My picks:

Best lyrics - Bella Donna

Best vocals - The Wild Heart

Best production - The Wild Heart (though I admire BD, RAL, and TOSOTM for their consistency of sound - I'll get flamed, but I love most of the production on RAL)

Best mood - The Wild Heart (I'll mention that RAL makes me happy, and while I like the individual songs on TOSOTM, taken as a whole album they are a real downer to me)

Best dedication - The Wild Heart - gotta love Robin (and the gypsies - that remain), though I like the Bella Donna one a lot as well

- the best lyrics? TISL's lyrics are amazing!

- the best vocals? Hmmm, I really like the RAL vocals. There is just something so cool about her voice here. Speaking in tongues, smoking a hundred packs a day vocals. I love it!

- the best production? TOSOTM

- the best mood? TOSOTM. It is magical!

- the best dedication(s) TOSOTM "This music is dedicated to Alice... through the looking glass... My Grandmother... the queen of hearts" So silly and magical, I love it!

I love the RAL vocals too. RAL is my second choice, though BD's are great in a more conventional way.

More TOSOTM dedications are still coming up in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Was anybody not thanked for that album in the tourbook? :distress:

Best lyrics - I think I'd have to agree with Bella Donna, that was Stevie just coming on the scene with quite an awesome back-catalogue of stuff.

Best vocals - Another agreement with The Wild Heart, I really loved Stevie's vocals on this one, especially in "Nightbird" and "Stand Back".

Best production - I'd say OSOTM here, though Wild Heart is a close 2nd for me.

Best mood - Rock A Little (I know I'll probably be shot down for this, but I can't listen to RAL without wanting to get up and dance)

Best dedication - I would have to go with OSOTM, I love how Stevie thanks Los Angeles for "its smog" in the liner notes.

Best lyrics - Bella Donna/TISL (apart from That Made Me Stronger)

Best vocals - The Wild Heart

Best production - The Wild Heart (this record is EPIC!)

Best mood - Bella Donna

Best dedication - Bella Donna

WORST production is without doubt TOSOTM. So over-produced, it's like one big ole sickly cake smothered in too much icing. RAL is a case of too many cooks and Street Angel is humdrum - some of those songs needed a bit of oomph and ended up with standard unimaginative arrangements.

Toss up betweeh TWH and RAL, I'll go with TWH this time.
- the best production?
Bella Donna, would be TWH but some of the synth lines feel out of place.
- the best mood?
RAL, love its slightly schizophrenic nature.
- the best dedication(s)
TWH.

- the best lyrics? I'll give this one to Bella Donna.

- the best vocals? Wild Heart, for sure.

- the best production? Either Bella Donna or Wild Heart. Jimmy is a genius.

- the best mood? Rock A Little...'cause it's dark, a bit sinister, and feels like a thunderstorm from start to finish.

- the best dedication(s) I like the dedication from The Wild Heart, but I like the 'special thanks' from The Other Side of the Mirror the best.

- the best lyrics? Bella Donna

- the best vocals? The Wild Heart

- the best production? None of them. This has always been Stevie's weakness as a solo artist. Jimmy Iovine is too spare/bar band. Rock A Little was a hodge-podge mess. While TOSOTM is a great album, Rupert Hines' production was the glaring weak point. You can't polish a turd on Street Angel. TISL was also a hodge-podge disconnect when it comes to the production.

The only person who has ever been able to successfully produce Stevie is Lindsey Buckingham. I think he should produce her next solo album  .

- the best mood? TOSOTM gets my vote.

- the best dedication(s) "To L.A.- for its electricity, and its smog..." Only Stevie Nicks could write a liner note dedication to smog. I'm surprised she didn't do "To Tampax- for their snug fit, extra capacity and for making sure I was secure while horseback riding in the 'Stand Back' Civil War video." for The Wild Heart liner notes.

Not even... Smog in LA was really bad in the 70's- now it's better, though still bad. The sunsets are gorgeous when there isn't any smog- especially after a rainstorm.

I think TOSOTM is too polished. But I think Rupert went for a sound - that reviewer called it a sort of indescribable keybyboard support - and he got it. I'm just not nuts for the sound, but it's consistent from a production standpoint, IMO.
TISL sounds like it has more cooks than RAL.

Wow, other than her voice, I just don't hear dark or stormy. I think the poppy, light music combined with the gruff voice are a great mix that give a happy effect. I find TWH and TOSOTM much darker.

I think the production on SA sucks, and I'm no fan of Rupert's either, but I'll add that I did not care for the production of Stevie's SYW songs. I'd much prefer Jimmy to Lindsey for her next solo album. I could live with Rick doing it as well.

Aside from I Can't Wait and Talk to Me...If I Were You, Some Become Strangers, No Spoken Word, Sister Honey...they're some of my all time favorite Stevie songs (I would love to hear her sing Some Become Strangers now  ) I just love that song even though she didn't write it..."I don't really need this in my life...why don't we forget about it?"

Really? I think HAEWAFY is better than ISFTT, but I still don't love either of them. I thought everybody else loves HAEWAFY. A friend sang it in my hs talent show. On the album I hate that the keyboard new age thing at the end goes on for so long. Back in the days of cassettes when you'd be waiting for the tape to flip, that drove me crazy.

I think I like the lyrics in ISFTT more so than the vocals -- they sound a little raspy at times -- like she's struggling to breathe. I loved HAEWAFY in 98' at A Day In The Garden and that was it. I think the reason why I was so touched was because she was an absolute emotional wreck bawling her eyes out. It was an incredibly sweet moment that i'll never forget. You and those keyboards....

HAEWAFY is a beautiful song but it's never been a favorite of mine. I do appriciate the beautiful piano and lyrics and story behind it though. I've always far preferred BATB over HAEWAFY. I'd love to take a poll and see who wins BATB vs HAEWAFY.
