A few months ago, I found this website (http://myreligion.scientology.org/mikemanoogian/) belonging to Mike Manoogian who designed the logos for Bella Donna and The Wild Heart. I sent him an e-mail saying how much I liked his work and asking him some questions. I asked him how he got the job as logo designer, whether she gave him an indication of what she wanted or whether he had free reign, and whether he had any favorite logos done for different artists. I thought he was not going to answer but today he sent me a brief e-mail that you might find interesting.
Dear Richard,

Thanks for your nice email re Stevie Nicks. I never met with her, actually. Regrets. Her photographer got in touch with me-- Herb Worthington--and I did the logos through him. I did have free reign. There are almost a million other logos I've done-- Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, We Are the World/USA for Africa, Hands Across America, Lionel Richie, Gallagher, some Super Bowls.

The best way to be in touch with me is through regular mail: 7457 Beck Ave North Hollywood, CA 91605.

I could send you some samples of other work, etc.

Best, Mike

Isn't that neet when you take a shot in the dark and get a random response? One time, I said I am just gonna write to like 20 addies I had from various old magazines or tourbooks, and see what happens. I got not ONE response, but I got a lot of returned mail. This reminds me getting the nerve to call Margi Kent, and she got RIGHT ON THE PHONE! Was weird. Long story though.
Send away for stuff. Ask if he could send you some of the SN proofs.

After Stevie did that pictorial/Interview in Interview magazine (w/Kidman on the cover, TISL era) it showed Margi's phone # inside. I said I'm gonna call her! I was at my job, and I was telling people I was thinking about it, and they are like hell yea, go for it. So I'm like nothing is gonna happen right?

I go to call her, and I ask for Margi. Some woman says "May I ask who's speaking." I say Anita. She says ok, hold on a minute. (WTF??? OMG, this woman is getting Margi to the phone. Not like it's a big deal, but I dunno, Inever thought she'd get right on the phone!!!!!) A woman gets on and says "this is Margi, can I help you." Trying to keep my cool, although my heart is racing a mile a minute, I say to her that I was a big fan of her designs, and really an ardent fan of Stevie Nicks. I told her I would be coming to the LA area, and was there anyway I could meet her. I ask if I could come by the (what I assumed she'd have) boutique. Margi says that it isn't that kind of place, that the building she works out of, she is there only by appointment, when she has stuff to work on. She then asks if I am a designer. I say that no I am not, but that my best friend is a costumer (I'll brag and live vicariously thru my pal, she is a costumer and a great one at that, and did the costumes for the film "A Mighty Wind") and that that was who I was coming to visit. That she too would be most intersted in meeting Margi. (Sort of true. My friend Jaimie is a Stevie fan cause she loves me. lol, but does dig Stevie's style!) She said that was very nice, but she would be busy. Margi then proceeds to tell me that Stevie will be doing some PR work that week, and that Margi would be fitting her during the time I would be in LA. (IMO, I swear that was an outright time/date & place to be, but I played it cool like I hear that kind of 411 all the time. lol) I proceeded to tell Margi of her accomplishments, and hear Margi's voice change, and she then tells me, "wow, you did your homework." I tell her that I'm not going to lie, I am a HUGE SN fan, but that w/out Margi's vision, stylewise, I don't see how Stevie could have the sort of icon status that she does. (I'd say the same to HWW, come on people, am I lying? W/out those amazing clothes, and visuals that HWW has taken and captured, would we still be as smitten? Yea, it's about the music, but the image doesn't hurt either!) Again she said that I was very nice, and that really she would love to meet a loyal fan (I think she made mention of "loyalty", or "you are a loyal fan" remark twice) but that she was just so busy. She appreciated my call, and said not to hesitate to call again. I told her that maybe after the TISL tour and promotion slows down, that perhaps I would try again. She said that would be fine. Ofcourse I never did. Each time I am going to be in LA, it's cause FM or SN is in full swing, so Stevie prolly keeps her busy.

All in all I would say that Margi is one of the nicest people I've never met. LOL. Not once did her tone of voice sound like "red alert folks, we have a fruitcake on the line" nor did she same fake or weary of my taking her time. Some where on a disc, I have a detailed transcription that I pecked out after the call in a flurry, cause I was flatly just so amazed she came to the phone. She was very considerate and seemed really interested in my friend, being a designer and all. I would love to meet her one day. I'd really love to have enough moola to have a Margi Kent original something. Until then, my seamstress costumer friend keeps me in HER originals. ;)

That's my story.

That was really great.. Thanks! That took some nerve I have to say... But hey... you're harmless... and it's on the phone... but I know what you mean, most people assume out of the blue compliments like that must be coming from some wacko...

And I'm sure she told Stevie about it too..

You think she may have told Stevie about it? I don't know. (Just the thought re-hypes me up about the moment) I was really trying to let her know that I liked her work. I never want someone associated w/ a big name person to feel like they are the middle man, or being used or hyped to get me somewhere closer to them. If I happened to come by Margi's studio that week (and btw, that part of the story, untold. We were in Huntington Beach, not really next door to LA and just never made it there....STUPID, STUPID!) and Stevie had been there, and Margi opened the door to welcome me, well then, ofcourse it would have been all about Stevie, but I would have cornered Magi, nad been like "Take me to all your sequins and lace!"

BTW vermicious knid, I didn't mean to steal your thread :distress:
