie too.but what ever happen to them,no new music in years from them.I'm not sure about Kim Carnes, but Bonnie Tyler has recorded ten albums since "Total Eclipse Of The Heart."
Here in the States, she had one big hit before "Eclipse" ("It's A Heartache"), one big hit after it ("Holding Out For A Hero"), and then a few very minor charting singles before fading into relative obscurity.
In Europe, however, she's had a lot more success... especially in Germany during the '90s, and recently in France.
She has a great new album ('Wings') out in France right now, which is apparently going to be released in the US this Fall. It will be her first release here since 1995.

I never considered it a hick song, personally. Those lyrics and her delivery are killer, imo.

yeah. I was actually quoting something. Sorry. I actually think I was quoting a Bette Davis autobiography, too, which makes it more obscure. Anyway, yeah, big hit. :)
